Getting hyped for Boye Mafe’s 2nd year jump. This defensive line could be sneaky good. If they can credibly shore up the nose tackle position with a combination of Reed/insert rookie, UDFA, whatever then this line might be a force. Most likely not on the level of Niners, Eagles etc.. but a strength nonetheless. We’ll see when the rubber hits the road whether the run defense, assignment issues, slow starts, among other things (like picking Witherspoon over Carter. Not that I don’t love Devon, I do. But dang that might be a 20/20 rearview moment, just sayin) have been fixed but I have faith in Mafe, Jones and the new look line.

As limited time as the starters will get, the one thing I want to see is progress in defending against the run - edges set, gaps maintained, and better tackling. Too often last week big holes were blown into the defensive front early on and Chandler was picking up 8 or 9 yards a pop.

So will be interesting to see Deuce, the Cowboys’ 5’5” RB. How do you even see him when he’s lined up behind the hog mollies? I can see some comedy potential (whilst wondering who the shortest player was to ever play in the NFL)

Looking negative, again, of seeing Young at nose. He’s one I have been wanting to see play. Still not practicing. I especially want to see Reed as I was impressed with some plays last week. And whose the 4th RB? Be great to see McIntosh’s “hands”.

I want to see if Koback stands out again. Haven’t heard anything about him since the first game which he was good in.

I’d also like to see more of Ahlers, Bobo and JSN. all the hype has been about JSN, but to be honest, I didn’t see much in the first game that blew me away. I don’t want to be disappointed by him being over-hyped, then him not playing to expectations.

I'd like to see THE GAME tomorrow. NFL network isn't on my DirecTV package anymore, and i'm out of market. May have to settle for highlights. Looking for free trials, right now

Fieldgulls mentioned last week after the KING5 broadcasting debacle that you could watch the game on Seahawks.com but I'm not sure if this is live during the game or a stream after the game, or if its offered on all preseason games. But the "Watch Live" button on the graphic at the top of this page implies a live stream will be available.

Yeah, I have the app, too, and it has a button. I tried that last time. It is only for PNW local. I can get a 1 week trial of Fubo, and they have NFL network. So, I'm gonna get a free week tomorrow and catch both tomorrow's and next Sat v. Green Bay. Good lookin out, though. I appreciate you.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised by that.

I just realized that I added some useful info by replying to myself...so you'd have no idea that I did that.

Yeah, I know...idiot!

I'd like to see the first series go to Geno, and a couple more with Drew Lock and the starters. After that I would like to see a well coached team doing mostly good stuff but don't care who's on the field.

Expand full comment

Oh yeah, baby!!! I'm getting my wish so far. It's 8:35 pm, Aug 19th, halftime with the Cowboys and the Seahawks leading 17-7. Geno looked great for the first two series and Drew Lock has been playing great with the first team line. Now all I want is a well played game no matter who wins. Go 'Hawks!!

The third quarter isn't going according to my hopes or expiations. Really poor play from the reserves.

What's everyone thoughts on this... Super bowl year, We blow Denver out in the Preseason, then do the same in the Super bowl.. We have Dallas again on Thanksgiving day. Think Pete might send a message on Saturday? I know, probably not. It is just preseason and no starters playing...

There is a woman in the office where I work who is a big Dallas fan (she grew up there) and we were talking about which team had the better backups lol. I love Pete's competitive spirit and this will be a test to see how deep the team is, but the scheme on both D and O is vanilla compared to what we will see during the season so it is hard to put too much stock in the results other than to see how individuals do in certain situations--can they beat their man? Can they tackle? Can they get open? Can they catch? That's about it.

Sort of changing the subject, but, I'm glad I'm not going to have to watch the battle of the "supposed to be Seahawks" Malik Willis and Will Levis battling it out for 3rd on the Titans depth chart. Cuz neither would be even back-up QB's for any current team other than the Titans, who swung for the fences twice to replace Tannehill and apparently missed.

Whew! Go Seahawks pre-season!!

Levis is hurt too.

Should add that Rob Stanton should publicly apologize for trying to sell everyone on Levis at #5. Or higher.

YES!!!

Also, if Rob Staton is gonna waltz around bragging about calling correctly not selecting Jalen Carter, shouldn't he take responsibility for incorrectly calling Levis? Interesting that he only talks about his wins and not the losses.

Is also a tad premature for him to bragging about not selecting Carter, jury definitely still out on that one. But Levis isn't even beating Willis.

And just for more fun on this subject: guess who's #2 on the Green Bay Packers QB depth chart? Another rookie QB, guy named Sean Clifford who went at 149/5th round.

May recognize the name -- is the Penn State QB that Levis couldn't unseat, hence Levis's transfer to Kentucky.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha

Great point!

I have never understood why one would rather have Levis over Spoon and Lock. I doubt JS ever even realistically considered that. Would you even rather have Levis over Lock irregardless of the opportunity cost (Spoon)?

Nope. Never liked the probabilities. For every Josh Allen there are dozens of Jake Lockers or Tim Tebows or Trey Lances or Malik Willises. Too many warning signs with Levis. Plus Jim Nagy’s warnings.

I agree totally with you Kenneth. I want to see these 'other guys' we need players on the practice squad that can more or less hold their own (if called upon) and the only way to find these guys, you have to get them on the field in a playing situation.

You could be right. I must say I look at the Rams game as one which is a step short of a must win. The Cardinals and Rams are meant to be 4 wins at worst 3 and beating the Niners once. We have a tough schedule firstly our bye is in week 5. The other point of interest is how many good teams we must play. If all goes according to the way I see things, this should be like our 2012 seasons. Our young guys came into their own and we won the Super Bowl the following year.

What I hope to see: no injuries to anyone on either team.

As for Pete as a coach, I'll admit I was leaning towards Team Russ when it was all going down but by the end of 2021 I was really amazed that Pete rallied a team that didn't have much to play for: they couldn't make the playoffs at 5-10, it was clear the franchise QB wanted out, and WR1 was openly griping about his role on the team. But rally them he did, and they played hard as a TEAM to end the season. Those last two games against the Lions and Cards were when I knew there was hope if Wilson left, because only a really great coach can motivate a struggling team and get them to play that hard and have that much fun like that.
