Seahawks draft picks: DERICK HALL!
Hall gives Seattle an intriguing edge room this offseason
With the 37th pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks added Auburn edge player Derick Hall. People were wondering if the Seahawks would pick an edge player at #5 or #20, but Seattle apparently felt comfortable with the depth at the position and after selecting Devon Witherspoon and Jaxon Smith-Njigba on day one, they get a defensive line prospect with “great character” (no surprise there) and a high ceiling.
He is 6’3, 254 lbs, he has 34.5” arms, and he ranked second among all edge players at the combine for athleticism score, per NFL.com.
Hall’s first strength listed on his bio is “team captain with tremendous character” but immediately followed by “NFL-caliber aggression and toughness”. He seems like the exact right player to follow Witherspoon and JSN.
“There may be no more improbable human being to play in the NFL than Derick Hall” according to ESPN’s broadcast. Hall had less than a one-percent chance to live at birth because he was born four months pre-mature.
Said an anonymous scout on Hall: “He’s tight-limbed and he’s more segmented than you want but he’s tougher than s--- and he’s going to be a great fit in a locker room.”
The Seahawks have an interesting edge room so far with Uchenna Nwosu, Darrell Taylor, Boye Mafe, and Hall. As well as Alton Robinson, Tyreke Smith, Chris Garrett, and Joshua Onujiogu.
I won’t be surprised if Smith comes out of camp with a legitimate job, but adding Mafe and Hall in back-to-back second rounds gives Seattle options for the future. His NFL comp is Carl Lawson and this seems like the perfect spot in the draft for him.

Seahawks draft picks: DERICK HALL!
I was reading Seattle ESPN and Wyman was surprised at the selection as he had not been mocked in any drafts in the NFL. So I decided to look into that. I ran across this quote from Pro football Network,
"For the majority of his career, Auburn EDGE Derick Hall was one of the most productive pass rushers in the SEC. He now takes his talents to the 2023 NFL Draft, where he’s an under-the-radar prospect deserving of early-round capital. Just how appealing is Hall’s profile, and how high up the board should he rise in April?"
Draft network listed him as a first round value. NFL network listed him as a second round prospect. He was mocked to the Bengals in the second round and earlier this year he was mocked to KC at 31.
Draft Buzz listed him 6th overall at LB/Edge and was considered a 2nd round guy. Go figure, he had a great Senior Bowl week and I found this quote, from Matt Miller at Draft Scout "He’s a late first-rounder who might slip to the early second round, but not much farther." He was listed at number 8 in the article "10 Senior Bowl winners." He is more of a rush product at this time but has shown bright spots in penetration against the run and setting the edge with his physical gifts. As I mentioned yesterday he was second athletically to Anderson at the combine.
I honestly had not heard anything about the guy but then again Auburn was second to last with a losing record in the SEC West. He put up great numbers in the SEC in losing efforts, , a strong statement to his character and leadership skills.
Under the radar and a good fit for Seattle.
I didn’t know anything about Hall, but that video makes me think he could be a fan favorite real soon. He’s so well spoken with such an amazing back story. He’ll have his boat out on Lake Washington and Puget Sound in no time.
