What Martin said... 1990 Krieg took them the length of the field on the last possession. 4th and goal. Last second, Krieg shrugs under eighth sack by Derrick forget his last name died too young awesome linebacker and hit Skansie in the end zone for TD. You had to be there (watching TV.) One of the best victories ever. That year, we were in a three-way tie for the wild card at the end of the season and despite having beaten both the other teams (Pittsburgh and somebody else), we didn't go because of stupid NFL structure for determining who goes in a three-way tie. Chuck Knox's second to last season, I think.

Hi Kenneth - Another interesting and enjoyable column. Thanks very much!

Kind of surprised that you didn't figure out a way to mention this game, though. Krieg sacked 7 times, and yet we didn't lose:

November of 1990. Derrick Thomas post (and still) an NFL record seven sacks in KC against "Little Hands with Butter Fingers" Dave Krieg. Thomas was about to record his eighth in the waning seconds of the game with KC leading Seattle. However, Slippery David narrowly escaped the clutches of “Meaty McMeat Hands“ and threw the winning touchdown (which was really a desperation, midrange wounded duck Hail Mary that was beautifully secured in all kinds of traffic by Gig Harbor's own Paul Skansi for a Seattle win. I was a junior in college at SPU that year watching from my home near Green Lake. It was a beautiful thing amongst that very long run of seasons that only seemed to vacillate between 9-7 or 7-9.

In 2013, the Seahawks drafted RBs Christine Michael (2/62) and Spencer Ware (6/194). The Hawks cut Ware in 2014, who then went on to have a productive career in Kansas City. As for Michael...

There’s also DB Ron Parker--an undrafted player originally signed by the Seahawks in 2011. Parker bounced around various practice squads (including three stints in Seattle), but for obvious reasons never got more than a cup of coffee with the Seahawks. Eventually, Parker became a 6-year starter in Kansas City.

Well done Ian Lamberton that was what sprung to my mind, and Thomas did miss the sac that allowed Skansies TD. I wonder who was trying to block Thomas other than the whole Seahawk team

Good memories. The 45-0 win was one of the great defensive performances of the team in those years. Kenny Easley was a beast, and had Dave Brown not gotten poached from the Steelers in the expansion supplemental picks Seattle had back in 76 I bet he’d be a borderline hall of fame case. Being in Seattle made him invisible. (Easley got into the hall eventually because players like Ronnie Lott lobbied for him)

I always hated the Chiefs and Broncos more than the Raiders and Chargers in those old NFC West rivalries. Mostly because Seattle seemed to win occasionally against the latter two.

Also 19-33 (all time record against the Chiefs) is statistically very close to 2-3 (record since 2002). Unless it’s a tie on Sunday the post 2002 record will move far out of whack with the overall record, statistically, since the small sample size will skew it.

How about the Derrick Thomas 7 sack game (record?)

in 1990, that Hambone pulled out the victory.

Agree, they have a chance. Gotta focus my good vibes, send em over the Rockies and across the plains to Arrowhead for three hours! Go Hawks!

That 2 minute drive was just 4 verts and the full back John L Williams circling out of the back field for a 8 yard gain. all the way down the field, no time outs.. just line up on the ball. they were very efficient. you don't see that from many teams now.

This "ice storm" reminded me that the Seahawks and Chiefs have had crazy weather in a past matchup. The infamous rain game in Arrowhead from 1998.

My other memorable game against the Chiefs was the NFL record 7 sacks by Derrick Thomas in 1990 against Dave Krieg, however, Krieg would be the hero and evade the 8th sack and throw the game winning touchdown to Paul Skansi!
