GREAT video breakdown by All-22! Though I did chuckle at the end (16:20 mark) when he says, "Over 500 tackles in a 7 year career, still only 7 years old"!
Edge rushers get the showy highlights and most of the media spotlight. CBs get hype and top draft pick status.
Safeties and LBs are, however, the beating heart, the core of the defence. If you don't have a decent safety and LB you're fucked (as evidenced by the late PC era, and supported by the early PC era).
This is what, so far, has separated MM from most of the other DC to HC convert's. His specialty is in the core defensive areas. It's why I really want us to keep Bryant going forwards too, his security and solid performance floor are incredibly valuable for a team eyeing up a Championship. Love, Emmanwori, Bryant might be the best Safety set in the league. Jones and Knight are a Top10 league pairing.
If we can find a third LB in the vein of Bryant (i.e. solid floor, versatile, hard working) that position is set. It'll allow Spoon and Riq to flex their special skills more. And with that in place we can buy and extra half-second for the Line to get after a QB which is massive.
The Defence is trending up, built on the basic core elements the best teams have set. Get excited to see us suffocate opponents and frustrated WRs.
Whilst we should not trade for Watt or Hendrickson, if we can find an improved rusher (Mafe to finally breakthrough? Hall to make the leap?) this D will be terrifying.
I'm not expecting we'll be hiring from outside, to keep from screwing with the chemistry these guys now have. They know how good they are and can be, or at least believe it. MacDonald and JS are 'Show me' people. My bet is they concede the Offense got a raw deal last year and MM is going to ride with that at least through pads-on Training Camp.
"so he may have actually had a slightly lower rate of missed tackles/opportunity."
According to PFF, Love's missed tackle rate dropped from 11.2% in 2023 to 8.5% in 2024. His missed tackle rate in 2022 with the Giants was 8.7%. Among starting Safeties (Safeties with at least 900 snaps in 2024), Love's missed tackle rate was 9th best in the NFL.
The Stone and Williams INT total and rating drop is pretty astounding. Goes to show how much scheme matters in the NFL. Lets hope Kubiaks offense is just as jaw dropping on the positive side.
With Emmanwori's flat-footed leaping ability to 10 feet(!), I am seeing opposing QBs adjusting the lanes they look for, along with slower lobs replacing fastballs. (Credits to Bootleg Football!) Or avoiding his area all together. Julian seems to be the unselfish kind of guy who will look to playing volleyball, tipping a touched pass to a teammate rather than a wild stab at getting it back to himself. Maybe we'll see a new stat added for 'interception assist'?
Another great article on one of our prized pickups! You are on a roll Joe! LOL. Im really excited to see Mike McDonald’s defense this year. With veterans coming back & rookies growing into his system each year add in Nick E. OH MY Gosh!!! how exciting! Im proud to be a Seahawks of over 30 Years!
So what you're asking is: is it Love?

Let's hope Love doesn't read this article and think he he's underpaid

Explains why we didn't grab Geno Stone in free agency. MM knew what he had!

greatest all time interception assist award goes to Richard Sherman (NFC Championship game tip to Malcolm Smith)
Proved he could excel at Volleyball!
