Was going to say ,Resign Jarren Reed to extension NOW! But I see the correction and thought he was on a two year deal. Brooks is getting better every game and should be a sure resign. D Taylor would in my book only be a resign if it was DIRT cheap! What I would like to see if possible is bring back Ryan Neal! Best Player on D last year! and he played significantly better than Julian Love has so far!

Sorry for my mistake-Jarran Reed was signed to a two-year contract!

As long as Diggs and Adams finish the season healthy, I think they will be back next year. They are the clear starters, under contract, veteran leaders, and defensive identity/tone setters. We have other young guys we hope can grow into those leadership roles, but they aren't there yet. Love, Coby and Reed all seem physically similar to me and fit best at FS. We'll see if Coby and/or Reed can do enough between now and week one next year to make Love expendable. So much could still happen between now and then that I agree with the notion that none of these guys are certain to be on the week one roster next season.

I don't see how Darrell Taylor will be back, unless his market is on the floor (which it very well could be) and Seattle can keep him around at a very low cost......but why would they with 2 young developing players already there, plus a solid vet.

Not to change the subject (but I am) did you catch DK's press conference yesterday? Absolutely zero contrition. "I ain't changing." That's basically telling everyone he doesn't care what Pete thinks. He's gonna do what he's gonna do, and the coaching staff will just need to do what they need to do. Ok DK. They just might.

Not to psychoanalyze the man, but that told me his previous comments after earlier penalties where he said "I have to be better" were not what he felt, but just what he wanted everyone to hear, and what he knew Pete expected him to say. Apparently he is no longer willing to be the apologist. After all, he only gets 17 opportunities (not including playoffs) to be violent. And sometimes he can't be violent enough during the play, so he needs to be violent AFTER the play. You know, it's hard to find enough time for enough violence.......penalties be damned.

I just don't know what is rolling around in that man's mind.

I didn't see the conference, so I didn't hear the question. I'll reserve judgment until I get the entire context. I'm allowing for DK to clear up his meaning, he certainly could reduce the penalties after the whistle while still not changing how he plays. But, there is a line to cross from being physical over to hurting the team. I hope he and Pete get a hold on balancing that, and I think they will, especially since it's been a public hot button.

All that said, I'm going to go back and watch the conference. It seems like maybe his emotional control is failing him during games and in the press conference, too. Gotta get that harnessed and channeled!

Mario is disrupting the backfield and absorbing blocks and giving a solid effort. He seems like he is happy to be here and any negatives will decrease his cost. Same can be said about Jaren Reed. I expect them back. I've always liked Mone, but we will see there. Wagner will come back and maybe be used less, but will mentor any draftees. I like the guy we picked up on waivers, too. Brooks is playing his best football and Pete likes him so I think most of the front seven will actually be back.

Pete has always spoken highly of Brooks and seems genuine when doing so (not just coach speak). It's a non-football reason, but it's why I feel like they're going to give him a 2nd contract.

Player buy-in is valuable for team chemistry, and apparently, Brooks does everything and says everything to make Pete want him around. And it's not like Brooks plays poorly at all things. He has liabilities, but overall he is a net positive for the team in my opinion.

The Safety Problem cannot just keep rolling on, but I fully expect PC/JS will continue to operate handcuffed and totally negating any savings made at the QB position. The most likely result is that Diggs goes and we keep Love & Adams alongside Reed & Byrant + a rookie. It'll work but we will all know it could be so so much better.

The other major issue is LB. From what i've seen, and heard, this is not a good LB draft class (again). Last year wasn't great but there were some options, and it was a perfect time to get a rookie and groom him under Wagner. Maybe Bobby runs it back one more time for a last dance in 2024 and we can still get that chance. Plus Brooks can still work, it will just all be dependent what contract he gets. Big big positional question mark without a clear solution, or much money to splash. There's a few FA's i'm keeping an eye on but so much will depend where we can find money.

My favorite free agent is Drew Tranquil. My second is Jordyn Brooks.

It's going to be interesting to see what kind of market Brooks has. I feel confident that the Seahawks will be trying to bring him back, but it's a difficult position to judge the value of these days.

According to over the cap:

* Jarran Reed is signed for 2 years. An extension might happen, but if nothing is done, he's under contract and will be a free agent in 2025.

* Myles Adams will be an exclusive rights free agent and can be had for under a million. It's a no-brainer.

* Darrell Taylor will be a restricted free agent, meaning he's still cost controlled. $3M if we want to extract a 2nd rounder from whomever wants to offer him more, under $7M if we up the requirement to a first rounder.

Thanks for that, Luis, I have a vague memory of Reed being signed for two years and it sort of freaked me out to hear SSJ say it was only one year. What about Original Round Tender for Taylor, isn't that second round and is it cheaper?

Luis Guilherme's avatar

Yes, it’s called right of first refusal tender now, and that’s the one that costs $3M. Second round is close to or a little over $5M if I recall correctly.

It seems to me the Hawks would trade D Taylor right now for a second from the right team. So, even a Right of first Refusal Tender would pass without anyone stepping up to take him. Therefore, the question becomes does he have enough potential to improve to risk $3 mil for a one year contract? I'm guessing, no.

I've only recently come to subscribe to a page as this, so I'll ask if anyone has done any analyses on what the Covid years did to quality play in colleges? Seems PC/JS determined last year's QB rookies weren't up to snuff? Any other positions that took serious hits?

Should have had Mike Morris on the original list. He got through the cracks in my research. I expect Morris to be in camp obviously. There’s little to say about him at this time. Nothing against him, we just don’t know much and this team did just release Tyreke Smith not long ago so fifth round picks aren’t guaranteed anything, especially ones who miss their rookie seasons.

Big Mike will be back, health permitting.

Agree. The only way he's not back is if that shoulder issue is long term.

But...Mike Morris was solid and spoken of as a potential contributor in rotation. I think he was playing more like a third rounder than a fifth rounder.

Hmm... of the S group I would almost think Diggs is most likely to be released given the performance we have seen in 2023 *so far*. Diggs really came on towards the end of 22 and it seemed like he took most of last season to get comfortable after his injury the previous year. But... we haven't seen the 'difference making' plays from him that would justify the big spend. For Jamal, the savings might not be enough to release him unless his performance really sags this year, and I am optimistic based on what we have seen *so far* that he might get closer to his old self as the season progresses, which would justify bringing him back on his current deal.
