If K9’s body holds up yeah he is going to be “the guy” for the next 5-6 years. His style does remind me of Shawn a bit in that he almost seems to be gliding just above the ground. Great speed, great hands.
"The two best free agent signings in the NFL this year were running backs" BECAUSE the position has been devalued to such a wild extent. In decades past, Saquon and DH would not have been allowed to leave their teams because they are elite talents - perhaps Saquon's injury history might have prevented him from getting a CMC-esque top-of-the-market deal. The 9ers trade for CMC made it look otherwise, but the UNDERVALUATION (not devaluation) of RBs has been in full swing for a good few years now.
Both you and MacDonald (from a little closer-in) saw what Walker did to Michigan -- and you went deeper to show that wasn't a one-game fluke.
I'm still mystified by the relatively low use of Walker and of the running game in general, bc what All-22 is seeing is so evident at least to me -- this guy is a threat every time he touches the ball.
I also think you need a tip of the hat for calling out his pass-catching prowess so early on, that his "weakness" was more a function of the Michigan State offense than of his personal capabilities. Kudos dude, called it and that 2nd touchdown catch was up there with Lockett and at least as good as what Metcalf or Fant delivers.
LOVE having Walker on our team, same as Mafe and Cross and Spoon and JSN and Woolen -- just feels like the draft has given us some real-ass weapons and we need to take advantage of them when they're still inexpensive. Again I am of the opinion that the reason Carroll is no longer here is bc Seattle could not have another year of burning up rookie contracts with rookies like these guys.
JS/PC are going to start who? At QB. They are a joke.
And now ... JS/PC took a RB in round 2.
Going against the grain is not always going to work. But I love when PC/JS held to their convictions and went against popular/consensus belief. It is the best way to gain a competitive edge.
Seems like a good article to check in on the Running For Walker Challenge, where I run 5 kilometers for every TD scored by K9 in one run during the week between games. To put things in perspective, I run quite a bit and typically have a long run of 5-7 miles sometime during most weeks, so a 10K is not too bad, but a 15K is pretty tough. Week 4 was a nice challenge after K9's 3 TDs against Detroit. So far I've managed to keep pace with Ken on distance, but have not come close to matching his top speeds. It's interesting because Ken and I are about the same height and weight, but somehow we look nothing alike.
I just flat out think the analytics guys are wrong about RBs. Many of the most memorable NFL players of all time are RBs and they aren’t all created equally. Do those guys really believe Kenny Macintosh is the same as Gale Sayers, Franco Harris, Tony Dorsett, K9, etc? Hogwash!! If you want Seahawk proof see Lynch with the “Beastquake” run vs. every RB since him until K9.
Oh let’s not forget Chris Carson doing a complete flip, then continuing his run. His neck injury cut short what could have been a very memorable career ( in my opinion).
No offense intended to Carson, whom I loved watching, or even Kenny Macintosh. They are both 100 times the athlete I ever was, but they aren’t Shaun Alexander, Curt Warner, or Marshawn Lynch. That’s not disrespectful, just a fact. I’m sure some of that is opportunity and some is injury issues. Warner did return from injury to have several successful seasons, but wasn’t quite the same as before that. Unfortunately injuries cut Carson’s career short also. Short, injury riddled careers are partly the reason for high pay for professional athletes, and well deserved.
If All22 is right, Jerrel spells Good Things are coming for our run game. Our RBs have been doing alright with what little has been given them as regards lanes to run through. Thankfully, no huge injuries have occured. We needed to find and develop a diamond-in-the-rough to begin resetting the attitude that Seattle hasn't been focused on our offensive linemen. The search to find a free agent to fix our problems hasn't worked too well, as witnessed by the number of good RBs who wore themselves out trying to bang open a lane. Now we stand a chance to find guys who can help us improve instead of magically fixing a dissolute group of big men. Giving Walker and Charbs a long career here should be a deep factor when the pay issue hits. Open lanes to drive a truck through and the stats will follow. We can expect to see Jerrel next week, as now the League has tape on him. Let's see if he and the coaches have him properly prepped to address any "weaknesses" exposed in his first outing. My bet is the Elder Statesman Peters will be all over bringing this group together. Let the Pride Weeks begin. Mike Jerrel just earned a warm welcome.
I was all for taking Bijan at #5, so no surprise i am high on RB's still being essential to good football. It's just one of the basics. So when arguably the best RB prospect of the draft falls to you in the 2nd, you take him and reap the rewards. You then almost repeat that a year later to compliment your team with a different style of back who's still kick ass.
A lot of smart people in the NFL seemingly have been distracted by showy highlight reels of WR's, and ignoring the spiralling wages and raft of replacement level talent that shows up each year. Pretty much every knock on RB's applies equally to WR's, but WR's are sexy flashy Ferraris and RB's are your underrated reliable Pick-ups. And when it comes down to it, when it really really matters, for the win what do you want on your side?
Pete wanted the Ferrari, and we all remember how that ended! :p
Mahomes continues to succeed even after losing the big name WRs to free agency. He's turning my thinking around about how and why teams excel. Geno puts the ball where it is designed to be and does it with 'touch', as does Mahomes. Do that and you don't need guys who can catch sloppy, desperate and contested passes. It is the running game that awards the QB the time needed.
It’s never a bad thing to use a high draft pick on a game changer, regardless of position. Those are the players who win championships.
Much of the post-game chatter was about Walker’s TD reception, but how the TD run? When he got to the 15 and still had a man to beat, my son (who was watching the game with) both shouted “he’s in” because we knew that the defender—whoever it was—couldn’t handle KW3 in the open field.
I haven’t been high on Chrabs much and started questioning our 2nd round usage on him. Obviously he has his own path to forge, but how much of his reps and presence make a positive difference for Walker? Is there any way to measure that? FWIW this line of thinking started with DK because I’m so ready to ship him off but is there a world where our receivers struggle more without him? Does he occupy that much of a DCs planning?
If K9’s body holds up yeah he is going to be “the guy” for the next 5-6 years. His style does remind me of Shawn a bit in that he almost seems to be gliding just above the ground. Great speed, great hands.
I believe he should not be overused. His injuries have been costly. The team needs another excellent back to make it work. Charbs? Maybe. KMac? Maybe
Walker is just so much fun to watch. Every time he touches the ball it’s a potential touchdown.
O, call back yesterday, bid time return.
Come on
Oh my God
You know that I'd be back
(I'll go read the article, thanks for the nostalgia trip)

And just like that, almost like magic, impeccable timing: another comp for Walker pops up — the Kamara extension 😂
JS/PC took a too small QB.
JS/PC took a too tall cornerback.
JS/PC took a linebacker for a safety.
JS/PC are going to start who? At QB. They are a joke.
And now ... JS/PC took a RB in round 2.
Going against the grain is not always going to work. But I love when PC/JS held to their convictions and went against popular/consensus belief. It is the best way to gain a competitive edge.

Very Cool!
I could have done the Lock lap challenge in 2022. I couldn't do it now. Kept running but it just got harder each year to keep up the pace.
Not you "could have done." We did the Laps For Lock Challenge. It just ended up being extremely easy.
Hahaha, that's a really good point!

Love it. Teams need 2 good backs and we have it. Now get some punishers up front. Hope Jerrell could be one of those.
Signing to a Stevenson contract would likely have been great.

No offense Jimmy, but you can’t seriously be comparing Geno to Mahomes? Worlds apart.
SJ wrote about drafting Bijan and there was a lot of support for the move here!
SJ. Rams pitching Kupp to teams. No I’m not saying we go for him. We have a Kupp in JSN already.
As reported on TFT by our very own SSJ aka Ken! Even with the Rams taking on salary a 2nd would seem high given his recent injury history.
TFT? I'd like to catch that...
Here ya go 😊

Probably: Hard to trade Cooper Kupp
But: It's still realistic. Hard to imagine who will step up with a 3rd round pick.

Another outstanding KenJoe call, your Ken on Ken series was exceptional!
I love the origins, especially Ken & JSN -
T Y V M!
