Seahawks re-sign Noah Fant
Noah Fant returns to Seahawks on two-year, $21 million deal, 3/11/2024
The Seattle Seahawks made their first signing of the week, retaining tight end Noah Fant on a two-year, $21 million contract. After seeing Colby Parkinson sign with the Rams and Will Dissly make a deal with the Chargers, keeping Fant became a higher priority and the Seahawks were able to do it on reasonable terms.
I had not projected Fant to re-sign with the Seahawks mostly due to the fact that he could test the market—which obviously he did—and find that there was an offense that would utilize him more than Seattle did in the past two years. Fant saw all of his numbers go down compared to his three years with the Denver Broncos. However, with Parkinson and Dissly out of the way, Fant defaults into the number one tight end…which he was already but now he is the only clear option.
The Seahawks still have a need at the tight end position after losing Parkinson and Dissly, but at least now they don’t have three needs.
Fant didn’t score a touchdown in 2023, something that offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb will need to rectify in order to justify the $10.5 million annual salary for the tight end. He caught 32 passes for 414 yards and with Tyler Lockett agreeing to a lower salary, it probably creates a showdown between the Seahawks WR3 and TE1 to be third in line for targets next season behind DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Seattle should have had over $54 million in cap space going into the day and this signing might cost $6-$8 million in 2024 cap hit. There’s plenty of money left to spend and one place to do it would be at linebacker.
Former Seahawks linebacker Jordyn Brooks signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Miami Dolphins.
“…but now he is the only clear option.”
Re-signing Fant says that the Hawks are prepared to roll with Bobo at #3 WR. Plus, there’s no longer a positional need to draft a TE or a WR.
Damn. Lost Brooks at a pretty reasonable price.
Guess that means big money for Queen.
