Thoughts on last Sunday. Seattle was over confident against the Rams. The Rams got after it right from the start and never took their feet off the gas. McVay outcoaches Pete and his staff after halftime/game (familiar theme). Adjustment is not just a Chiropractic term. Seattle looked like they were suffering from sometimers disease. They looked completely lost and disoriented from the second quarter and progressively worse throughout the 2nd half. Dealing with adversity was non-existent.

Seattle to Detroit. Talk about both ends of the spectrum. Seattle is a 6.5 underdog and I expect that to increase a bit. Signing Peters who no one else was interested in speaks volumes. There are no choices that are good ones. Not signing Fant looks like an error as some insurance. Seattle needs everyone to show up this week. Even if they lose they need to instill some confidence and continuity. Respectable is all I'm looking for this week. I don't expect Seattle to win. I do expect them to look a lot more like the team we expected to see.

Witherspoon will help on D but they all need to get on the same page. Pass rush is a priority. Don't regress against the run.

Offensively they need to incorporate the backs and TE much more. Don't run any screens you don't know how. Passes have to be 5 yards or more. Take what the defense gives you but don't let the offense be subject to their every whim. Get first downs instead of looking for the magic bullet.

Be physical not stupid. Seattle looks like the punks of the gridiron after DK's to common antics. Let's do it in front of the TV camera to get some national exposure. Other teams will use that.

Clint Hurt has tried on the field, and now the press box for his viewing perspective. Perhaps the parking lot might offer some insight.

Seattle is not a terrible team. There is way to much talent out there to be humiliated like they were on Sunday. I hope that works to their benefit this week.

I still think that because so many players did little in preseason the lack of cohesiveness and readiness showed. I think this week is a preparation for a get well game back home in week 3.

When I was in sales I had a trainer who used to say "If it is to be, it's up to me." Each player and coach in that locker room needs to do a little soul searching and don a blue collar attitude and get to work. You know Campbell's guys will have their lunch buckets on Sunday, and they'll be hungry.

I also think some people are searching for people to blame in what they feel to be a shocking loss. And backup tackles seems to be an easy option. But in a low possession game it was not the tackles. It was Geno deciding to throw deep on 3rd and 4. It was DK dropping the first down on second and 8. And it was DK taunting on 2nd and 2.

When you have 4 possessions in a half those plays impact the outcome far more than giving up a pressure on 3rd and 26.

I do not think that it is a good sign that we are signing Peters. However, I did not see the game lost by the tackles. I counted 1-2 pressures maybe 3 at most given up by Curhan and one of them was from him having the wrong snap count. Additionally, I thought he played great at the end of the 2021 season as a strong run blocking lineman. That was the time period where Penny went off to end the season. Part of that was Curhan, imo. Unfortunately, we had a run first team back then and he is not as good in pass pro.

I've always thought that Stone was the bigger disappointment. Certainly, he played better than Curhan on Sunday, but that is a microscopic amount of snaps.

I think it's funny that people are blaming the tackles, really didn't see that being the main issue. DK was far more to blame than Curhan for the second half (Taunting and dropped possible first down). The line played good during the first two drives and then Curhan gave up a pressure on 3rd and 8 ... the play before? Dropped first down from DK. The other play attributed to him I guess? Pressure straight up the middle on 2nd and 17 (Haynes). Maybe Curhans guy gets the sack but maybe not if Geno can step up.

Maybe Curhan isn't good enough to play at this level. But he has before and was decent to pretty good if I recall correctly. Don't get me wrong, Lucas is much better especially in pass pro. But this guy has not been terrible in the past.

Games started by Curhan at the end of 2021:

Houston

Yards/Carry: 6.7 (Penny 137 and 2 TD)

Sacks: 0 given up

33-13 final score (WIn)

Rams

Yards/Carry: 4.2 (Dallas 41 and 1 TD)

Sacks: 3 given up

10-20 final score (Loss)

Bears

Yards/Carry: 7.1 (Penny 135 and 1 TD)

Sacks: 2 given up

24-25 final score (Loss)

Lions

Yards/Carry: 6.5 (Penny 170 and 2 TD)

Sacks: 1 given up

51-29 final score (Win)

Cardinals

Yards/Carry: 6.7 (Penny 190 and 1 TD)

Sacks: 1 given up

38-30 final score (Win)

If Peters comes in and starts over Curhan ... That will tell us (me) all we need to know to about him: he stinks. And I will readily admit all this is a far-fetched fantasy that was wrong. But if he starts, watch out for the Seahawk run game.

Week one of the 2023 NFL season is in the books. Unpredictable outcomes, hope, elation, catastrophe and despair abound.

The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray.

Skimming comments from various Seahawks blogs, I see so many folks calling for Pete's head. With that putrid effort and loss Sunday, the reactions are predicable in a sense. Seems that many people were on the fence with Pete despite the surprising success of last season without Russell Wilson. This loss really tipped the fence over to get rid of him after just one game into the long season. If the team would have won big and the score was reversed, would the reaction be the same? No way. We would be in elation and thoughts towards Mecca as Jacson Bevens wrote. But, such it is with every week pulling and pushing our emotions way or another. The blogger at SDB said that many people have only known Pete as the coach and may be too scared of change. Well, as someone who has been old enough to have been present and aware enough to be a fan back at the inaugural season, I have a big picture view of this era. Those of us my age have seen it all. The newness and innocent climb at the start during the Zorn/Patera era, the Chuck Knox years, Ken Behring era, Holmgren era, the Jim Mora year, and the present Pete/John era. I'm in no hurry to depart from this era. It's been the best of times. The era will come to an end for Pete sooner than later. He's at an age where retirement is inevitable. The Pete haters or those that really want to see him go will get their wish. The haters are the ones to me that want to see him actually get fired. Nope. He doesn't deserve that. He's built up enough cache and success that he can go out on his own terms. If the season turns into a dreadful affair, we'll see what happens. But, in the meantime, I'm just savoring this era at the present moment. So much will happen during these coming months. I love Pete. I wish my boss was like him. I wish my manager was like him. Heck, I wish my parents were like him. He's one of a kind and we probably won't see the likes of someone like him again. When it comes to a change, be careful what you wish for....

"The blogger at SDB said that many people have only known Pete as the coach and may be too scared of change."

I read that and cracked up. It's actually the exact opposite of what he claimed. The fan base exploded during Pete Carroll and the LOB reign. Those are the fans that are calling for his head because of his success. In a league built on parity through various mechanisms (draft, salary cap, etc) he has only 1 losing season! That is crazy. I don't know if we will ever see that again from any team/coach.

The fans that have lived with the Seahawks since the 90s are in no rush to move on from Pete, me included and especially not 1 game after a year in which he should have been coach of the year and year 2 into a multi-year rebuild that is going very well (drafts).

Forsythe (sp) looked OK at least last Sunday, But Curhan (sp) was abysmal! Let's hope none of these injuries are for very long.

Does it feel to others that the wheels are spinning off or is it just me?

Nah.

Honestly I think this was a young team that thought they were in for an easy game and got slapped hard. It's maybe the best thing that could happen to them. You see it in college ball all the time. My alma mater team has silver helmets, and they are usually very good and often dominant. But you can't just 'roll out the sliver helmets' and take the win--you always have to earn it.

But... Wagz in coverage is not something that is going to work. They need Witherspoon covering those over the middle routes.

I hope you're right. There is a human tendency toward optimism.

I don't doubt we'll get back to the middle of the NFL. I've never seen a Pete Carroll team that got walked over all season except for maybe the year Wilson was injured. But I'm having trouble imagining this as a team that scares any of the dominant teams.

The offense has all kinds of potential--even with the OT injuries. It might mean more 2TE sets or Bobo has a hybrid TE/WR (YES!) in order to give Geno time and space, but it can be planned for.

The D is going to look a lot different with Witherspoon and/or Adams (if he is close to 100%) out there.

Yeah, I am optimistic by nature but also (I think) realistic. Talent does win out even if you have to suffer the rookie mistakes.

Two opposite reactions to the Jason Peters news:

Frightened Zezinho: Watching 38-yr old turnstyle Duane Brown against the Bills

Hopeful Zezinho: Watching 40-yr old Andrew Whitworth retiring and being glad about it, bc at age 40 was still killing our rush ends and roadgrading on sweeps

I would be happy with somewhere in-between, happiness commensurate with distance towards Whitworth

I’d rather see 41 YO Jason Peters than either Curhan or Forsyth, if it’s gonna be more than a series or two.

Turf toe sounds so minor, but it keeps players from being able to push their opponent and takes time to heal. Not a long term concern, but a near term bummer.

Really good point. Seattle needs to get a natural grass field as soon as possible. Inside the Kingdome there was no choice. But it's a real option at Lumen.

Doggone Turf ! Our son played Ultimate Frisbee in a tourney in Austin, Texas when it was really hot 'n said the thermometer registered 160*. All players had to sub out after a point just to cool their feet down. Grass is So much better with fewer injuries.

The best of those 2013 first rounders to play for Seattle was DJ Fluker, without doubt! He had a great personality and was a kick-ass G.

Why not? It could be 2013 all over again lol! Honestly Flukes was a BAMF as a G and if he has taken care of his body he is a guy that could likely still make a contribution. Smart. Tough. Fun. I would punch that ticket!
