My top choice of a player we could actually have a chance to draft from each of the 8 groups.
QB - Beck
WR - Sarratt
RB - Coleman
TE - Stowers
DB - Haulcy
DL - Dennis-Sutton
LB - Rodriguez
OL - Pregnon
I'm not sure it makes sense to draft a few of these positions are year. I would lean towards stacking the trenches and this leads me to Pregnon as a way to possibly upgrade AB. I love Haulcy and Rodriguez but not sure how they'd fit in at this time. Dennis-Sutton should be available in the second round as should Coleman. First pick prediction is Pregnon but totally depends on who's left at 32 if we choose to pick there at all.
I wonder if the effusive praise and love for the Seahawks will harm his chances of getting drafted earlier than 32? That would be a good thing for the Hawks, but not necessarily for Howell. In any case, I will be more than happy to draft Howell at 32, but later would be even better.
I agree this is the position that an elite player will most tilt the field in the Hawks direction, on either side of the ball this year. if it were me, and if I’m sold this is the best odds of a blue chip at edge in this draft, if this guy truly comps to Von miller.. I take him at 32 and say thank you very much.
Like I wrote yesterday, I think a speed rusher might be a luxury pick for this defense. A stout, run-defending edge in a later round would be more of a bread & butter pick.
Then again, just a couple of months ago, the Seahawks won the Super Bowl. It’s okay to treat yourself, every once in a while.
2019 |Derrick Brown |1st round, 7th overall (Carolina Panthers) |Auburn
2018 |Josh Allen |1st round, 7th overall (Jacksonville Jaguars) |Kentucky
2017 |Roquan Smith |1st round, 8th overall (Chicago Bears) |Georgia
2016 |Jonathan Allen |1st round, 17th overall (Washington Commanders) |Alabama
There's some pretty good names on that list.
Howell doesn't rank super high on NGS, PFF, or other sites which makes me a little nervous. I think he looks OK on tape imo. I'm not sure if I'd pull the trigger at 32, it depends who else is still there I guess. I support whomever we take as long as they have elite processing and 'instincts". Go Hawks! Begaw!
If both TJ Parker and Cassius Howell are still on the board and we can’t trade down, would you predict Howell even though the consensus has Parker higher? Perhaps bc he’s more Seahawky?
Know there may be some good corners at 32 as well but assuming edge is the pick at 32
Very likable kid and a potential quick win specialist. A small trade back and getting Howell sounds great! I'd prefer a few other big dudes for trench work if we stay at 32.
I've just about talked myself into Chris Johnson (CB, San Diego State) at 32. Maybe Faulk, maybe McDonald.
I still don't know for certain what the Seahawks want from the Edge position. I also leave room for the possibility that they have adapted (offscreen) and we don't yet know. But 30-1/4" arms...that's short.
aw that interview. Very appealing dude with the right attitude. He's not really the dual type of edge, though, that it looks like MacDonald prefers. He's not going to be beefy enough to hold the edge, I think. So I'm not sure he's a replacement for Mafe, Chenna, Lawrence...more of a pass rush specialist... but it would be hard to avoid liking the dude and wanting him to succeed. Would be ok if we got picks for our 32 and got him in the early second. Still would like speed and jukes in that backfield, though...
Agreed and if the Seahawks brought him and said "This is what you would do for us" like he described happened, certainly Macdonald has an inclination that Howell would have an important role in Seattle if drafted. Maybe the Seahawks think he'll fall much further than 32 and are thinking about him in round 2. It happened to DK Metcalf.
Did they really have a plan to wait for Metcalf, though? I thought he just sort of fell into their laps. I think they have said they were waiting for both JSN and Murph, though. And lingered over Emmanwori until they felt they could take a shot...
Sorry, not implying that the Seahawks had a plan to get Metcalf at 64. I meant that people were projecting Metcalf first round, if not top-10, and he was there at 64. Maybe Seattle's just preparing for Howell in case he's there.
I like Howell in a trade back situation vs a stick and pick at 32. I did like how he came across in the Adams interview. I agree he’s likely got a ceiling higher than Mafe. I just think 32 is too soon for him. But if he is the pick at 32, I will love it! I’ll go back and watch his film again. I just finished watching Colton Hood’s film again. I now think he’s a stick and pick player for the Seahawks at 32.
Tomorrow it is! Let’s Go Seahawks!!!
(Edit - I just watched the other video’s on Howell you posted. 2 minute drill and Lombardi’s take. I’d be fine if he’s selected at 32)
I'll go on record that I like every prospect if you can still get him after trading back. I can't imagine there's a prospect who could go 32nd who couldn't also go 42nd. Or 52nd. If the Seahawks trade back from 32 to 40 and get Howell, I imagine they maybe added a 4th round pick. And that's good, they could use a 4th round pick.
I like the idea of trading back to about 43, especially if there’s no one they see as a borderline first round player. Miami has three third round picks. Trading back with them might give us two second round picks and two third round picks. Unless there’s someone they can’t live without at 32, we could get 4 quality players vs three.
Coach Scott's top 8.

Would prefer to pick up in 2nd round, but not totally disappointed at 32 if can't get proper or even very good value of a trade down.

The SEC defensive player of the year sounds like a nice pick up. Looking back at the last 10 years (including Howell)...and where they were drafted...
2024 |Kyle Kennard |4th round, 125th overall (Los Angeles Chargers) |South Carolina
2023 |Dallas Turner |1st round, 17th overall (Minnesota Vikings) |Alabama
2022 |Will Anderson Jr. |1st round, 3rd overall (Houston Texans) |Alabama
2021 |Will Anderson Jr. |1st round, 3rd overall (Houston Texans) |Alabama

You know I'm with you on more beef.

If I oversold his arm length, that's my mistake. I wrote 31".
Maybe Schneider's intel says he's going to fall to 64 and they could get Johnson and Howell.
Quibbling. Got that from NFL draft site. A distinction without a difference.
Maybe it could turn out to be one of those things where "Russel Wilson is 5'11, not 6', so he can't be a starter."

The Dolphins have so many top-100 picks that they could definitely be trying to consolidate with moving up.
That’s my hope. Get their middle (2nd) third round pick. I think 4 players on day two and one on day three will be plenty.
