Hiring people you know , is certainly not a bad idea- Having an immediate feel and understanding is a big plus!

Really disappointed to see Larry Izzo go, his work on ST has been really good, Jay will have some big shoes to fill

I find the process around getting an OC interesting. Rumors for days about candidates, lots of time to sort out who they want, but no indication of a hire yet. Didn't like anyone they've talked to enough to pull the trigger? Waiting for someone on KC's or SF's staff? The deal has been done for days but it just hasn't been discovered by the media or announced by the Team? Curious.

Curious, indeed. Good questions, and who knows? I wonder if they really wanted Kafka for the OC job and interviewed him under the guise of a HC candidate knowing that Macdonald/Johnson were the targets all along. Maybe they're still trying to out maneuver the Giants front office (or make a deal somehow) to get him. I guess there's no one left to complete with for OC hires, so they can take all the time the want at this point.

Kafka being Plan A is not a bad theory. It would explain a lot. They can probably get him next year, as I would wager Daboll will implode this year. Maybe they get a bridge OC for this year (to match their bridge QB), and if it doesn't work out grab Kafka next year. But, I expect Mike Mac would rather not put the players through 2 different offensive systems in the next 2 years. Not great for linear development.

I was soaking up more than my fair share of hot water in the shower this morning and it occured to me that PC, the wise, old, defensive minded coach that he is, might be a tad miffed about the Leslie Frazier hireing as a mentor to the young head coach that replaced him even though he didn't want to be replaced.

I’m surprised by this one considering Izzo is at top of this coaching group. For JS it likely is a spot to save some money after making Macdonald the richest first year guy. But likely a little bit of letting his coach have ownership in at least a few areas

Like others here, Izzo is the ONE that I was certain they would keep. This was the area where you could say the 2023 Seahawks actually excelled.

As much as “Short attention span Rusty” would like to know the entire coaching staff RIGHT NOW, I’m actually pleased this is playing out in a manner that appears to be one of thoughtful deliberation.

Today's Football is producing Strong Men. It is said hard times also produce such, with the 'cycle' described as strong men produce easy times, which easy times then produce weak men, who produce hard times and it begins again. I can see strong Fathers raising strong men, so it will be no surprise to see these boys do very well in the immediate future.

When you say Izzo is a "Free Agent", does this give our Hawks trading compensation, like draft picks?

I shouldn't even respond since I don't know this for certain, but I believe that every member of the coaching staff was given permission to seek employment elsewhere. And that would mean no unless he was under contract and they were trying to retain him. Which seeing as they've replaced him, they surely aren't.

As long as they keep Nick Bellore around, everything will be fine.

I'm a HUGE fan of Nick B and considered his jersey many times. But at his salary, I'd be very surprised, considering a lot of younger, faster, stronger kids will be cheaper and plentiful. But I will hold out hope that he'll renegotiate and we will get more seasons of his wonderful show.

Watch them release him and then hire him the next day as ST coach. But he turns down the job unless they change the title to "Specials Teams Assistant and Fullbacks Coach."

«Harbaugh is the only NFL head coach who was previously on special teams»

If you mean currently, that's true. But while the move is rare, quite a few head coaches were previously special teams coaches. More recently, Joe Judge.

Thanks for reminding me of Joe Judge. I did mean currently and certainly didn't go in depth because of how rare it is in the modern era.

Would fit more in the previous article, but Bieniemy would theoretically be available as OC, thougths?

I like Bieniemy but I don't think that is a culture fit. A lot of Moons' players were complaining about the hard-nosed style of EB here in DC which doesn't seem to jive with the player relationship style of PC and MM.

Totally agree, I also do not really see EB as an Seahawk

Did he ever call plays prior to 2023's disaster in Washington?

I am not sure. When browsing through various comments I often read things like "it was still the first year", "worst O-Line in the league", "still had Howell at the top of passing yards at some point", etc.. Do not get me wrong, I am not really "for" EB, I just think if we get Kafka credit for things he has done in KC, why would we be so quick to dismiss EB's achievements? (I know EB called plays last year, Kafka did not, but still, Kafka did not really do anything to prove he is that much better than EB in my opinion) Do not get me wrong, I would have liked Kafka as OC, and like I said I do not hope that EB becomes the new OC, but wouldn't it be at least worth a thought or discussion, based on KC's success during his tenure?

I wasn't pining for EB to join the Hawks, I had just read reports that Andy Reid said he did call plays. In JS I trust!

Larry Izzo was the coach I most hoped we'd retain, but I hear nothing but great things about the young Harbaugh. I'm kind of surprised Jay didn't join his dad in LA. Says something about MacDonald's connections.

Or about Jay's desire to make it on his own out of the shadow of this Dad/Uncle. Got to give him some credit for that.

Seaside Joe's avatar

My first thought was that he could be trying to separate his individual success from his dad's connections, but I mean...nobody's ever going to do that. To be fair, Jim and John are also the product of nepotism in coaching although I'm not sure to what degree Jack Harbaugh gave them career bumps or not.
