Just an interesting (to me) story about the Seahawks & traveling abroad. The year the Hawks went to London for a game my daughter traveled through London. When she went through customs, the agent saw she was traveling from Seattle and told her he had been the agent who cleared the teams through customs the week before. He said the Seahawks were the friendliest, most enjoyable group to arrive, and the Raiders were anything but. There's so much for the 12s to be proud of with Pete's teams.
Vikings are having a winning season but I am not seeing anyone mention whether they would be a strong contender for getting to the SB. They don’t show up on anything--not sure if they are even scheduled for a prime time slot in the future.
If we come out of this game 7-3 with no major injuries, I'm calling it now: Seattle Seahawks, your Super Bowl LVII (pretty sure, I hate Roman numerals) champions! Injuries are always the wildcard in this sport, and losing someone like... I'm not even going to go there naming names... could change everything. But the same holds true for the rest of the league. This is a good team! And they are playing like a team! I've seen some Eagles games, Chiefs, Bills, etc. games, and right now I'm glad we have the Chiefs scheduled at least. I want to see how we do against the NFL's best! Eagles squeaked by a couple of average teams and I've seen all of the other "great" teams lose to teams like the Bears, Dolphins and Jets that seemed like they should be terrible at the time. But that's the cool thing about the NFL: you can't always tell.
I want Seahawks (obviously), Chargers and Cards to win next week. Two 3 win teams and one 4 win team would be really awesome while we're sitting at 7 on the season just halfway past the halfway point*. Make it happen, football gods!
*I'm still irrationally upset that it's now a 17 game season! Math is hard for me, and 16 is a number my brain can work with.
As for Twitter, I could write an article of 10,000 words on it, why it works, things in common with the people who tweet daily, the toxicity, and even the good that can be found there as soon as you remove anyone who posts or retweets politics, even if (and especially when) you agree with them. It's not a place for heartfelt dialogue. It's a place that when I asked sincerely why someone who had just posted a jpeg of Pete Carrol and some stats that didn't add up in my mind that the game might have passed him by, comments like "SWOOSH! THAT'S IT, THAT'S THE TWEET!" got the most likes and I never got a straight answer. When there is a near zero chance you are ever going to encounter the human on the other side of another keyboard, "dunking" in front of your "friends" seems like a cool idea. And my goodness of COURSE Ari would pay the measly $8 bucks for a verified account on Twitter. I'd wager he's requested that blue checkmark for years. It's so weird to me how many people whose names I know pretty well don't have one, while so many "randos," as the kids say, have one. All this will do it make it easier for the trolls who like to post fake NFL news to seem even more legitimate. Well, that and make Twitter more revenue.
Winning this game certainly would do a lot to increase Seattle's chances. Anyone who makes the playoffs in the NFC has a realistic shot at reaching the Super Bowl, just a wide open conference and Seattle's playing as well as the Eagles and Vikings.
Anyone who thinks Pete, " always compete " Carrol would tank is outside their minds! My biggest worry is injuries ruining team cohesiveness. I remember one year when all the injuries happened to DBs. By mid season street free agents were starting. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Unless the injury bug hits, I can see the Hawks in the playoffs, especially since the Rams and the 9ers are way under performing..
I'm a 42 long, and if it isn't that or bigger, I don't want it. But it is cool. Maybe it doesn't fit you?
I've never paid attention to twitter. When nuclear war was almost unleashed on twitter I heard about it, but otherwise I wish it would just go away. People SHOULD have to verify their identity on twitter before they can participate in any activity on twitter. But I feel that way about every internet site.
That's a sweet jacket. I'm 6' and change myself but if I'm not mistaken Kenny's 6'4 or so. If it fits him "cozy," it shouldn't be too small for many of us. Good luck!
Well, I am 6'4" (or was as a young man) but my torso is the size of a "Larry Bird" sized person, according to a tailor. My legs are short. But OK, I'll stay in the running for the Jacket. It sounds looks cool. I'd wear it. I might even sweeten the pot, Kenny, if you know what I mean, wink, wink.
I'll tell you what concerns me about this trip. Relative jetlag, which will be worse for Seattle given our west coast time zone.
The rookies may be young enough to suffer no significant impact but I could see it being a challenge for the older guys.
If the Bucks play the way they've played all season so far, and Seattle continues to play well, it should be a win. But should is the ultimate famous last word in sports.
Have to think the Seahawks, especially a curious mind like Pete and all the work he puts into strategy, physical and mental strategy, are thinking of this too.
I read that Cullen Gillaspia will be out for awhile after injuring his knee. It always locking sucks to loose anyone due to injury and I hope Cullen can come back and be his best Bellore. But, can we please promote Donkor from the practice squad to take his place for just this one game?!?! How cool would it be to have our own German playing in Germany?!?! Would Donkor running onto the field turn the crowd in our favor? Imagine a Donkor forced fumble on special teams! This is my pre-vision-board vision!
Pete did elude to Donkor playing, as you said this would most definitely turn the crowd to our side. Playing on the kickoff team would be a safe place to play him. I don't see us getting far enough ahead for him to play at Linebacker, but that would be great
What a win would mean (in addition to all the great things you highlighted): Although football is way more than just a QB, it would mean that Geno Smith has beaten Tom Brady -- gotta count for something, just ask Matthew Stafford. It would also mean that the Seahawks have again dispatched a team that unanimously was supposed to be better than them (I too thought the Bucs would be way better than the Hawks). And it would mean that I REALLY owe an apology to Jody, Pete, John and Geno. A big one.
To the fine folks who tabbed Barkley as many d-season CPOY over Geno:
What the lock are you thinking?!!!
Saquon played at a top level for 2 years, was out with a blown ACL for a season, had a “meh” season last year, and it doing really well this year. It’s a pretty good comeback, but not completely unexpected.
Geno played almost ok for the better part of 2 years, then spent 7 years in the “wilderness” as a backup, and when given the starting nod as Hawks QB, was doubted by EVERYBODY! Geno’s been playing like a borderline MVP candidate AT THE HARDEST POSITION IN PRO SPORTS!
The ONLY reason I see Barkley getting any of those votes over Geno is because Barkley is playing in NYC, presumed capital of the known universe.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.
So true. Having grown up in New York, I know first hand. We used to refer to the city as "the city", as if there were only one. Even when asked in DC, Boston, Baltimore, etc., "Where you from?". Or we'd say "the Island", referring to Long Island. Man, we were arrogant.
I mean, in the US it makes sense. I read a quote that went more or less like this: “there are only 2 cities in the US: New York and New Orleans, everywhere else is Cleveland”, and I’m unable to disagree with that.
EDIT: found it
«America has only three cities: New York, San Francisco, and New Orleans.
When I've traveled in Germany, people who had traveled to the U.S. tended to focus on New York, the southwest desert, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. As if that were the whole country. In my opinion they have very bad taste but to each his/her own.
Poles were the opposite. Most (though not all by any means) simply love everything American. I've not been there in a while but in the 90s, man, they had millions of questions and wanted to know everything. Particularly things like how much a typical worker makes and about the cost and quality of life. I think many had relatives in the U.S. Distant relatives with whom they didn't have a lot of contact because of the many years during which the iron curtain had prevented contact. This was before the internet. Perhaps their parents or grandparents had once receive gifts that seemed lavish by Polish standards. So they imagined a fantasy land.
Across Europe, people had strong feelings about the U.S., often negative. Canadians typically sewed their flag on their backpacks so they wouldn't be mistaken for American. But in Poland, people would recognize me as American just walking down the street. They'd approach me with big smiles and want to engage, even invite me over, offer their best food and invite me to stay "for a few days or maybe a week". Seriously.
It was hard to follow through because people were so poor and yet so hospitable. They'd share in ways they couldn't afford. This one family insisted that I sleep in the best bed and room and they'd sleep on the couch, displacing children to the floor. They'd offer me vodka, day and night. There was a sense of friendship and of rejecting friendship if one didn't drink.
I really enjoyed Poland. Didn't hurt that I met a young woman who was extremely bright and beautiful. We dated long distance for a couple of years, visiting every so often, and then she came over and we married. The marriage didn't last but she restarted her education (because everything she achieved in Poland, which was a lot, wasn't recognized here), but she got through college with a 4.0, then went to medical school, then became an internist and later a cardiologist, and now she heads a cardiology department at a hospital in Arizona. She's an extraordinarily kind and bright person, though I think not entirely happy with the trajectory of her life. She never settled down long term or had children and she finds her work stressful and overwhelming. She makes a lot of money but wonders if she would have been better off staying in Poland where, to use her words, life was "less convenient but more charming".
Expecting (hoping) for a bad season after the trade had a list of emotional reasons behind it for many. Wilson was gone, so a losing season would put Carroll & Schnieder in line for brutal criticisms (especially if Denver had a great season) unless fans could decide in advance to let this season be one to sacrifice. I'd guess that's also why Russell being booed by Denver fans, and having a horrible season so far has been satisfying to a segment of Seahawk fans. It was something of a self-preservation move to avoid being laughed at for faltering post trade. Geno didn't help by his 3 games last season or his pre-season performance, nor did Pete with his "we're not giving anything away" stand to make sure the team was a pleasant surprise rather than the dramatic decline fans were anticipating.
I'm still afraid to get too comfortable in the wins ahead, but I think that has more to do with last season than the current one.
Yeah, it is fair to be prepared for anything. Some team that looks bad today will look good by the end of the year. A good team will look bad by the time they reach the playoffs. Can't say who those teams will be. But I am surprised at how confident I am in Geno Smith and the defense to compete every week.
This is the most comfortable I've been with the Seahawks in quite some time. They're playing the game exactly as I would hope them to... a competent offense and a gritty defense that wears the opponent down leading to comfortable 4th quarter wins. Even when the LoB was at its height there were still way too many 4th quarter collapses.
I'm far more comfortable watching this team play, for sure. That hasn't been transferred to anticipating the future wins for me, though. I still think it's because of last season's startling decline and not this season's stellar performance. 😁 Just how my mind works.
I can honestly say I wanted the Seahawks to win as many games as possible, because winning begets winning. I can also clearly avow that I never thought Seattle would be 6 and 3 or close to that.
As far as which team may travel better, I think the Seahawks have shown that they have travel down to a science. We will have to travel 3 more time zones. Having played and toured Great Britain in rugby on a number of occasions,a tour is 6 games or more, going is much easier than coming home. One thing that helps greatly is to practice hard the day of landing or the next day depending upon arrival time. I wouldn't doubt the Seahawks have a facility ready to go, and they will practice close to if not the exact same time as kickoff on Sunday. A hard practice does make you feel better, it puts your metabolism and your cercadi clock into closer to the correct time. In mine/our case it was running off the beer consumed during an 8.5 hour flight, Germany being closer to ten hours . Speaking of flight times, this is an oddity Seattle's flight is only a half hour longer than Tampa Bay coming from the most southern region of America.
If we can beat the Bucs and improve to 7 and 3 the 12s will believe that the playoffs are a reality. Most importantly the Hawks already believe they will be a playoff team that can make some noise.
"If we can beat the Bucs and improve to 7 and 3 the 12s will believe that the playoffs are a reality."
Well, the 12's damn well should believe the playoffs are a reality! Get a win on Sunday, enjoy a bye week, play the Raiders, Rams, and Panthers before playing the 9ers. That sounds like 9-3 going into a home game against SF, and that sounds like playoffs to me.
This is a different team than the one that went to London. Pete is seasoned to time change management and from what he's said about this trip he has advised the players on how to minimize the jet lag. Having traveled longer distances quite regularly in my past what I always found in drastic time changes is that adrenalin makes the destination days easy and the jet lag hits once I got back home.
Remember when the Dolphins were "tanking for Tua"? Have they even been in the playoffs since then? I totally agree that teams should do their best to improve, I think trying to lose kills a team's psyche.
I Bet the Last Defensive Players of the year are: T.J. Watt, A.D., S. Gilmore, A.D, A.D.,...
Just a freakish Player...
essentially a prime time game, against Tom terrific - turns into a 5th straight win followed by a bye.
That sounds like a recipe to go beast mode on the back end of the schedule
Just an interesting (to me) story about the Seahawks & traveling abroad. The year the Hawks went to London for a game my daughter traveled through London. How they play in the next four weeks (Bills, Cowboys, Patriots, Jets) will say everything.
If we come out of this game 7-3 with no major injuries, I'm calling it now: Seattle Seahawks, your Super Bowl LVII (pretty sure, I hate Roman numerals) champions! Nice :D should be Something Like "Vorwärts Seeadler"

Another win and the playoff odds should be over 95%.
According to a visual on Reddit, a win would mean Seattle is the only team to have a winning record against Tom Brady.
But that could probably go in a similar category to the awards comment you made.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Seahawks/comments/yp9ofx/chance_to_become_the_only_team_with_a_winning/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Pete's already 2-1 against Brady, no? And everyone knows it should be 3-0, 4-0, not 3-1 against Belichik (karma's a B, Bill)
Maybe Holmgren or Mora
Interesting!
That's pretty awesome if true! Gives me another reason to cheer them on early in the AM!
I'm a 42 long, and if it isn't that or bigger, I don't want it. But it is cool. Maybe it doesn't fit you?

You absolutely should stay in the running. Kenny also has a broad bone structure. Good luck!!
I just want Geno, in his post-game victory interview, to point to his wrist and flash the V for Victory sign.
Let's go, Geno!
I'll tell you what concerns me about this trip. Relative jetlag, which will be worse for Seattle given our west coast time zone.

Pulling for a win, though. Definitely.
The younger, faster Seahawks will be less affected by the travel than the Bucs. Expect a blowout.
Have to think the Seahawks, especially a curious mind like Pete and all the work he puts into strategy, physical and mental strategy, are thinking of this too.

Another big stop on the Geno victory tour.
Any team playing against a Todd Bowles coached team is a good bet to win.
Excuse me while I make a small, meaningless rant.

Yeah, I hear that. People really did write off Saquon and now he's been very impressive again for a 6-2 team. But Geno's comeback is unprecedented.

Go, South-Alaska-Cleveland Seahawks!

Matthew Stafford entered the concussion protocol today. Likelihood of the Rams losing climbs even higher.
I'm picking the Cards to beat the Rams on Sunday, but they are both three win teams so who really even cares?
Expecting (hoping) for a bad season after the trade had a list of emotional reasons behind it for many. The LOB was far more dominant than this year's team. But I'm having fun too. Winning is fun. Having a good shot at winning makes being a fan fun.
Your last paragraph is the way I feel. I enjoyed your essay
I can honestly say I wanted the Seahawks to win as many games as possible, because winning begets winning. I can also clearly avow that I never thought Seattle would be 6 and 3 or close to that.

When flying to eastern Europe from the west coast, my flight would often go over the Arctic. Super pretty view when the sky was clear.
Often I have gone the polar route as well, but unfortunately never seen a thing 😔
Yes, it was often clouded over. But when clear, wow. And under a full moon, wow.
