If you have any Seahawks-related breakdowns, Xs and Os, that kind of thing that you've seen online, either a video or a podcast or a website, please send it my way. I have a few cocked and ready to go, including several by All_22, but always looking for more.
For me, it's too soon to say on extensions. My only thought is without DK, there would be no more entertaining personalities. I miss the players being as vivid as they were in the past.
I can't remember any. Last year, Leonard Williams would've been the situation to do that like the Bears did but it didn't even sound like the Seahawks considered it.
With that, I would really doubt anything changes during the season. Before the season, Mike Florio wrote a short sighted article that the Seahawks had no reason to do anything with Geno. Probably because he doesn't understand how good Geno is. Of course, there was incentives for both sides to get an extension: Geno would get significantly more guaranteed money, The Seahawks would get their competitive advantage over the NFC by getting a QB significantly better than his salary cap.
It's funny that many Seahawks fans told me that Geno would be cut in 2025 because of a salary cap hit nearing $40M. How wrong were they??? Seahawks would love to get Geno for $40M or less but that ship has sailed. Daniel Jeremiah is already talking about Geno north of $50M.
Which was the whole reason to extend Geno before the season. It's fine that JS passed, and Brady Henderson said he has a policy to not extend prior to final year. But this is now the result of passing that the QB became more expensive.
I would also say that this is not the time period to let your QB go. The Hawks are hitting their SB window. The difference in talent between Geno and Sam Howell is (probably) massive. Look at what Jaden Daniels is doing with the Commanders. That is not a good sign for Howell. And I do not want to spin the rookie QB roulette wheel and hope to hit.
If it comes to Geno or DK (I can't see DK getting north of $32M) you got to go with Geno assuming it is within reason, IMHO. However, I think they will end up extending both if the season were to end today. Lots can change between now and the end of the year. So they will most likely hold tight and let it all play out.
Back in the LOB years there were several extensions late in the season (December). Could happen with maybe Dodson this year I am thinking, or any of the other guys on 1 year contracts. Not Geno or DK though.
Re Flores defense: From my understanding (glimpses of what I've seen on the internet and from watching Hawks games and occasional Vikings games), Flores defense shares some similar ideas to the Macdonald defense (stack many defenders near the line of scrimmage to threaten blitz, stunts, etc.), but the way they call is different. Macdonald goes for simulated pressures more where they have 3 or 4 rushers from one side and 1 or even none on the other to really stress the O-line's communication and protection scheme, while Flores runs more of a cat and mouse guessing game with the O-line and QB of whether they all-out blitz or drop 8 into coverage. My personal opinion is that Macdonald's defense is more backend-focused where the QB has to read what coverage the backend rotated to post-snap giving the dline more time to sack him, while Flores is more front7-focused where the QB has to make a decision really quickly on whether to throw to hot in case of 0-blitz or try to make a tight-window throw in the case of drop-8, where a wrong decision either way by the QB will lead to a sack or potential pick.
Geno strikes me as a man who is stacking his riches for post-career days. I've seen guys get the big bucks and effort disappears. He's in this now for respect. For doing something unique, keeping the manuscript secret. His stated retirement would have him as a QB Coach, no doubt preferably here in Seattle. (Probably a Pete Promise) In these times of obscene contracts, the need for over-the-hill veteran QBs will be great. Who better to teach old dogs new tricks? If JS is bought into this, then life is just beginning for our QB. I wonder if Tyler found him a house to make a home in, or something he could easily flip?
Extensions will be dependent on the players health and how they finish the season production wise. Is there a good guard available in trade? I would hate to see this season ruined for the lack of a guard. To paraphrase Bill Shakespeare, " My kingdom for a guard."
Wait on Geno till 25. DK is going to be expensive, might save some money extending him now. There aren't many ( any ) recievers that are 6'4', 235 lbs. that run a sub 4/3 40.
Is it just me or do others see OC Grubb basically running the Mike Leach Air Raid passing game.?
Let's realize that Myer's misses have been on conversions, making it an easier call to go with a 2 point try. Cold math would take this into consideration.

Has JS ever extended a contract mid-season?

Good insight and a nice comparison. Thanks, Jeremy!
The little bit of the Vikings/Packers game I saw made me think the Vikings D looks a lot like the Seahawks.
I hate to say this aloud, but another reason why the Seahawks have incentive to wait on the Geno Smith extension? There is always an injury risk . . .

I have become trusting of JS- just hope he is smart when it comes to DK-
We need to trade DK, if at all possible. He is not a team player and it is evident.
