Anyone who didn't vote for the Nick Bellore origin story is just wrong. Unless it is a super boring story, in which case I'm wrong. How is this guy still in the NFL???

Breaking News From the Future! (from the halfway point of the 2023 season) Jaxon Smith-Njigba Sets the NFL on Fire: The biggest question of the 2023 season is: Can anyone guard JSN? So far, the answer is no. Stepping into the 2023 season as the first WR taken in the 2023 draft, Smith-Njigba started off immediately getting open and so far he gets open nearly every play. Leading the NFL in receptions and yards and yards after the catch, and at the halfway point of the season is the leading contender for MVP. Blah, blah, blah

That's why I voted for JSN.

Speaking of the origin stories mentioned... when are we getting the promised 2nd part of 'Spoon's story?

I don't have a set schedule for that but I imagine it will come out over several parts over the summer.

If PC/JS think Nuwosu is going to play at that back-end of season level, you surely cut him because that's not a $13mil player. If you think Nuwosu is going to play at a level which is closer to that of a Reddick, you get that extension done and a free up a handy $2-5mil for this season whilst getting your best value future deal. Just get the damn deal done!

I have DK roughyl equal to NoE. But as I said in the Gut Take threat, that'll be around 1100yds and 10 TD, so a very good season. Then i've picked Diggs, because when talking Safties it's mostly Adams and/or cap hit, rather than contribution, and Quandre can produce at a very very high level. Behind Witherspoon, Love, Woolen, Jackson, Adams, Bryant in conversation comes Diggs, watch that man be crucial!

Finally, is Geno capable of an MVP season? Hell no. You're not a dual-threat QB, you ain't winning the MVP for the forseable future (unless Jefferson goes over 2000yrds maybe, and even then i'd still expect it to go to a dual-threat QB). Geno can definitely have a Matt Ryan esque season, but that's not enough to win an MVP in the league now.

Possibly, but Aaron Rogers is not and has never been a dual threat QB and he has several MVP awards, I believe. Not saying Geno can do it because he is no Aaron Rogers. In fact, judging by last season, Rogers is not the MVP quality QB he used to be. Maybe his new gig can change that. Brady was also not a dual threat QB but he is the GOAT so far.

I might be biased (I’m an aussie), and I know kickers aren’t really considered all that important, but your total lack of mention of our excellent Michael Dickson is borderline criminal 😁. He has been, and remains a super important factor in pinning oppositions back into our red zone. He has been an invaluable contributor for quite some time now and still you overlook him! Not a single mention Joe?! In the infamous words of the other Joe, ‘C’mon man’.

We can only hope. At least we’ll know where in good hands if we need to. Or is it good legs? Or just one leg? Or is it hands and leg? Oh no, I think I’m over thinking it.

I vote to extend Uchenna because Kenneth has been arguing for it. After calling the Witherspoon draft pick, “In KA/SSJ I trust” is moving into “In PCJS I trust” territory.

Actually I thought Cross was overlooked last year -- people forget how difficult LT is, it’s the premium OL position for a reason, more difficult than RT too. And he was just a rookie. Not much of a fall-off vs Duane Brown actually. Even if he just holds to what he did last year Seattle will have a competent LT and if he takes it up a notch, will be at least top 15. Not many people talking about the big jumps that are likely for both Cross and Lucas although Lucas is getting more press/recognition. So yeah, Charles Cross the most overlooked.

I was going to vote for Charles Cross because his name is first on the list, but I decided to throw a wild card and choose the guy in the middle. I don’t have any reasoned support for my position. I do like the fact that we have two very young tackles who are hopefully going to be having a decent improvement on their impact this season.

I think DK will end up being the most productive bc Lockett and Jaxon will split the same kinds of routes — and will leave DK with more 1:1 coverage. And if the line gives Geno just another 0.5 secs back there (yr 2 for Cross and Lucas, better center play from either of the two this year, and anyone other than Gabe Jackson), DK should free up. My bet would be the combo of Jaxon and Lockett by far outperforming DK but individually, he’ll be the most productive.

Resigning him now, assumes there is enough cap room for next year to make this reasonable.

Seaside Joe's avatar

Definitely. Hard to predict where Seahawks might make some tough cuts, but there's a relatively long list of players who are basically playing to not be cut in 2024. That will make for a good article.

Reason I say “not yet” is because there’s been so much change on the DL. Will Taylor go from 9.5 to 15? How will Tyreke Smith appear? Boye Mafe make a jump? Do Jarran and Dre’Mont get 12-15 sacks between them? How promising is Derick Hall, and is Morris anything close to those 2013 big ends Seattle used to have? Or Mario Edwards? Are the Hawks going to be back to that wave of DL’s and DE’s like 2013 where maybe you had a Bennett or an Avril but not anyone considered a top 10 DE? Are Jamal Adams and Devin Bush going to be blitzing a lot? And always had hope for Alton although he sounds unlikely now.

In that group, without question Uchenna is the best rushing end plus he plays the run, very valuable guy, but should Schneider wait just a tad to see how the “pass rush by committee” approach works before putting $45-$50m on any one rusher?

Risk is he waits, Uchenna proves to be even more ruthless now that he has more help, and the cost goes to $60m not $45m.

I’d take the risk, bc if this is what happens then Seattle has a great not good end for this new scheme. Just too many unknowns at the moment.

I voted the same and for similar reasons. Of all the OLBs I think they know what they have most with Nwosu. I'd take the risk and see how these guys sort themselves out next season.

I get the point that an extension could be a good signal to future free agents that if you come to Seattle we are willing to reward you once you "prove it," but these guys that are outside of the organization are going to follow the money no matter how they see us treating our own players. It might make a difference, but I doubt that kind of display sways guys away from a better contract elsewhere.

True, many young edge players hoping to blossom.

Nwosu was great last year, and I hope he is great this year, too. However, I am not certain where the Hawks will remain cheap, and maybe OLB is that spot. If Mafe takes the next step, he may be a legitimate starter material. Hall is expected to take on a starter role. Wait a year to see how it shakes out. Smith, who is effectively a rookie could also show himself worthy of plenty of reps.

We might be able to make a great trade with Nwosu during the season. I didn't see someone so dominant that we would be fools not to resign him.

It's an interesting time for Nwosu. He could blow up and be worth a lot more or implode and be worth a lot less.

Schneider didn’t extend Cliff Avril after the first year of his 2-yr deal. I can’t see Schneider extending Nwosu either.

Good point to bring up. Avril was extended in December of the second year of his deal, so Seahawks could be negotiating with Nwosu into the season.
