The date you need to know for Geno Smith’s future with the Seattle Seahawks: March 20, 2025.
That’s when Geno earns a $10 million roster bonus if he’s still on the team, which just like earlier this year is when fans knew that the Seahawks weren’t making a change at quarterback in 2024 once they guaranteed his earnings. Seattle paid him such a bonus once, so of course they’re going to do it again, right?
I don’t believe so.
Some are going to argue that the Seahawks are going to make their Geno decision based on talent and value. It’s partly about that, but it’s not really about that.
Others are going to argue that the Seahawks will make the decision based on money: $25 million saved in cash and 2025 salary cap. It’s partly about that, but again, not really. (Seahawks upcoming salary cap decisions explained here.)
And trading Geno Smith? I don’t find that to be an option and a lot of writers seem to be missing the point because they’re getting distracted by what’s happening on social media and arguing who is at fault for interceptions instead of reading the writing on the memory-stripped walls.
No, the reason that I think Geno Smith will be cut is as simple as something that has dominated civilization for centuries and applies no differently to NFL quarterbacks than it does to YOU at YOUR JOB and in YOUR INDUSTRY:
