Seattle does value its special teams. Highest paid punter, a not cheap kicker, and now highest paid returner. This is not a complaint. I actually think the kickoff return units strength has gained value with the rule changes. Anyway, Schnieder is on a hell of a run in general however this move pans out.
I think this contract starts with the MVS failure, continues through JS pining for him, and then the draft picks with the indicator that they had to outbid other teams then. And then he got here and delivered. No shaheed, almost surely no Super Bowl. They were close to pot-committed on him. Also, crucially, he’s healthy and TH isn’t and may never be. As far as overpay, Doubs got 4/80m. Receivers are expensive.
How would I grade this move? TBD. If he produces next year similar to what he produced this year's it's an obvious overpay. If he produces like a true #2 receiver........one that stretches the field as a true down field threat, then perhaps it's a bargain going forward.
Its not easy to join a new team halfway through the season. As a receiver, it is harder than anyone except QB. A full off season and a clear role from day one will be good for Shaheed

$5mil more reported guarantees than Walker is getting from the Chiefs, and given the vast vast gap in player valuation between RB and WR it makes Shaheeds deal make a lot more sense. And as i've said before, Shaheed I expect to be a lot more integrated into the complete offence in 2026. He offers a deep speed threat (how close was he in that SB to getting multiple 50yd+ TD's by just gassing the Pats DB's?!) we otherwise don't have (Horton is an injury question, but hopefully he comes back good and does well as well). At New Orleans he proved that aspect of his game is there, and if you consider his stats with allowing for those near misses from either DPI's (a few phenomenal plays by Gonzalez) or Darnold overthrow by a few yards, and we threw the ball deep so little in the back end of the year, he flashed the ability with us too.
He's also a Special special teamer. And he's usable as a motion option, as a sweep option, that we definitely do not otherwise have. This is a deal built on what he should offer over the next two years, not what he offered on the half season (but i mean, if you said the Hawks could buy a SB for $51mil i'd say yes please).
Kupp was always a weird keep to me. I assumed that was an obvious cut for the team. But lets assume Fluery is hyped to run a more open offence like we saw from Kubiak prior to the first Rams game. Plus Kupp's value showed up in the clutch.
You get to make deals like this off the back of smart moves elsewhere. Bryant & Mafe combine for more than this deal. As i started with, it's kind of marginally more than Walker is getting, but positionally adjusted it's less. Let alone all the other comps you can make as saves (Sundell vs Linderbaum, Darnold vs most QB deals like Jones or the Dolphins, Barner vs Likely).
Love it. Bring it on. Shaheed is back and i couldn't be happier. I like the deal, like what he offers. Let's go! What a WR room we have!
Brock Huard made a really interesting observation yesterday. The guys we re-signed (Jobe and Shaheed) both have played on other NFL teams. They know what it's like outside of the VMAC. They know how special it is in Seattle. The 3 guys we lost, have not had that experience. They have nothing to compare to.

TBF I really like the move from the Raiders. They need to support Mendoza so getting the best Center to hit free agency in years is a smart use of cap space. Plus Linderbaum specializes in the run game and the Raiders have Jeantt. This has the markings of a smart move that improves the team, even at cost.

A year ago, we said buh-bye to Geno, DK and Tyler. We brought in a QB that had never won a playoff game. I trust there is plan for Rashid. Should have given all the moves last year an A so I will trust JS/MM and give this and the other moves an A. As some have already pointed out, this is as much a special team move as one for the offense. There is something to be said for when you can plan on starting most of you drives on the 35 yard line.
Kick returning is a good thing when they give him a chance. It may be that they all kick it away and then we get to start at the 35. Which is as good as a return to the 35.

Now imagine what will be possible when he and Darnold have a full off season together to gel! If Darnold learns Shaheed’s speed when he blows the top off the D like he did a few times last season, Shaheed will be invaluable. It was only that Darnold seemed to underestimate his speed and under-threw him a bit.
It’s gonna be mighty hard for a D to handle our receiver group this year.
I graded it an F once I saw what they wouldn’t pay Kenneth Walker. And remembering we have Tory Horton coming off injury. Which prob explains why Bobo is dropping off.
You can’t not pay KW $14 and then pay Rashid $17, I don’t care what about positional value.

For me, once a player is a Seahawk, I’m like “woo HOO!” When a player is traded away or let go, my first reaction is “that’s sad,” quickly replaced with “I am glad Schneider has a plan and is making these decisions.”
Totally followed your line of thinking Ken! Definitely signals to me that they see him as WR2. Year 1 didn't show it but maybe they know something I don't.

Speed kills. That's why the Raiders under Al Davis always had major speedsters at WR. See Daryl Lamonica ( the " mad bomber," ) Willie Gault etc. Al was once quoted as saying that a DB's worst nightmares were getting beat deep and that paranoia opened up the entire offense.

The kick returning is the thing. Thirty of Myers’ 48 FGAs came in the nine games after Schneider acquired Shaheed.
