Not a Seahawks article per se but I would argue just as important if you are going to be a serious person and write serious articles about this team. Share your insights with well thought out arguments. Check. Display your failures as widely as your successes. Check. At every turn reaffirm your commitment to covering the hawks and only the hawks. Check. Serious hawks fans know. It’s Seaside Joe.

What a great accomplishment. I echo all of what was said below.

I also want to add that not only has he written everyday but there is rarely if ever a regurgitated story. That’s unbelievable. Many writers and people in general get stuck on one thought and beat a dead horse. Just incredible to keep the writings fresh and interesting daily.

You have to have varying perspectives to pull that off. Not easy.

I also found the discussion on “non-negotiable daily habits” very interesting. I have never heard that … but maybe I should.

Cheers Joe!

Oh how I wish those in the political media held themselves to the non-popularity-focused ideals of Seaside Joe!

(strolls in late)…well, it appears everyone else beat me to the punch. But I can’t just say nothing.

SSJ, I’m channeling my inner Debbie Boone when I say “you light up my (football) life.”

Your daily compulsion has substantially improved the quality of football information and entertainment I consume. You’ve helped my perspective of football and made Seahawks fandom MORE fun. And it was already fun.

You’ve increased my understanding of the Xs and Os of professional football as well as things like the cap and contract structure.

Thanks for taking on this compulsion of yours. It’s brought me to a football community that is a delight.

Thanks! I have spent like what, a year maybe doing the Xs and Os daily habit for myself, and I have to say...Damn this stuff is hard! Maybe only now am I starting to watch the videos and kind of getting an understanding like, "Oh yeah, where are the safeties before the snap?" "Ok I know the routes" "I think this is a pin and pull." It's really not going to be that tomorrow I understand the bones of football plays, but it's just about getting a little bit better everyday, week, and month. I want to be more cognizant of sharing the good videos I watch and we're lucky to live in a crazy time where so many people on YouTube and Twitter are sharing this stuff. I've seen Kurt Warner breakdown Caleb Williams, I've seen Chase Daniel do it, I've seen JT O'Sullivan do it...I've probably seen like 10 people do it.

And the younger me would have shied away from admitting that I have a lot to learn about football despite following it for so long but then if that's how I feel, then surely that's how many other fans feel too and we can learn it together. Does any sport come close to the number of positions and unique assignments of a football team? I don't think so. So, understandably, it's really complicated (to me) if you haven't played it extensively. I played for less than 2 years in high school.

I played for one year, and NOW that I have learned a little bit about the sport, I am shocked at how little our coaches actually taught us. And I mean almost nothing at all. They spent 10 minutes telling us how tackle, and it was suicidal. No one would teach tackling that way today. That is about it. I cannot remember them teaching me anything else. They were rookie coaches, so that's part of it. They discouraged questions. It put me off the sport for quite a while.

I just want to take this moment to brag that I have read at least one article on the Seahawks every single day for 1,828 days! Kenny, you’ve managed to create something really special and rare. A daily sports newsletter that features a comment section where people are, almost entirely, polite with one another and thoughtful even when disagreeing. I did not believe this was possible on the internet.

When the paid tiers of SSJ started up, my pet supply store was on the verge of closing. I literally paid to go to work every day during Covid and for a while thereafter. We canceled every magazine and streaming subscription, learned to cook on a budget I hadn’t experienced since college, and shopped almost entirely at thrift stores. I reached out to Kenny and he offered to comp the newsletter for me. Seeing as he had just gotten a puppy, I started sending them a Clark Box (tm) every couple of months of dog toys and treats. And occasionally some spices and hot sauce and such so that it isn’t all for Clark. And I get such a genuine thank you email after every one, even though I feel like it’s a small token for the newsletter I receive. I am very appreciative and I’m team SSJ for life.

Someone told me that reading SSJ was their daily non-negotiable habit and I was like "Oh yeah!" It doesn't really occur to me or hit me that people actually have that commitment every time I hit send on another newsletter, but I think sharing the habit is maybe even more important than sharing thoughts and news on the Seahawks.

I hope all is well Chuck and I'm very grateful for those Clark boxes, as is Clark. Really not necessary to do but very kind of you! Clark has enough treats for a whole year at least haha.

Some abbreviate your nom de plume as SSJ, but I use SJ and that's non-negotiable unless your send me an angry note. With that important point out of the way, I will add that you have integrity and respect for everyone here, SJ. Those are your defining virtues. You say and then do the same thing. You are not always right (and you often say, "that's OK") but you are always true (to yourself and us subscribers.)

Thanks to all the nice people on board here. I know that I know nothing about the Hawks, but that seems to be OK, even with the smart and informed. It's a positive place in an increasingly negative world and I really relax when I visit.

Just to be clear, I liked your post in spite of not wanting to endorse your abbreviation for SSJ, but eventually it will be an identifier for you, or we will all convert to your easier, by one letter, abbreviation.

The oldest SSJ in my email is November 23, 2019. It's about a QB that the NFC won't face in the coming season. I hadn't deleted it. I'm still reading and learning from.you. Congratulations!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for the time that you put into this newsletter. This is BY FAR the best coverage of my favorite team. As long as you keep writing, I will keep subscribing. Your insights are always interesting and I read it daily. I really appreciate that you have added this newsletter to your non-negotiable daily habits and it has transferred into one of my own - seeing what SJ has to say today.

Also to commenters: appreciate you too! You are part of this great Hawks community and I enjoy your thoughts and insights, even if you disagree with me that Geno is not good.

Your articles are neither stupid nor rude. Just perspectives. I am pleased this goes into the comments, as well. Your Witherspoon pick definitely put you on my radar along with solidifying your place among sports writers as a Voice to be heard. My hope is, should a player come here, they don't get any hate traffic but know they are reading sincere opinions by passionate fans behaving themselves. Many times I've asked myself what effect an opinion would have on a Geno, as I seem to target him a lot. Maybe, just maybe, he gets an idea that didn't come from the Field and could actually lead to improvements. The guy still holds a huge upside now Pete isn't there to stifle his tendency to play with passion. 'Go Zen', my ass. Kick Ass, Geno. This is FOOTBALL! So in case you are wondering, Ken, I am certain Seaside Joe is growing popular among the Players. No evidence, just suspicions. No Brag, just fact.

I look forward to the first pick any time the Seahawks are in the top-20 or so and it becomes a lot easier to narrow down their list of choices. 16 is right on the border of maybe forecasting what will happen but I think much harder than 5 or 9. I can't wait to see who I predict for them this year.

Dang, SSJ, you work too hard. Seriously. But if you want to work as hard as you do, then you might as well become a coach rather than a writer, and especially since you are a writer with an honorable philosophy that does not bode well for becoming well rewarded for your efforts. Writing is obsolete, really. And good ones switch to video if they have the voice and personality for it, which you don't.

But if you are going to tie one hand behind your back by being an honorable writer, you put perhaps too much of a limit to your success. A coach is not obsolete, but requires your dedication to become successful. Maybe it doesn't suit you, so maybe scouting is more your sort of thing.

The reason guys like Hurd covers more than football is money. Plain and simple, that pretty much is it. As in most things, the $$ you make is the recognition and respect you get.

The only way I see you reaching the financial success you deserve would to write a book on football that finds success. Hardly a get rich scheme or even a high percentage risk to take, but some of us follow our hearts, and sometimes we get stuck working for peanuts as a result.

Money is freaking great, but it comes in a distant second to happiness.
