My Seahawks salary cap: A plan to create the most space going into free agency
All the cuts and Seahawks free agent decisions to give Seattle the best roster and most cap space going into free agency: Seaside Joe 1826
NFL free agency starts in less than two weeks on March 13 and the Seahawks could end up making a lot of changes given that they have a new head coach, almost completely brand new staff below him, and practically a new GM.
I expect more changes than most and believe that if the Seattle Seahawks are going to return to Super Bowl form then they first must accept who they are right now: Which is a team that will not likely contend for the Super Bowl in 2024. If the Seahawks have accepted that, which I think they have given the transition from Pete Carroll to Mike Macdonald, then “tough” decisions become relatively easy with clear answers.
It’s time to accept change. With the following moves, I will get the Seahawks to $50 million in cap space after cuts and $28.5 million going into free agency after re-signing certain players and letting others walk. There will be needs, but nothing that John Schneider can’t handle with ease. This is the most comprehensive and rational Seattle free agent plan that you will find and I believe it puts the franchise in a very good position two weeks from now, then going into the draft.
It’s imperative you also consider supporting Seaside Joe, a completely independent Seahawks writer doing content like this for fans every single day for the last five years (as seen in the many linked posts below that prepared us for an article like this one), with as little as $5 per month for bonus content, archive access, and the ability to comment. I’ve only seen Seahawks free agency plans that seem too ‘fan-friendly’ to me and I think there’s a need for someone like Seaside Joe to take the more cutthroat/objective approach. Now I’d add that the Seahawks probably do have a track record for being more ‘fan-friendly’ than I would have been, so we will see in less than two weeks what the actual outcome is but maybe it’ll fall somewhere in between them and me.
