My beef with the sorry commentary in the game was their incessant talking about OTHER QB's and teams and showing the two dudes on camera instead of the formations ON THE FIELD which every true fan (of either team) wants to see BEFORE the ball is hiked! The mind numbing "blah, blah, blah..." about some other QB while showing the commentators instead of giving fans the courtesy of assessing the line up on the field is just one more example of not giving our Hawks respect. Didn't care for the close-up shots of Sam giving the play in the huddle either. Even I could read his lips!

Sam is ball'n because he's good...AND the O-line is giving him valuable seconds needed to stretch the field, check down his options, have coffee take a short nap and throw dimes. Indeed it 'takes a village' to win but if your village has a solid 5 on O, and 4 on D up front...the trickle down is a party for Sam and the rest of the villagers (Some may say I'm bias, having played O-line for 5 yrs...Some would be correct on that count.).

Sam Darnold might just be "him" as the kids say. Some of those throws were just perfect. The longest run of the night was even by Darnold, though I thought he should have taken off way sooner. It's hard to know quite what to make of this team just yet, but hopefully the most important position in the game is taken care of for a while.

By "most important position(s?)" I assume you meant the O-line right?

I wish, but we’re still a guard and possibly center away from being set there.

Takes time to gel on O-line. I think they'll get better...Calebue has potential. Not a top ten O-line...yet, but still, in my view, the "most important position(s)" if we're going to go deep in the playoffs. I think this team has a real shot. Through three halfs the Offense has been awesome.

A few observations...

Maybe I'm a curmudgeon, but I find all the pregame nonsense in the Amazon gamecast to be basically unwatchable...

I'm concerned by our second half defensive adjustments in response to their second half offensive adjustments. It seemed like they could've picked us apart with a slightly better QB performance. I am worried that this game tape might haunt us when we face a more competent foe.

Finally, I normally hate boneheaded penalties like the one by Walker, but I also believe that the post-tackle forceful manipulation of a ball carrier's legs needs to be monitored carefully and dealt with harshly. It's dirty and there's no place in the game for it. I sorta wish Walker would've just attacked him for it, or some lineman would've come in to retaliate. I didn't watch for it, but I hope someone put some hard hits on him for messing with Walker.

Woolen needs something: time on the bench, another team maybe… something! Jobe is outplaying him and should be starting.

"Went for it on fourth down on their first drive but failed the try by Zach Charbonnet"

Terrible play call.

"Coby Bryant intercepted Kyler Murray but Tyrice Knight forced a fumble that was recovered by Arizona, leading to 3 points for the Cardinals"

Coby was sliding, therefore down because he gave himself up. He didn't need to be downed by contact. Gifts Cardinals 3 points.

"Intercepted Murray again, but a 15-yard taunting penalty by Kenneth walker negated a potential third-and-short and took Seattle out of field goal range"

KWIII effed up, but unnecessary roughness should have been called, and defender started the taunting. Should have been offsetting penalties. Effect on score unknown.

"Settled for another field goal after a JSN holding penalty negated a Charbonnet touchdown run"

Defender pancakes JSN, and refs add injurious call to insult of being pancaked. Negated 7 points.

The refs swung at least 10 points to the cardinals with terrible calls.

Cards have the league a recipe for beating Seattle defense. Run the ball, quick passes, isolate slower DB and pass at him. The quick pass kind of waters down the effectiveness of our pass rush. If people start only Rpo or quick hitting us, I'm going three down line men and have two stand up edges built more like safeties so they can cover too. When the cards quick hit us we have four linemen standing there doing nothing while the rest of the coverage unit scrambled to limit yac.

I’m wondering about our feelings about Riq and Spoon. I think we should watch all of their plays closely, not just the broadcast highlights, to get a full picture.

Riq is casual and relaxed. Spoon is intense. That can prime us to be angry at Riq and forgiving of Spoon. Without looking at all their plays, we risk being dumb, opinionated fans.

From what I saw last year, Spoon is great when he runs forward, but not so great when he dropping and covering. He plays more like a safety than a corner. But the narrative is that he’s great.

Riq is no tackling torpedo, but last year, he was elite at being sticky when dropping. But after seeing poor tackling, any pass he doesn’t defend really pisses us off.

Spoon looked a bit lost in that final series. Murray was targeting him. Just before they tied it up, I said out loud that, they’re going to tie it up, and it will be on Spoon.

Thank goodness for Jobe. He can drop and cover, and he’s an aggressive tackler too. And like any corner, he’ll get beat sometimes.

Im looking forward to Emmanwori getting on the field. But he’s likely to take some of the aggressive Spoon plays. (And make those hits even harder.) But I’m not sure that I want to see Spoon drop 1 on 1 deep more than Woolen.

And don’t forget, we need depth not just starters’ snaps. Let’s hope that Riq gains intensity and confidence and that Spoon rounds out his game as the season continues.

I say this reluctantly, but neither spoon nor woolen can cover in man at a consistently high level. You’re right - love spoon in zone where he can play instinctually and aggressively. He can’t cover elite receivers tho, not a lockdown corner. Jobe is a better man cover player than either of these guys, which is a prob for a top 5 pick in the draft who will soon want a big contract.

A win is a win and I’ll take it.

But damn, Woolen needs an attitude adjustment. I wish he’d play like he loves the game and lives for competition. At this point I don’t think either is true.

Darnold is doing what he did last year. Am I surprised? I’m not. He is a top three pick that got drafted by a team where good qb’s go to die and young qb’s get chewed up and spit out. Over the last 20 years the only qb with success on either NY team is Eli Manning. Both of those teams have spent considerable capital on quarterback since 2005.

His stop in Carolina was almost as bad.

He is playing confident and has a good grasp of what Kubiak is looking for. He is accurate and most importantly, he is not forcing throws that cause turnovers like he as in the past. I saw two for sure throw away last night to avoid a turnover or sack.

I’m happy with his play and if he can continue to make solid choices with the ball…we will go to the playoffs

Sam's definitely been better than expected as he looks more like the QB he was last year + improvements in terms of playing decisive/"listening to his feet" as they like to say. He's making the right reads, throwing it away when there's nothing there, and just managing the game well.

I thought realistically, he was gonna look more like the week 1 QB we saw, which is an OC holding him back and simplifying reads to not overwhelm him, and that we'd be a super conservative offense, but happily proven wrong!

Last note, I felt like this was the perfect game we needed to see. We know the defense is going to be leading this team and has absolutely been a top 5 defense. it did for a majority of yesterday, but what we needed to see is if the offense and special teams could perform in clutch moments, or when the defense didn't do its job. And it responded! I think these moments are important for guys like Myers, Darnold etc. - to have evidence that cns point back to at later points in the season should the defense struggle

I just re-watched the game, and it really wasn’t a TE breakout game that I hoped for, but Barner and Arroyo played well. Arroyo had two very nice caches for 44 yards and if not for the DPI in the end zone he would have had another, a TD and over 50 yards in the game.

JSN had an impressive and very necessary 2nd half and was a phenom on the last drive. His last catch with 18 seconds where he struggles to get out of bounds was awesome. He did, but the refs ruled him down inbounds. In a heartbeat, he jumps up to run the ball to the hash to get another play. It reminded me of one of DK’s many mental errors where he makes a catch on the sideline and lowers his shoulder to smack into the DB for 2 more yards instead of getting out. Then because DK does not realize the clock is running, Tyler Lockett has to come racing over to pick up the ball from the ground and run to the hash to get another play. We’ve got a real winner in JSN.

It would be nice to see a big breakout game from the TE's... Still, Arroyo was the 3rd most targeted receiver and Barner was 4th. I thought Sam did a nice job of distributing the ball.

Dodging injuries, dodging a short week, two potential pitfall games end 2-0. We were a lot better than the 3pt differential. Now it's over to the coaches to hammer out those silly errors!

Teams coming together. Simmering away nicely. Balance a few flavours and we could have something tasty tasty come January.

Let's go hawks!

I feel like Walker had similar circumstances to the whiners game. He had dudes in his face at the handoff too frequently. The Arz defense played pretty well, I thought, but the OL didn't do K9 any favors. He was able to jump cut his way into some good runs. He just can't hit them all.

Even with the lack of running space at times he still averaged 4.3 per carry. Imagine if the line was consistently providing him lanes to run into.Still much better than last year's scheme though I did like a few of the run plays Grub drew up.
