Don't pay a QB for a market he can't prove exists
The Seahawks should let Geno Smith seek a trade before they agree to anything on a new contract
I am cautiously optimistic that NFL teams (other than the 49ers and Rams) are wising up to the reality that quarterbacks are overpaid and overdrafted. Especially overpaid…It doesn’t bother me that quarterbacks are overdrafted.
And it shouldn’t bother Seahawks fans if quarterbacks are overpaid, so long as none of them are Geno Smith.
Based on what we’ve seen transpire this week with Matthew Stafford, it’s clear what Seattle has to do before making any deals with Geno: Let him seek a trade.
While Stafford’s contract terms on a revised deal to stay in L.A. are not yet known to the public, it is fair to assume that his raise is somewhere in the realm of “acceptable” because if the Raiders or Giants had gone above and beyond for the 37-year-old then he probably would have been traded this week.
Even if the Rams did go above and beyond for Stafford, he’s only one quarterback and he’s still considered by some to be one of the top-5 in the league.
