Once again Anthony Bradford layed some viscious blocks on Claud Raines ( the Invisible Man) and some of his own teammates. I just hope he's gone before he gets Sam, K9 or Charbs injured. There must be someone, anyone who would be better. JS needs to find a replacement ASAP.

Kudos to the secondary, especially in the 2nd half. While not the LOB, these guys stepped up and played some pretty good ball. It will be nice to get all our starters back though.

Maybe it is me, but it seems Kubiac's run game calling is not as good as I would like. The fact our 3 RBs only ran for 58 yards is disappointing. Coupled with this is the fact that too many wide runs were for losses.

Was glad to see Kupp get on the receiving end in the 2nd half. While I LOVE JSN, I feel it is important not to rely so heavily on one WR. Let's spread the ball around!!!

The run game calling would improve with a better line. We really need our fullback back also.

Never heard his name mentioned and I didn't notice him coming in but Jake Bobo played 12 offensive snaps, 22%. The TEs played more than him but he was the only WR besides the big 3.

Forgot to say in my previous post that the defense looked like they had how to tackle lessons in last weeks game prep. It wasn't perfect but it didn't seem like they were missing as many. Anybody know what the missed tackle stats were? I looked at Pro Football Reference and I couldn't tell if they had it for the game.

6 missed tackles, according to PFF. Thomas with 2, and Emmanwori, Murphy, Nwosu, Lawrence all with 1.

Just to show the level at which these guys play, check out the All-22 of Darnold’s 61yd TD pass to JSN:

* When JSN is six yards downfield, Darnold completes his drop back and finds JSN

* Darnold puts the ball in the air as JSN approaches the Jacksonville 40

* JSN catches the pass on a dead run just inside the Jacksonville 15

In other words, Darnold sees the opportunity for a big play when JSN is six yards downfield, leads him by 25 yards, and JSN runs exactly to where the ball is headed. I couldn’t pull this off in my dreams!

Houston's defence might be even better than they rank. They've played 3 really good offences (Rams, Ravens, Jags) and still rate #1 in points and yards allowed. This will be a big test. We are going to need to make plays in the seam and the middle of the field, as they are really good outside. We'll need to hold serve on defence, and make enough plays on offence. Should be a fun one.

IdahoFred's avatar

Of those "really good offences" only the Bucs are in the top 10. The two teams they beat were the Titans, one of the worst in the NFL, and the Ravens, who were without Lamar. They played the Bucs and Jags close like we did so maybe they are on par with us. Sort of glad it is a home game, then again, with our record maybe we should hope for our tougher games to be on the road. Two of their losses they had the lead and could not hold it and the the other game it was a tie. Their defense has good stats so yes it should be a good test. One bad thing about this game is it is the ESPN Monday Night Game. I'm going to have to go somewhere to watch it. 😥

Seattle was 1-12 converting third downs, and no wonder. Here’s the distance for each third down situation (final possession not included):

7, 13, 4, 13, 10, 3, 12, 2, 7, 8

Results on corresponding second down:

4 run, 7 pass, 0 run, -3 run, inc, 0 run, -2 run, 6 pass, -3 run, 2 run

In short, the offense averaged 7.9yds to go on third down because the preceding second downs averaged 0.7yds. While I haven’t gone through the others games to see how the offense did on second downs that preceded a third down, I am nonetheless seeing a red flag here.

So here is my shot at trying to get in the newsletter. Some original thoughts and some plagiarized.

First, great job by the special teams. Besides stopping a 2 point conversion they got the kicker to shank a field goal and extra point.

I don't think Sam looked as sharp today as the previous games. His completion rate was 59.25%, lowest of the season. I don't know if he was off or how much of it was the Jags defense. He could have had a pick on that play where they almost sacked him. Then again, he was sharp enough to complete two 61 yard passes.

We lost the TOP 26:39 to 33:21. They also ran more plays than we did, 68 to 54. And we were just 1 of 12 on third down conversions, they 4 of 16 plus 3 for 3 on forth down. Just looking at those stats I would have said we would be on the losing end of things.

The blitz looked better the few times they used it.

I think the contributions we are getting from the youth movement on this team are as good as the early teams of Pete. Amazing balance between the new and old.

Average gain per rushing play, Seattle 2.3, Jags 3.1. Both rushing defenses stepped it up today.

Thoughts… The Seahawks now control their own destiny to win the NFC west division. We don’t need to hope teams lose to have a chance at winning. Missing 3 starters in the DB room had me thinking the offense would need to bail out the defense. Kudos to the DB backups, MM’s scheme, and the D-line for proving me wrong. To my eyes, J Reed was the only player who left the game for injury, so hopefully it isn’t serious and 8 days until the Texans will have us closer to full strength for a tough one at home. I still think the offense is getting better weekly as it gets more experience with the new system. Need to see better 3rd down efficiency moving forward, but I am very happy about the pass protection, so I can’t complain. I like no turnovers. Let’s see that continue. Darnold is so good on the deep ball, I think we should expect him to average 275+ yards a game moving forward. I thought the team would be close to but short of 4000 yards passing for the season, but I thought the running game would get 2400. I think K9 can still have a few big games of 100 plus, but I admit it’s not likely that the team hits 2400. I would love for K9 to hit 100+ against Washington and the Rams coming out of the bye. (Week 9 and 11) Winning those two games and beating the Texans would sure put us in great position.

Well, another W, and still with lots of room for continued improvement!

Coach MM dialed up more QB pressure to compensate for our depleted DB’s and that worked well along with Trevor’s penchant for inaccuracy.

JSN is All World as a receiver and along with Cooper K and AJ B they spread the ball around nicely.

Run game is still only marginally effective (can we please get rid of Bradford who is horrific!)…but, the run game and play action set up our passing game which is so much better than I dreamed it would be!!

We are 2-3 plays from being 6-0, so a lot to like about our Team!

I just watched the Bucs DISMANTLE the 49ers, so that made me feel a little better about last weeks disappointing loss.

49ers lost Fred Warner today to a gruesome injury, they are running CMC into the ground, so I see our main competition for NFC West as the Rams.

Lots of good ball to be played, but so far, so good - I really like our Coach, Team and chances to make some noise this year 🏈

I think MM showed up on Sunday by “dialed up more QB pressure” wished he would have done that last week. One more game to the bye and hopefully healthy D.

We are only 2 or 3 plays from being a 2 and 4 team. Today was not very convincing. Or maybe with all the injuries we have the fact that we won at all should be evidence of how good we are.

Really good teams win in spite of their injury problems. We did that today and, in my opinion are trending to be a really good team. we nearly beat the Bucks with a depleted secondary and D-line injuries. I was impressed by the O-line doing a really good job of protecting the QB. Go Hawks!!!

Missed a good portion of the 1st half (good luck watching the game if you're at Jungle Island with your 3-yr-old grandson 😍) but did see more than half so here goes:

1. Was the 6th game in a row where I thought Seattle was the better team. Last year's record was similar but I never had that feeling. It's bc we're good in all three phases of the game; we are balanced offensively and defensively; appear to be making fewer mistakes than the opponents (disciplined?); and when we've lost, we've barely lost

2. SSJ predicted a JSN explosion and that's what we got. When I tuned in near halftime and saw a graphic of 117 yds already I about rammed the car in front of me

3. DeMarcus Lawrence has always been continues to be an absolute difference-maker. We beat TB if he had played

4. Leonard Williams is a fullblown beast, but that play where he ran down a WR that had slipped a tackle 30 yds downfield was from another planet. Is he the DPOY?

5. Byron Murphy is making Schneider look brilliant. Guys we had 4 sacks and 14 pressures from the INTERIOR DL, him and Williams. That's nearly impossible for an offense to overcome.

6. Darnold once again making the other QB look inferior. Wow, is he good or what

7. While I'm not enthralled by the result, it was interesting to read that after 6 games, Seattle has one more running play than it does passing plays. AWESOME!!

8. I've complained about Jason Myers but I think I'll stop now, considering how bad it could be (as we just witnessed)

9. The TD Jobe gave up was OPI, guy pushed him off in the back, otherwise was either going to be a PB or outright INT

All that said:

10. JSN cannot let his ego get ahead of him. On his way to being an all-time great, but learn from Koop young man, don't spin the ball, just beat him routinely and then block him into the ground. Humiliation that lasts....

11. The one sack Darnold took was him freezing, obvious blitz, could have easily thrown it away. One of the few times I've seen Darnold look like he did in last year's playoffs

12. Letting them go 3 for 3 on 4th downs?? C'mon man!

13. I love Tory Horton but that punt return where he couldn't juke the gunner and would have had at least 15 yd return if he had, wasn't great.

14. Unfortunately Bradford had himself another Tony Turnstile moment, managed to block Lucas instead of the defender and the RB got nailed 3 yds into the backfield. Gonna make the Blooper reel again...sadly...

Ok. I’m gonna call out Drake Thomas for having a really good game. He’s one of those guys who’s considered too small for an inside backer. He’s one of the names mentioned early in the season as to why we had inadequate depth at that position. Yet he made a lot of positive plays today. First sack, helped Jones stop the 2 pt. conversion attempt. He just seems to have a nose for the ball.

Emmanwori looked good today and even decent in coverage (which was his pre draft weakness). His tackling really popped today.

Damn you Chris Myers! You HAD to say Darnold hadn’t been sacked all game. Boom! A sack.

4-2, and 2 or 3 plays from being 6-0. I’ll take it.

Just keep getting better, Hawks.

The game was at 4am here so I only caught the last 45 minutes or so. We often complain that the Seahawks always keep games unnecessarily interesting when they could win comfortably. I gotta say this 4th quarter was boring in the best possible way.
