Have the Seahawks made a 1st down on a 4th down attempt this season? Forgot about the Walker 19 yard TD. I think that was a 4th down. Man I am getting old.
I am very happy we came away with a win in this one.
Darnold, to me, was absolutely clutch. I came away pleased with his decision making and was impressed with the accuracy on his throws. The 36 yard pass in the 4th quarter to JSN was perfect and I do have to say I held my breath when it left his hand.
It was nice to see the TE's involved and Arroyo really flashed big play ability to me. He was targeted 4 times in the game which tallied as the third leading targeted receiver for the Hawks. I think he has a very bright future.
The run game for me was fine as we rushed for 155 yards on 35 carries. The game plan was heavily run favored with a ratio of 35 runs to 26 passes. Walker I see as a feast or famine type of back and can take it to the house on any run he has good blocking. The OL, to me, is still gelling however is much improved from last year.
The defense was lights out through the first 3 quarters and then let the Cards back into the game. Our DL might be the finest in the league and the LBers and safeties made some great plays. We held them to 253 yards with a large chunk coming in the 4th quarter.
Woolen is a puzzle for me. He looked to usually be in good position, not getting outright beat, however it seems like he loses awareness or feel when the ball is in the vicinity and therefore cannot make a proper play on the ball. I hope he figures it out as he has a tremendous amount of physical ability.
I have seen some shade cast at the play calling for the offense but I didn't have any issues with it outside of a few questionable calls. We had held the Cardinals to 6 points until the 4th quarter and so it seemed appropriate to chew up the clock with the running game and safe passes.
I held my breath on the last Myers kick and was happy for him when he made it. What a boost of confidence and trust from MM to leave it in his hands for the final points. Myers should be able to sleep well tonight.
I had to have a bit of whisky after this one to calm my nerves. Went from feeling like we had the game sewn up (I know, I know) through most the game to feeling like we were going to just hand the opponent the game on a silver platter. Darnold proved to me, however, that he is not just a simple game manager and can load the team on his shoulders and lead them to victory.
My cable connection went down 5 minutes before game time and was down for the entire first half and then some. When it came back on line, Amazon ( who was broadcasting the game was down for the remainder of the game. I had to check my google screen for score updates ao was in disbelief when I saw the Cards had tied it up. I was home and had no therapy dogs to calm me down. Huge sigh of relief when I saw the final score.
Not Spoon's best game, I'd say. Ended up on the bad end of several Cardinal plays, including ones that counted in crunch time.
Walker has to grow up now. Past time.
Coby was down.
JSN call was borderline, although any real block at all would have been unecessary. All he has to do in that situation is throw his hands out after contact. Fallling on the dude in that position would have saved him the call. Instead, it looked like he pulled him down.
Darnold feels like a real pro out there.
This game was far closer than it should have been.
It felt to me like just about everything went wrong that could go wrong, but we fought through and won. I had a premonition that Marvin Harrison, jr. would get redemption of sorts, and I prayed it would not be at our expense. I felt like if we had lost, it would have been a big F. U. to us from the football gods. We deserved to win, but it looked like after everything going wrong we would suffer the ignominy of having to go to OT to salvage a win, if we could even do that.
Well, we did. Colby Byrant did not fumble, and it is absurd that the officials actually saw the film because Bryant was giving himself up, and landed on his thigh before the ball came out. Supposedly, he is down from the point he gives himself up, and whether he holds onto the ball or not shouldn't even matter, but if it does, he still got down and the ball was knocked out by his elbow hitting the ground, and that is by definition, down by contact.
MM, rather than throw a challenge, he elected to suck it up and keep playing. And we held them to almost no offense until the fourth quarter. Basically, it all came down to Sam Darnold and JSN trusting each other and getting the necessary yards to win, just barely.
Sam is better than Geno. Sam is better than all but a few years of Russell. Sam is steady and seemingly indestructible. He has a great arm and makes good choices more reliably than Geno. I LOVE Sam Darnold. I want to have more children so I can name them Darnold.
I am a Sam fan as well, all the way back to his Jets days. My feeling is he did not have the support needed to develop properly and his real development began with the 49ers.
He seems like the perfect Seahawk quarterback... Cast off and/or poorly regarded. Zorn, Krieg, Hasselbeck, Geno and Wilson all fit this mold for me and Darnold fits right in with that group so far.
I think he would want out of being a bridge for McCarthy in Minnesota. He's what? 27? It may have never been about his folding up to end the season and more about giving everyone everything they asked for. Expected. He's Home here now. Giving us his A Game. We want smart. We got it.
I agree with this. The Vikings had a tough decision, IMO... Go with their QB of the future, convince Sam to stick around for another year or two as a bridge or go with Sam long term and try to trade McCarthy. I don't think Sam would want to be a bridge and lucky for us we seemed to have valued Sam higher than other teams.
1. Sam is exceeding my expectations. Especially when he's on the move, he's downright deadly in that situation. Hopefully he keeps it up. I think he can.
2. I think Spoon had a mixed game. He was beaten quite a few times in pass coverage, but then had a couple of excellent pass break-ups and a couple of good pressures blitzing.
3. Woolen needs an ultimatum. He's just all over the place and not doing what he needs to be doing. Right now, I'd rather see Spoon, Jobe and Kendrick at this point.
4. Anthony Bradford continues to be the weak link in the OL. There has to be someone, somewhere that can take over.
5. A win is a win. They have a pretty favorable schedule before the bye, should be 6-1.
Haynes should be off his 4 week IR restrictions. If not, Woolen has enough upside we should be able to find a qualified guard for Bradford in a straight trade. I worry the big guy will get Abe re-injured.
Better than expected. He’s doing a nice job. But when I see him inside that helmet in the 4th Quarter he always looks rattled. I remember that look from back in his USC days when the Huskies were chasing him around. I shouldn’t let it rattle me, but when he looks rattled, I get nervous.
Yea, I know what you mean, but he's getting better and better at that part. He's looking more and more like he knows what he is doing, and where his opportunities are.
Sam is better than I expected. I don't know what I expected but he is turning out to be an improvement over Geno. Maybe a big improvement.
I don't know if Arizona is better than I thought they were or if we are not as good as I thought we were. Maybe a combination. And maybe we can't play as well in 100 degree weather as Arizona can.
Seemed like we blitzed more than usual tonight. Most of the time it didn't see to help us.
Fun time in the chat. We are lucky to have SSJ and this place to deal with our obsession with a football team. Thanks for all you do Joe. And if you are not a paid subscriber yet, consider doing it if you can swing it. He devotes a lot of time to our obsession and he has another job that takes up his time. One thing he could do better is I don't think we have seen Clark in awhile? btw, did you see the Gruden game preview. It was pretty funny.
My feeling about Darnold has always been positive, and I’ve maintained since his signing that Kubiak felt he’d be better than Geno in his system. He looks like he’s still improving and we haven’t seen the best of him yet. He’s had more game winning drives since the start of 2024 than any other QB. I think he was tied with Mahomes going into this game.
I had the Hawks wining this game BIG. And going into the 4th Q it looked as if it was certain to be a big win. As you pointed out we’ve failed to capitalize when we’re playing better than our opponents and have squandered opportunities to put the away, as was the case against the Steelers and the Cards. We’ve got to look at why this is the case and see if we can make some changes to reduce these wasted chances. When we play elite teams these missed opportunities will cost us the game. The next game will be against a more solid team. We need to be on the right side of converting these opportunities and not allow these chances to be squandered.
I don’t think we really squandered anything today. A couple of call didn’t go our way, which wasn’t our fault and also out of our control; and we missed a field goal, which is pretty rare really. Those things alone caused the game to be close. Otherwise it would have been the blowout it deserved.
Sam is definitely a top 10 QB. After tonight I have to question how long we can keep Bradford and Woolen. We can't run between the tackles on the right side of the line unless Bradford accidentally falls down and manages to slow a defender down for a few seconds and Woolen seems lost in coverage. I think the Hawks will be looking for replacements if they don't improve soon. Thankfully, I don't believe MM and OC K have a lot of patience for lousy play.
We had a family friend who was an NFL scout and he always said that teams make changes when they realize that almost any replacement couldn't be worse than the starter. He was right.
No doubt the guy can feel the effort it takes for his teammates to be civil with him. For that reason alone, he'd do well to start over somewhere else. Combined with his Frisco performance, he's done.

May the 12s be with you.
I know Myers missed that one today, but when it came to that last pressure kick, he produced the goods.
We are blessed with two of the best kickers in the game.
I am very happy we came away with a win in this one.

Ah, decompressed now. Good night, all.

Defense didn't shut the door at the end, did it?
Run blocking still a work in process.
Myers' gamewinner was very close to a miss.
I look forward to getting them in Seattle in 6 weeks and seeing how close that game will be.
They are what I was expecting...even when all the ANAlysts were badmouthing him.
This was a reference to my Thoughts on Sam the man.

btw, the game book is up.

Yes, and IMHO he is seeing the open receivers down field better than Geno or Russ.

Hard to believe that Woolen is our best option as a third corner.
Also hard to believe that he needs to hold to prevent getting burned deep with his speed and height.
My biggest disappointment of the night was covering defenders consistently not looking for the ball, which I view as a bad sign.

I can’t believe that was a 6 sack game. And as the group noted, most with only 4 man rush. Thats so cool to see.
