With time to consider: Being DeeJay Dallas
Geno Smith's most valuable attribute and other Seahawks notes after a 37-27 win: Seaside Joe 1668
Rare is the game where one of my takeaways is an innocuous 13-yard punt return, but this season I’ve struggled to wrap my brain around DeeJay Dallas’s various decisions and indecisions as Seattle’s return man. Last week, I was furious that he didn’t return a punt that could have helped the Seahawks score at the end of the first half. This week, I’m confused as to why he returned a punt with two gunners in his DeeJay Dall-ass.
To his credit, Dallas held onto the ball and brushed off the defense for 13 yards, firing up the ever-burning Pete Carroll. Still, I wish I could get inside the head of DeeJay Dallas on these plays, if I dare enter that realm to try and figure out what he’s thinking on these returns.
“Dallaskovich, Dallaskovich. Dallaskovich? Dallaskovich!”
With time to consider, I can’t be that mad at plays that didn’t go poorly. I have some concerns that he’s being forced into a role that he’s not right for because Pete doesn’t want to put Jaxon Smith-Njigba out there, but I also didn’t exactly hate the ride to DeeJay’s seventh-and-a-half floor.
What else did I learn with more time to consider, other than the fact that Zach Charbonnet single-shoulderedly relocated the Panthers to South Carolina with this hit?
