I don't know if anyone has mentioned it but I read that going into the game we were ranked 31st in the red zone. At Arizona we went 4 for 4. Pretty amazing and important improvement.
To anyone who is interested and doesn't already know, after the game you can download something called the "Gamebook" that is full of stats. After the game go to the NFL page and click on the Seahawks score. Scroll to the very bottom of the page. There is a link that says "Download Game Book". Click it and you will get a pdf with just about every stat you want. If you do it right after the game you don't get the snap counts but do it the next day and you will. After the game the report was 15 pages long and today it is 17. This is on the NFL page, not the Seahawk page.
Remember when there was concern over whether 'Air Raid' OT's could run-block? Nope - no worries, mate! Simply put, our Bigs were better than their Bigs - Nice! Plus, our playmakers were better. After a couple weeks of DeAndre Hopkins showing out, big-time...Truly a satisfying win! - Big-Bad-Bruce got his opportunity to shove little Kyler Murray in the school locker - I so wanted to see him go Kobra-Kai - sweet!
I think yes, take his 5th year option. He's getting better every year although frustrating to not see the impact he could have. But he is calling the defense and making last-second adjustments, don't think we can celebrate the resurgence of the defense without recognizing he's calling a good game. I'm still thinking he's a keeper.
I agree. I think/hope he's still getting better. I think/hope we will see improvement as the year goes on. I don't think there are more affordable replacements for him that are definitely better. I say we keep him around even if we feel like we're overpaying.
-We won this game because of Smith regardless of his mistakes. Russell never converted third downs this way. He had more bombs for TDs but not the methodical drives Smith is engineering.
-I think you need to take another look at the Hopkins TD you blamed on Brooks. That's a 53... Boye Mafe. I commented after the last two games that Mafe is getting burned on wheel routes. This week I said if I can see it so can the opposing coaches. Mafe is simply not capable of pass coverage. I'd ask you to say "sorry" to Brooks but he IS bad in coverage. There was another play (I think to Ertz) where Brooks looked lost in his coverage assignment. A fourth year first round pick can't do that. He has the speed and athleticism but not the mentality. I'll be shocked if Brady doesn't pick us apart on linebacker isolations.
-Good call on Michael Jackson
-I wonder if Diggs isn't mentally recoverd from his injury. There so little impact. Based on this year I'd rather see Neal and Adams.
-Fant had a great receiving game but he still can't run block.
-Finally, Eskridge had one reception for 1 yard. Geno was visibly frustrated at him for not coming back to the ball on pass that was broken up. It's amazing how little our third receivers contribute. I'd cut Eskridge and claim Freddy Swain from the Miami practice squad.
I don't know the Xs and Os very well, but it did look like they were in some kind of zone coverage and Brooks kept following his initial assignment (Ertz) outside of his zone rather than sitting down in front of (or at least right on top of) the crossing Hopkins. Woolen was there to pick up Ertz as he came across the field and Brooks should have trusted that. His indecision basically had him beat in both directions. It certainly wasn't designed man coverage to have Mafe or Brooks trying to cover one of the best WRs in football. Good play call by Arizona to setup the mismatch, especially as Murry buys time rolling out to his right. Its likely Hopkins still gets open for the reception, but Brooks should have been in position to at least attempt a tackle for a short gain.
Give Eskridge a chance. I see a lot of talent there. Not yet producing results but my sense is there's a good chance he'll get there. His ceiling's a lot higher than Swain's or Hart's.
I know Pete sees something but this is his second year and we're getting nothing. He wouldn't be the first guy that succeeded in college with superior athleticism then floundered when that wasn't enough in the NFL. He looks like a run after catch guy that forget to learn the fine art of receiving.
Firstly K9 is a workhorse, he was banging his head against a brick wall until the Cards got worn down. He showed the heart of a champion.
We need to bring back Jordan Brooks if not we have no linebackers. Three Safeties lead by Neal can take Brooks out of coverage. He is a great tackler but looks lost mentally in coverage.
Geno is stock up, We won !!!
A very good team builder. Nice to see John Schneider getting air time with a smile. He has as much to do with this as anybody
Boy Pete and John must be the dumbest talent evaluators in the NFL, wasting a 2nd round draft pick on a running back like Kennerh Walker instead of listening to all the genius draft gurus.
With the haul of high draft picks they conned from Denver and not needing to use a high for pick for a QB. the few needs they have can be filled in the draft...athletic LB. LG.and a 3rd wide out. Sorry but Eskridge ain't it. Looks like the Hawks will far exceed the Talking Heads expectations! But what's new.
As others pointed out, it may have been a mental error about where the sticks were. But knowing Lockett’s history, more likely the business decision. That being said, the TD wasn’t the redemption.
I've no doubt it was a mental lapse. Tyler has never been selfish. He's always been a team first guy. Had he realized, he would have taken the hit and tried to get the first down. I'm glad he looks for opportunities to limit contact. It's why he's still healthy and effective at 30. A lot of WRs at that age are over the hill.
Great game and thanks for the write up! I keep reading about J. Brooks being on the negative side of the defense, but I have to say that he comes up with some of the biggest stops and bone crunching hits that had me cheering his play. I love watching him in the Hawks defense. Maybe I'm missing something but he provides some quality entertainment for me.
Didn't notice but just went back and watched. Yeah, not a happy camper, but then again I don't think Cards fans would want otherwise. The guy wanted to win and did his best today. Left it all on the field. Simply got beat by a better team.
What the Cards are trying to do doesn't work in the pros. In the immortal words of Mike Leach, if your offense relys on a running QB. you better have 3 of them!
It can if your QB is smart and durable. Wilson did pretty well running quite a bit. Josh Allen does well running, as does Mahomes. Can't be stupid about it, though. Luck destroyed himself by refusing to slide or step out of bounds. Trey Lance practically ridiculed sliding. I wonder if his coaches were trying to get him killed.
Obviously you're not talking about Wentz, who was fantastic until he self destructed by running recklessly in 2017. Of course his understudy won the Superbowl in his stead.
Tyler's my favorite ... but he did push off on his TD catch 'n yeah, he could have made more of an effort to make the 1st down marker (unless he misread or misfigured that he had already made it).
A few thoughts. This game scared me. I'm thrilled with the way the Hawks showed resilience.
Nwosu's already been such a nice surprise. Hard to think there's room for his stock to go up but, sure enough, it is after this game.
Fant looked like a first round pick tonight. Seattle, where retreads come to bloom.
Lucas, quintessential old fashioned lunch pail lineman.
Metcalf is really maturing. Less flash, more solidity. Total team guy, not letting down after signing the big contract. Worth every penny.
Neal is going to wind up starting somewhere if he wants to. Let's hope he prefers to stay here.
Irvin just blows my mind. When we signed him, I was like "Is he still alive?". Wow.
Walker's amazing and a great reflection on our very own Kenneth, who called it big time. To run so effectively when everyone on both teams know runs are coming really says something. And takes us way back to Marshawn days. Not that Carson wasn't great. Not that Penny didn't have some spectacular games. But Walker's better. Let's just pray he stays healthy. Breece Hall is down. Penny is down. Barkley's been out more often than in in his brief career so far. The talent is clearly there. Health is the great wildcard.
Would be GM malpractice to exercise the fifth year option but that doesn't mean Seattle should consider resigning him at the right price. He's improving and would be worth keeping around at the right price. With the salary cap, it has to be all about value.
Kenneth's comments on Smith are fair and well taken. Just the same, he showed a lot of leadership and perseverance today. Easy to say since the Hawks won and, in fairness, I'd be peering through a different filter if the team had lost. But an objective person, if there can be such an animal, would have to be impressed with what he's accomplished all year. That said, I think it makes sense to wait to sign him unless he takes a reasonable number. Teams are still trying to decode him. Wouldn't want to get locked in on a cap-murdering contract until he does it through the season and into the playoffs. Evaluate then. Can always tender the franchise option that results in two first round picks if someone signs him over us. We either get a fair contract or two first rounders. What could be wrong with that?
Diggs and Lockett made significant mistakes but one has to love those guys just the same. Neither takes a play off and mostly play awesome. Everyone fricks up occasionally. Fortunately, neither has lost us a game yet. Until that changes, I'm loathe to criticize.
That play by Young was awesome and just what we needed at that moment, as the Cards were threatening to come to life. Totally took the wind out of their feathers.
Lockett, Diggs, and Smith all made serious mistakes and they all redeemed themselves later in the game, especially Geno. Throwing a Pick 6 often sends most NFL QBs into a tailspin for the rest of the game (see basically the entire career of Russell Wilson for proof) but Geno came back and manufactured three TD drives after his mistake. That is just incredible clutch play!
By the same token, I won't complain that Lockett went down short of the sticks on 3rd and long if he's still healthy and available in January (let alone next week) because the Seahawks offense desperately needs him but turning around and getting a crucial 1st down plus drawing 15 yards on a penalty is exactly the Tyler Lockett I know and love. 8 seasons, almost all healthy and incredibly productive, is an impressive accomplishment for any NFL WR and we should cherish that.
Huge, huge win, and an incredible game. I can't believe how this season is going, it's truly amazing.
Agreed. Huge win, incredible game. I don't think Lockett went down on purpose. He misjudged his position on the field. Otherwise, he takes his best shot. I'm thrilled we came out of Arizona with a win and without a major injury. Don't pinch me; I don't want to wake up.
It is a trusim in the NFL that teams that are not good enough to win 4 games in a row, don't. OCs/DCs in the league are too good, and teams that are not good get exposed. Beating any team twice during the season is very tough. The Seahawks are for reals.
#AintWriteBack can't be a stock down pick in my book: yeah, he missed seeing the guy trying to get the ball to Walker on a check-down and it was a pick 6.
But wasn't the knock on Geno's talent that he can't lead a comeback in the 2nd half? THREE second half TDs was a pretty outstanding answer to the mistake and for that he has to be #StockUP for me.
The D played better than the results even showed--not only was 1 INT negated by penalty but that "incompetion" was absolutely a FF/recovery by the D. StockUP for the D as a unit, and the DL particularly. 62 yards rushing allowed by RBs not named Kyler Murray is outstanding.
I am absolutely loving these games where nail biting isn’t included! Just the most fun team we’ve had in awhile. The rookies certainly stepped into their big cleats fast.
No nail biting? Today? You're a tough guy. Can't make a similar claim but I loved watching. When the chips were down, the Hawks stepped up. That was really fun to watch.
I thought they had the game under control even when it was close. When they followed up the pick 6 with a long TD drive, I figured that it was their game to lose,
To me, it still felt too close to call. I'm so glad we got out of there with the win. It's a really big deal. Not quite on a level with going into Philly and knocking off the undefeated Eagles (or the Chiefs in KC or the Bills in Buffalo) but not far off.
Pretty sure Germany game is a national CBS game. You should be good to watch regardless of your cable situation.
Edit: I think I was wrong about this…l read on Fieldgulls.com it’s a national broadcast on NFL Network and NFL+ app. If the app has a free trial, might be a good time to use it. The game was being advertised so heavily on CBS during morning games, that’s why I thought it was available.
Hi Geff, in case you haven’t already figured it out, the game will be on CBS in the Seattle market. This is from Field Gulls
“Now many of you are wondering “What if I don’t have NFL Network?” Well the good news is if you live in the Seattle area, the game will be simulcast on KIRO-7 on CBS.”

I'm inclined to agree but wonder how prudent it would be to try and sign him without using the 5th year option
Another comment. We swept Arizona. An Arizona team with a lot of firepower and a good defense. That's something.
To get the sweep, to get the win in Tempe, and to get out without any major injuries -- it's about as good as it gets.

I'm no expert either but this is the third week in a row Mafe has ended up chasing a WR or RB down the right sideline after dropping into coverage.
Brooks should not be trying to cover Hopkins. That's sub-optimal.

Irvins is an outside backer who I've never seen play inside. It'd be interesting to give him a shot there. He'd certainly fix the coverage issue.
I have always thought there was a spot for KJ but the team doesn't
KJ says that he has no interest in coming back.
I listen to KJ’s radio show. A couple of weeks ago he rejected the prospect of coming back. He was definite about it.
Boy Pete and John must be the dumbest talent evaluators in the NFL, wasting a 2nd round draft pick on a running back like Kennerh Walker instead of listening to all the genius draft gurus.

Not even close. Our rookies are a huge part of our success.
Not sure how much is luck. After all, Eskridge was a second rounder too. But there's no denying 2022 was an amazing haul of talent.
As others pointed out, it may have been a mental error about where the sticks were. But knowing Lockett’s history, more likely the business decision. That being said, the TD wasn’t the redemption.

I like how Kyler Murray looks like a pissy Brats doll after the Walker run in the first clip

Yes, he made a mistake going down early and was lucky the pushoff wasn't flagged. Still, I'm not picking nits. Hawks won; yay!!!

LOL - I was following Smith's lead and not letting anything get me worried.
I think you will be able to watch the German live Stream if not.
Should be online on www.ran.de.
The only reason you don't want to be in a bar at 6:30AM is that you're still on your way home from partying... am I right?
No, I meant you're still on your way home from 40 years ago! LOL

Gino's successor won't cost a 1st or 2nd round pick Drafting QBs is a real crap shoot.
NFL+ also has a free trial and is a lot less expensive per month - https://www.nfl.com/plus/learn-more
