Well done on the assessment SJ.

I agree that Edge and CB would be a good choice for 2 of their first three picks. I would still like an OL for the 3rd if a good one is available.

Re McNeil-Warren:

“…will need to be protected by scheme to prevent speed mismatches…

The red flag of red flags. You can’t teach speed and sooner or later you can’t hide it. I can’t see MM willingly scheming to hide a DB with the slows. Next!

My life got better when:

1) I totally admitted both JS & PC were smarter than me &...

2) JS is WAY smarter than PC

Go 'Hawks. Don't ask me for any advice.

Nicholas Donsky's avatar

They will draft the BPA regardless of need. Let's remember that they basically have enough cap space to resign any player they want or FA. ( A Bs replacement if they want to keep Sam healthy. )

Not a good draft for QBs, RBs , With Charbs injury It's a no brainer they extend Walker. I hope all the changes in the coaching staff work out!

Let me post what will probably be an unpopular opinion.

I’m fine with Anthony Bradford being our starting right guard next season.

The Seahawks gave up 27 sacks in the regular season, which is 5th best in the league. Our O line developed cohesion as the season went on and the running game became a real thing. The team effectively ran in the playoffs.

I see no Gray Zabel type of IOL in this upcoming draft, and the history of free agent guards in the league is not good. If a team has a good one, they keep him.

I don’t believe offensive linemen are “plug and play” (Zabel was the exception to that). Bradford is still young, and let’s be honest, he’s gotten better.

Is he great? No. But he’s good enough to win a Super Bowl with. One where Walker ran wild. That doesn’t happen without an effective line. The Seahawks have one, and it’s still young.

steve illman's avatar

No he hasn't. Still stands there and watches people rush past him.

Paul G's avatar

I have zero problem going forward with Bradford in the absence of a clear and obvious upgrade. When it comes to the OL, continuity is especially important.

Charley Filipek's avatar

Like this, Rusty. Seems like some of the other O-Line Players like Bradford. Here's hoping he keeps improving. He'll certainly be grateful and do all that he can. Year after year improvement. Go For It, Mr. Anthony !

Paul G's avatar

Here’s the thing. Jobe’s late hit was miles more egregious that Woolen’s taunting. The difference was refs with good sense.

Soapbox: Taunting is a b.s. penalty that is—to put it kindly—enforced inconsistently. Make it a fine if it’s that big a deal. But penalizing an entire team? H.s.

Shaymus McFamous's avatar

I do agree, but the old "protect the shield" which = "protect the public image of our product" mentality is still a part of the owners' focus. Taunting is an optic that conjures up bully images in a lot of people. They absolutely don't want to turn the casual fan off, so as much as we may not care about it, the league probably always will.

Paul G's avatar

My belief is that penalties are preventive measures that have two purposes: (1) to keep a team from taking unfair advantage and (2) to minimize injuries. There are other ways to protect the shield.

Take away Anthony Bradford's 8 worst plays of the season and he actually looks pretty solid. But the problem is those 8 plays cost us games...With that said, I'm not a hundred percent sure there's a great option in round 1 to upgrade AB. I'm Def leaning towards secondary in R1. The WR pool has interesting choices, lots of variety in type of receivers. I could see our 4 picks being 3 defensive players and a WR or RB. I kinda don't think we're gonna draft o line, which is disappointing and also probably OK, we just won the SB with AB so....I really like Kyle Louis, he just looks locked in. He processes info and formulates quality plans quickly and executes with focus. That's one of my skills I look for first in players. Some call it 'reaction' or 'instincts'...but really it's the process of recognizing what's happening and formulating a plan and then executing it. I look for players that react quickly and play faster than their listed speeds in various races or drills. Anyway...go Hawks! Let's four peat!

Shaymus McFamous's avatar

Not 1, not 2, not 3... sounding a little like LeBron over there

Paul G's avatar

With AB, the Hawks were 17-3 and won the SB. A marginal upgrade at RG is not worth the loss of continuity.

The Oregon kid has some intriguing hype and would be an interesting add. I expect our top pick will be in the d-line where we have the most aging vets beyond next year.

Charley Filipek's avatar

Wow! paired with Witherspoon and Emmanwori, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren

... would make some superb trio. Can't Touch This.

I love the premise of this article, as I think ILB and Safety are two of the three position groups that make most sense for a day two pick, the other being IOL. All three of these position groups have a history of producing rookie starters from day two picks.

Without a 4th or 5th round pick, our first three picks also seem more likely to be traded back. It's so hard to guess what a GM will do in the draft prior to knowing their free agent acquisitions. Happy offseason everyone!

Bob Bryan's avatar

Seems to me it’s D-line and Edge. The team is built on the best 4-man rush in the league. We may lose Chenna, Mafe, Reed, and older players like Leo and D-Law are by definition more injury prone. Riley looks great but has yet to play a full healthy season - unproven. We need 1-2 more players in this mix, draft or free agency.

Cornerback - we play 3 consistently, Riq is gone, no depth here. Obviously we have to re-sign Jobe or we’re starting over. Another Nick Emm would be awesome, but seems like a nice-to-have as an early pick. ILB, maybe, but we have a 3 man group that seems pretty solid - draft a marginal upgrade?

Receiving - I am as hopeful as anyone for Horton and Arroyo, but let’s face it, they came in injured and spent a chunk of the season injured. We grabbed Rashid because we couldn’t count on those guys, and he still wasn’t really a clear WR2. Coop is WR3 at this point, with some great intangibles. So - unless we’re all-in on Horton, we need a WR2.

If we assume Coby is gone, I agree on Safety as a need area. Such an important role in Mac’s D, and we clearly needed the 3 man rotation this year. Not sure it’s another Nick Emm, but maybe a day two Coby-type? Note - he took a few years to develop.

Also, I am counting on JS having the pick-of-the-litter in the free agent market. Lots of guys will want to come play on this team and this defense. The D-Law story will stand out.

Chris H's avatar

I have no doubt that JS and MM will just grab terrific football players, and let the position groups work themselves out. DB would be my biggest worry if Jobe, Woolen, and Bryant don't come back.

Not sure if everyone realized, but we are Super Bowl Champions.....still! And we will be for many months to come. John could draft 4 figure skaters and I'd still be optimistic going into the season (please don't do this John).

John will throw a few curveballs at us before the draft. FA signing or two, a trade....something will happen. I don't think he'll do extensions right away for JSN and Spoon, but those will ultimately get done. I'd hate to see one or both of them hold out from OTA's or Camp, but they'd have every right to.

John A Irvine's avatar

I bet if JSN put his mind to it, he would be a great ice skater. He is just so graceful. But please no ice skaters.

BEASTMODE808's avatar

He should/could break from his past tendencies of not extending players IF they are 1st or 2nd team all-pro. That should be reason enough.

Paul G's avatar

This was a Paul Allen absolute. From what I’ve heard, Jody Allen is no different.

Chris H's avatar

And he may for the right players.

Chris H's avatar

And JSN and Spoon may be the right players.

Don Ellis's avatar

There are reports from Shefter the Hawks are going to make a run at extending JSN now. Spoon, I think, will receive the 5th year option.

zezinhom400's avatar

Don’t want to let Super Bowl euphoria cloud my judgment but I’m leaning into Derick Hall more and more. He literally destroyed Will Campbell on national TV and although that may not be such a high hurdle, it’s what you want to see when up against a weak spot. You want to see domination and that’s what we saw

Plus, Schneider had a R1 grade on him and in that manner was almost another Emmanwori-type pick, everyone so excited about the pick. So I think the g.m. Believes in him.

I know he’s still not fully a monster on the edge yet, but sure feels like he’s a handful for most offenses, and I think DeMarcus has been a tremendous influence, so I can’t wait to see him next year. He’s won out over Mafe in my mind, to my great surprise

Randall Murray's avatar

Go back Zez. I pointed this out before SB. I’m at the game and see Hall doing that throughout the playoffs and as season progressed. Wasn’t getting “home” per se, but his arm length and power were clear. All Pro stud OT for the Whiners was rocked back multiple times in that game. Was awesome to see. I’m hopeful 2026 is what we’ve been waiting for from him.

Largentium's avatar

I think we definitely want him in the lineup. I'm just not sure he can be totally relied upon, and maybe they draft someone to replace Mafe and Hall (420 snaps) ends up with a snap total more like Mafe (561) or Nwosu (583)

JIMMY JOHNSON's avatar

I can see edge players taking more time to develop, if only to strengthen and bulk up while maintaining essential speed and agility. Guys are still growing at 24/25.

Another name about which I know little, CB Julian Neal, Arkansas. Someone saw him at the Senior Bowl and said he looked like a Seahawk. I dunno nothing.

One of the problems (problems?) with winning the Super Bowl is you get a very VERY late start on the post season. Last year, missing the playoffs entirely, I was working on the off season (draft/free agency) right from the get go. I watched almost all the videos and read the articles coming out of the senior bowl. I had my own big board for the draft and list of free agents to target. It was fun, but ultimately not very accurate. Besides, I go immediately all in with every acquisition by JS/MM. I hate hearing a Seahawk expert say something like “Arroyo? Really? I wasn’t that high on Arroyo.” (Yeah Arroyo wasn’t spectacular this year, but I was high on him the minute he was drafted and I’m still high on him becoming a big contributor in 2026. I mean, we have a TE coach as OC! Anyway, I’ve decided to be more passive about it this year and just absorb the info flowing in articles like this one from SSJ to gain knowledge about the possibilities. I won’t judge with the exception of what the Seahawks decide to do. My first judgement of the offseason is I give an “A” for the hire of Fleury. Coming out of left field given the initial comments that looked like an internal hire was expected, even by the internal decision makers, I feel he must have blown them away with what he said and his vision for the Seahawk offense. GO HAWKS!

JIMMY JOHNSON's avatar

A benefit of having a new OC every year is nobody will have any prior tendencies to plan against when they come up against us. Much of our efforts on offense were "Make-Do" with most of the contributions coming from Defense. Only against teams who can't score points do we win off Field Goals. My guess is Schneider will still be looking into offensive selections heavily again this Draft.

Bob Bryan's avatar

Hammock looks like the OC-in-waiting. They hoped they had one in-house this year, but no. Next year, maybe a clearer choice.

Grant Alden's avatar

I have a small board. It’s really small right now. Coming in late, as well.

Danno's avatar

The draft is still a long way off. Combine right around the corner.
