I personally think Pete Carroll would have a better chance of keeping his head coach job if he surrendered to the reality of the rebuild. This one foot in, one foot out thing doesn't make much sense. At least not to me. Why mortgage or inhibit the future, even a bit, to win an extra game or two in a year when the Hawks clearly aren't making a playoff run?
Good summation. I still see no way that we don't add linebacker help. Just one of our starters misses a quarter of a game it could be disaster. Are they working on a deal for Smith from Chicago ? My speculation.

The 53 is not a big surprise, given that the last four or five guys are always bubble guys and subject to change at any moment. Sad to see Marquise Blair fall to the wayside, he had so much potential, but with the injuries and missed time, he never seemed to pick up his assignments. With the exception of a clear WR3, and some depth at ILB, the roster seems OK except for the QB, which is like saying that the German Panzer Corp was OK except they had no fuel for their tanks. I can't see any way with Geno or Lock that we can win more than three or four games. My biggest question is the coaching staff... something was seriously wrong with this team this pre-season, an absurd amount of unforced errors and sloppy uninspired play. Pete, Hurtt and Waldron will have to outcoach their opponents to win consistently, and with LA and SF so superior in coaching to Pete and staff, it is going to be very frustrating to watch unless Hurtt and Waldron were keeping all their skills under wraps. As Seahawks fans, we know that landing another HoF QB in the draft is our only path back to glory.
Is Reid there to hold a spot for Trey Brown or are they assuming one of Jones, Burns, or Brown will always be injured? I'd be stunned if a linebacker isn't added. Pete/John haven't been shy about admitting their mistakes and moving on from draft picks and I doubt John gives a rat's petuti about what you and I think so Collier is a curious decision. Joe's take is the most logical answer but how can they know if he's improved since he hasn't played? Thinking about Bo Melton, Johnson, Fuller for the practice squad, I became curious if any practice squad receiver has ever made a significant offensive contribution for any team? I can't think of one.
