Grubb and that related FA were pretty rough. At least with Grubb you can see the thought process, same can't be said to a lot of those FA's - but at least he made sure to arrange contracts so there were easy outs and little waste cash longer term.
Although, we're waiting to see quite how the Arnold thing works out, and that's got real potential to jump right to #1. Watching what Hall does closely as well, not as bad but could be a sizable misstep too.
Best, Benton and Durde. MM's a great get, but JS worked with him to stack our backroom with talent since. Kubiak was great, and Janocko (hence why they've been poached). Can we count promoting Nolan Teasley to AGM (it's right on the borderline time wise). And of course I have to shoutout my guy Peetz that everyone overlooks.
You could have the best players in the NFL, but put bad coaches around them and it'll all fall apart.
Worst move? Drafting Malik McDowell as the 35th overall pick in 2017 - the team’s virtual first round pick. Boneheaded ATV accident, never played a snap for Seattle. Multiple legal problems. 11 months in prison. Eventually played one season as a Cleveland Brown, then two years as a Duke City Gladiator.
Schneider gave him a four-year, $6.95 million contract with $4.40 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $3.19 million. The Seahawks filed a lawsuit against him in May 2019, after he failed to repay $799,238 of his signing bonus.
There were character concerns, like lack of effort and discipline, before the draft, and it only went downhill from there.
Maybe it was a good lesson for JS. He next drafted for character, then character and toughness, and now character, toughness, and brotherhood. The Super Bowl winning team is a fantastic group of men.
Schneider's first and best move as post-Pete GM was hiring Mike Macdonald, but it began while Pete was still in charge. I believe that JS recognized an opportunity during Pete's final season that would make both MM and Ben Johnson available for head coaching gigs, and did everything he could to usher in the next regime. MM won the job interview and the rest is history. All the bad GM moves were during that transition offseason. JS just needed place-holders until MM could really get his system and staff installed.
The Adams deal should be in the discussion. Injuries not his fault I guess, but the bet was too big with bad injuries to hitter safeties already being part of Seahawks history.
Honorable mention for the Christine Michael pick and the 2013 draft as a whole. Adding 2-3 impact players in that draft (and 2014) would have solidified the dynasty. A couple pretty bad draft years, not adding young talent on rookie contracts.
