Stone Forsythe did pretty well against Hutchinson last year, and I think he will again. I’m figuring another relatively high scoring affair tomorrow. And that fits right in with Seaside Jay’s Hero pick. Geno will have a good game. That’s just science.

Jay has good juju and voodoo going for her. Is Clark going to get in on the action? So maybe Seahawks mojo is rising. May the 12s be with you and Go Seahawks!

Well half of the NFCW lost today so there’s that.

IF the Seahawks are to win tomorrow… it will be because Geno has an outstanding game, like vs NE but better. Like, 25/30 300+ 3TDs no INTs good. K9 + Charbs need 120 on the ground with a TD.

On D… holding Detroit under 150 yards rushing, getting at least 1 INT (I pick Riq), and under 200 yards for Goff would do the trick.

Final score 31-21.

And does Gruden love the Seahawks? For real?

Could it be?

@Doug's Fresh, your typed fingers to whatever deity cares about the NFL... which is probably not a deity at all, but anyway.

Gruden's right about needing to chip. I have a theory that maybe the way to play this is to really grind clock. To play opposite-land from last year, and go as jumbo as possible on offense. You take Hutchinson out of his bread and butter rather than let him feast, and rolling with three tight ends or an extra tackle-eligible and two tight ends, DK and Bobo and just grind the Lions until they meow. I write this thinking that Grubb hasn't really shown that much change-up, and it'd be ideal to force them that defense to think more. Now, the counter to the counter is obvious; the Hawks' o-line has been only okay at run blocking even with a lead against Miami until the fish were starting to rot at the end of that game. So, yes, you could argue that Seattle's best options are at receiver, not at, oh, guard. But you wonder.... I'm still a pessimist here because this one would be tough enough WITH a healthy interior defensive rotation, and if you're Detroit you dictate against that as much as possible. Going hurry up, for instance, is going to tax what Seattle can do, and with greener D-linemen that's really going to test coaching. Which, naturally, Detroit should push against. TBD. One perhaps advantage: Goff isn't very mobile. Ideally that's somehow exploited.

Yeah Detroit has its own injuries including at EDGE opposite to Hutchinson, who either needs to be chipped or doubled.

It will be very interesting to see what Grubb does!

Going heavy is an option, but so is going all in spread in 11 personal (like the Rams) and making the Lions play chase all day with quick passes and lots of lateral speed.

Laviska running Jets, K9 counter off of that, JSN breaking ankles, that kind of thing.

I agree with Doug. Our offence needs to be great this week. My prediction is we’ll pound them with our RB’s early which will open the game up a little later for Geno to hit some targets downfield. I can see Lockett having an impact.

As an aside (my brain is hurting for this one), Jay’s says? Is it Jay is says, or Jay does says…it’s just not making sense to me. Should it be Jays’ say? Or is it just a deliberate mistake to make it sound rhyme-like? Either way, I love her contributions.

It's possessive and says isn't plural. If my grammar knowledge isn't failing me, I believe it's correct as Jay's says. Also, keeping in mind it's just a clever heading and not being graded.

I’m no expert gramatician (see?), so you’re probably correct. The apostrophe just doesn’t seem right.

They never do IMHO. The rules of punctuation change and unless I am in school or in a job where keeping current is possible I don’t always agree with what I see and I question what I write often enough.

I assume it's a deliberate mistake to make it rhyme. "Jay's say" or "Jay says" just doesn't sound quite as fun as "Jay's says." In this case we are pronouncing "says" as "sayz" rather than "sez." It's possessive and says is the plural of say, because it's a weekly collection of what Jay has to say; they're her says. This is how it works in my brain, anyway.

Good work Jaymoney (I assume this is Seaside Jay's actual first name based on the clues provided).

It comes down intent. Read as if “Says” is a proper noun (i.e., an idiosyncratic version of “Sayings”) and “Jay’s Says” (“The Sayings of Jay”) is correct. However, if “Says” is a verb, there should be no apostrophe.

What to do when your "good players aren't playing"? How about we obliterate the concept that every one of our players are not just "good players" but Great Players? That's what I see Coach Mack doing tomorrow night. Jay is correct about a Goff performance. About the fifth time these 'back-ups" reward his waffling, we'll see him match the total number of interceptions (4) as he tries to curb a tendency to panic. The hurrier he goes, the behinder he'll get.

This was going to be a very tough game IF everyone was healthy and playing. Now no one ever knows how a game will unfold, BUT a win is going to be extremely tough with all the injuries. Will pull out all the Hoodoo /Voodoo for this one for the Hawks and do nothing but have Positive thoughts! GO HAWKS!!!

Regardless of the outcome tomorrow, SSJ isn't going to have to talk Seahawks fans off the ledge like he has to do at TST. I do empathize with the Rams who have a very tough injury situation AND a weak overall roster on D. But it would REALLY suck to be a Cards fan after getting "Washed" at home lol.

Watching Sunday highlights - looks like Jayden Daniels (ASU / LSU) has a chance to outwit / outplay / outlast all Joe’s other “QB Survivor” contestants - except Grayson McCall Me Maybe!

and, a Pro tip - teams needing a franchise QB in the draft should trade up to #2 so the overrated guy gets swept out of the way of destiny (CJ, Jayden)

< Doesn’t apply to any J-E-T-S picks >

Not a football comment, but I wanted to check in and let everyone know that Mrs Turtleman our dog Eleanor and I are safe here in western NC. No power, internet access running water and I will surely miss my first Seahawks game in a long time. But we have food and drinking water and an intact roof over our heads which is more than I can say for a lot of neighbors. My pet shop flooded and is in bad shape but we can deal with that later. Hope y’all will cheer the Hawks on for us tonight.

Doug's 31-21 score prediction feels about right to me. I foresee a few TE chip and release plays tonight. It's a great way to give help to the right or left tackles, and to put pressure on the iLB to make a tackle on some of the big boys. Some plays designed to get Geno out of the pocket would be useful as well. Just keep the pressure guessing, and don't leave Geno in the same spot too much. Vary the timing.

Despite the injuries, I expect the defense to hold up ok. Maybe not great stats at the end of the game, but enough to win the game I hope.

Curious - I never have thought about this before, but Gruden says he hates having our players look to the sidelines for play calls while in formation. Does anyone know if this is this illegal? You hear coaches shouting all the time during the clock winddown, so not sure why signals would be illegal.

Expand full comment
Doug's avatar

Signalling from the sidelines is completely legal. Gruden doesn't like it because in his world it is not "pro". And if you are sending signals to the team from the sidelines, it is possible the other side figures out the signs.
