In the quest to put the most talented five offensive linemen on the field, I'm surprised more effort wasn't expended training Lewis as a center. He seemed to do pretty well when he was the emergency center last year. Moving Haynes to left guard and Lewis to center seems like an experiment worth trying. Austin Blythe would be a fine backup.

Ray Roberts says that the ‘Hawks should be shooting for what he calls “Ph. D.’s” at the OL positions—that drafting players for versatility amounts to drafting backups. You could make the same argument about training lineman at different positions—e.g., developing Lewis at center is time spent not improving him at guard.

I see your point but I'm talking about a permanent move, not added versatility.

Where do you get a dataset of "winners and losers" articles written over time? Whoever spent the time creating that graph goes in my losers column. Of course that person is only a loser for that one act and my be winner in many other ways. I like how winners and losers can be judged over any period of time that we choose to evaluate. You can be a winner for the year but a loser in game 3. You can be a loser in high school but a winner in life.

In the context of the NFL it's no different that charting the current/projected performance of a stock. The best teams have a roster turnover of 50% from season to season. A quarter of the league has a 70% turnover. Players are a commodity.

The over/under for the number of changes to the 53 prior to week 1 has to be, what, 2.5? Some changes almost certainly in the LB group, WR room?

Prior to week 1, as in players placed on IR (Collier?) or players cut to make room for others claimed on waivers I agree 2.5 is a good number. The next step is to consider week four when players on ir or reserve pup can be activated.

Good to see a very strong draft class this season. A bunch of starters for sure. Man, there hasn't been much in the cupboards before this season! I'm really excited to see Walker, Woolen, and Mafe the most, but our new tackles should provide some good stuff, too. Go Hawks!

Myers is something of a head scratcher. Could have likely been cut and re-signed at a lower price. But it shows that Pete trusts the guy even though we've lost games on his leg. In a year when wins (and points) are almost certain to be scarce, he's willing to let a lot ride on his four million dollar man.
