Seahawks final cuts primer
Cutting the 90-man roster to 53 by going in 3 levels: Virtually-certain, probably certain, and bubble decisions
The Seahawks made their first move of the week on Monday, releasing linebacker Alphonzo Tuputala two weeks after adding him to the roster mid-training camp. Bob Condotta noted that he believes Tuputala impressed coaches, implying a potential return to the practice squad.
Seattle started the day with 91 players, so parting with Tuputala gets them down to 90, just about 24 hours before the Seahawks need to be down to 53. That means that 37 more players have to get the bad news, so let me help prime Seahawks fans for who will be among the 37 (or more) by breaking it down into 3 categories:
The Virtually-Certain Cuts
The “We could see why” Cuts
The Bubble Decisions
The easiest thing to do at the beginning is get the 91 man roster down to 68 players by covering the virtually-certain cuts, then we’ll find out how hard it is to trim it by 15 more names after that. At the end, I’ll assess what a 17-player practice squad (with one International player exception) could look like too.
