Did you get anyone a Seahawks-related GIFT this year? Let's hear about some of your Seahawks presents in the replies...And we'll check back in on who RECEIVED any Seahawks presents later this week.
I am kind of down on Xmas as a gift giving thing, except for children. I don't buy Seahawks merch because it is criminally overpriced. I discourage friends and family from giving me gifts at any time. Personally, I give gifts when something screams to me: This would be a great gift for so and so. Then I buy it, and give it to the person unrelated to any occasion.
I am voluntarily poorish, and do not indulge in the American sport of buying crap I don't need. However, I feel rich because there is nothing I want that I don't have. The American poor are truly blessed.
Please excuse me for bumming anyone out. But sometimes I've just got to let it out.
Yeah this might be the first year we didn’t buy Christmas presents and I’ve never really been big on holidays or birthdays for gifts. I tend to lose track of what day it is.
The Upside for retiring is I now master my own schedule. I still work, just don't get paid for the work I do. More and more, if it feels like work, I won't do it. And hurrying is no longer a word I respond to. Me and my little 3 bedroom are going on 40 years. I am familiar with coupon shopping. I know all my neighbors and tolerate most of them. Merry Christmas, Pit.
Merry Christmas to you, too, JJ. I do respond to Pit since in high school everyone loved to give each other a shortened version of our names, and thus Pit was it for me.
I love retirement. Getting old sucks, but it also has its good side. I'm still looking for it, but I'm sure it's there.
Well, I offered to get Mrs. Rusty a bunch of Seahawks themed merch for Christmas, but she graciously declined my heart-felt offer. I still love her though. She at least watches the games with me. ;-)
Gotta tell ya, I didn’t understand how that Rams interception held up after review. When WR’s make a hands catch while they’re falling, the refs are always waiting to see if they shield the ball from touching the ground. If it touches the ground, it’s incomplete. Because they don’t have two feet down under possession
Hard to see how this int could hold up given the ball CLEARLY touched the ground.
Nothing to do with anything, but just watching the Broncos Bengals game and seeing Cody Barton making lots of tackles 4-5 yards after the line of scrimmage. Very Jerome Baker-like
Is it just me, or is Love another Geno except in the right surroundings?
Which as you’ve posited before, is a legitimate strategy to Always Win
Have a Geno or better, and put him in the right surroundings
Meaning if I have a beef with Schneider, it’s about the Right Surroundings. No one is perfect but there have been many expensive bets gone wrong (draft, trades and FA).
I do think he just did the ballsiest thing possible, and correctly, which was to move on from Carroll. And we’re in his first year of that BIG turning of the page. So I’m a bit more patient than most (I guess) and have seen The Dark Side too frequently with the QB-seekers. And now the stakes for a difference maker are $50m+.
So another Geno (like Love IMHO) is a legitimate move by GB but it/he will fail if outside of The Right Surroundings. So I keep coming back to that as the problem to solve, although Geno or better is table stakes and therefore at some point you will need that guy.
Thank JS for not drafting Richardson. He has horrible mechanics, can't read defenses, has happy feet in the pocket , if the 1st or 2nd options aren't open he takes off, he has major accuracy issues. In short he's Fields 2.0. Some draftniks mocked him to us.
Hopefully, we will find a franchise QB and not end up with Geno another season!
I am the only Seahawk fan in my circle, heck only one of a few in my area code! So, no gifts given. I uave all the Hawks gear I need, so none this year.
My wife and I have 7 kids together, and we both have always believed in making memories instead of spending too much money on "things" that will break or wear out their fun and usefulness in days. We have a tradition of getting the kids things like season passes to an amusement park, an inexpensive cruise, weekend of skiing, etc. The youngest is 18 and in college now, but this year, we still were able to take the youngest 3 to Cirque du Soleil and a murder mystery dinner. They have all expressed how grateful they are for all of the great times and amazing memories they have from over the years. It has been a great antidote for the superficial materialistic commonplace American Christmas bug. Merry Christmas (happy Christmas to those overseas) and happy holidays to you all!
I wanted to include some quotes from Gutenkunst in 2020 but then forgot.
“I haven’t connected with Aaron yet, but he’s obviously been through this and he’s a pro,” Gutekunst said, alluding to the Packers drafting Rodgers in 2005 and sitting him behind Brett Favre for three seasons. “I think it’s certainly something that is a long-term decision. I think when you go through kind of the way things went tonight, you run the short term and the long term.
On Love's development plan timeline:
“I don’t think you can put that on him right now,” Gutekunst said when asked how long it will take Love to be an NFL-caliber starter. “Right now I think he just needs to come in and learn and try to become the best quarterback he can be. We did draft him in the first round, so we like a lot about him.
“We think he has a very good upside to become a starter in the National Football League. But we’ve got the best quarterback in the National Football League and we plan to have him for awhile competing for championships. I can understand the fan base and people thinking, ‘Why would you do this at this time?’ But I just think the value of our board and the way it sat, it was the best for the Green Bay Packers and we’re really excited to get Jordan here and get him in the door and learning our system.”
On why not picking a WR or someone else:
“I know a lot of people will look at this as not a move for the immediate, and I understand that, but the balance of the immediate and the long term is something that I have to consider and that’s why we did it,” Gutekunst said. ” … Obviously, if there was a game-changer type player at another position, we would have seriously considered that. We didn’t feel that there was, so we picked Jordan and were really happy to do it. I think you can make mistakes thinking you’re one player away from anything.”
At the end of the day, the Packers did what the draft is SUPPOSED to do for teams: He ID'd a player he thought he had potential to carry the team some day so he used a fourth round pick to move up for him in the first round and decided that the risk of a QB was better than the "lower risk" of a player who might have a higher floor but also plays a position that could be easier to replace than QB. If the Packers didn't draft Love, where would they be right now with Rodgers? If Rodgers was anything like he's been the last 3 years, it seems pretty clear now that Green Bay would just be searching for a team that is willing to trade for him at all. Instead they don't have to think about QB for a long while at this rate.
It's not that teams should draft a 1st/2nd round QB every 5 years, but the Seahawks don't even draft one of those every decade. They barely do it once every 20 years and I simply don't get that.
Also, he may have thought that none of the available players at the so-called “need” positions were worth a first round draft pick. Anyway, how can you not need a QB?
Great article, Joe. As much as I like Geno and truly believe that all of his troubles aren’t solely his fault, I’m now in the camp that Seattle has to make a move at QB. Even if it’s risky or not safe. Whether it’s taking a shot in the draft, even though it’s not a great QB class, or attempting to sign someone like Sam Darnold (however I’m not sold on him being good yet after only one year). I think John’s gotta do it. Can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting different results.
Green Bay showed the guys something they needed to see. They brought that to the Vikes and found they can now stand toe to toe with The Best. Go polish the A Game Thursday in a full contact contest, let our young running backs bang, then take a week and a half to work out any remaining kinks. Easy Street. No problem. Turn off the Noise from the fretful. No more 'long season' crap. No more Rest and Weary talk. The Season is just getting started. Time to justify the Big Bucks. Merry Christmas! Send some Cheer to our kids in foxholes doing the truly Hard Work.
I am willing to admit the Hawks have missed opportunities, but what team hasn't? I mean, yes, I am not happy that the Rams have been able to restock their team with low round players who have overperformed their draft position. I wish we could say the same, but we really cannot honestly say that as a general rule.
However, this is another article which uses selective facts, and scenarios that prove the point you are trying to make. The question, "What could we do to win the SB in 25 or 26? That's a loaded question if I ever heard one. Maybe, there is no scenario that would bring us the trophy. OTOH, I could say fix the OL and this team would be there, period. Two decent guards might do the trick.
We are not so far away right now, this year, that I think that is realistic. How many scary teams are there in the NFL this year? None to my knowledge. Clean up the stupid mistakes and we can compete even with our current OL.
When this season began we were warned by everybody how difficult it would be to bring in a rookie coach without an enterage of coaches who would follow him to the team. We were told there would be too many mistakes in the first year of rookie coaches trying to implement a new system by the players learning that new system. That is exactly what is happening and you, SSJ, are trying to ignore all of that and draw conclusions from past Seahawks performance that major changes need to be made. Changes such as the QB for instance. That IS the definition of a major change to a team. I'm all for changing QB's when we have a direct line to a better QB. Or changes to the GM? I'm for that too, if we think we have a line to a better guy than JS. But in my uneducated opinion, that would be about as hard as finding a replacement QB. Or maybe not. I hope what's her name is keeping such a plan in mind and has hired advisors that are worth their weight in gold.
Do I wish Penix had been available in the last draft, and do I think we should have taken him if he was? Sure and Sure. But he wasn't. Neither was Nix. What should we have done differently?
I'm seeing this next Draft as MacD's first real outing. I feel the hiring of Earnest Jones was initiated with his strong urging. We get no indication they have issues with Geno, so we'll go one more year before selling the ranch to get into the early picks to acquire QB Greatness. I suspect Grubb will be heavily involved in O Line selections with no arguments from JS for the need to make it the main focus. SSJ makes a strong case for taking a QB, but not at the cost of athletic huge linemen. Ken has mentioned that inside info had Schneider trying hard to get Pete to agree on some damn good QBs who have now gone on to prove their worth. Was college ball so different 15 years ago that guys like Russ Wilson went ignored through the initial first and second rounds? It has been said that JS got good in GB in identifying great obscure QBs, as they've been fantastic doing it long before he was there and now, as we are seeing with Love. Maybe it's due to a group of Scouts, but they all must be damn old now. Then there's the radical changes to College Ball procedures. Where a guy played 4 years with one school, we are seeing them changing schools like their gym shorts. Apparently, many Seniors won't be playing in the Bowl games, as an injury will compromise their Draft standings.
Merry Christmas to all the SJ crew. It’s Christmas Day here in Australia already, so we’re already opening presents. I hope you all get the ones you want tomorrow. Unfortunately Seahawks gear is rare here, so it’s unlikely I’ll be getting any. Stay safe and have a wonderful Christmas y’all!
I recall making phone calls home from New Zealand, surprised to find there was only about a 4? hour time difference. We're not too far apart, really. Merry Christmas, Dale!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Excellent work on the title, imma go read the article now
Happy Holidays all!
Wishing everyone the best.
We got Seahawks sweatshirts for grandkids. Trying to shape a new generation of fans to fund Ken’s retirement years.

The media has gotten NFL recommendations for the draft as wrong as they have handled politics, especially making presidential picks🥵🥵
I feel you, Bro! Merry Christmas, Mike!
Right back at you!!!
Merry Christmas Dale! I have been in Australia for Christmas when I was very young.
Well, you’re an Aussie in my eyes then!
BTW, it’s 31 degrees Celsius today. Quite warm. Heading to 39 tomorrow. 😓
Dad lived in Brisbane for 20 years.
He’d know the heat then.
I recall making phone calls home from New Zealand, surprised to find there was only about a 4? hour time difference. We're not too far apart, really. Merry Christmas, Dale!
Merry. Christmas to you Jimmy. Yes, I think NZ is the first country to see each day.
