I saw that article and had to laugh. Especially the part about how he needed to be in Seattle kind of offense and my first thoughts were exactly what you wrote, PC is all about protecting the ball and Willis doesn’t have that. Just unfathomable sports writers don’t get that.
Me thinks that the statement Malik outplayed Levis says more about Levis than Malik. When the internet started hyping Levis to the Seahawks I decided to watched a replay of the Liberty Ole Miss game. What I saw was a QB who looked lost when faced with complex coverage. A year latter when I watched the Titans second game against the the Texans I saw the same thing. He is not accurate because he is unsure of what the correct decision is and can really only threaten a defense with his legs. He is not accurate because his feet rarely align with the throw he is trying to make. I am skeptical of the reported major improvement as Malik weaknesses are not mechanics per se but instead fundamentals.
Our WR room in 5 years: JSN, Sterling Lockett and Jeremiah Smith. Grandpa DK on a snap count helping the young guys.
I think Holton Allers (or close to it, I don’t even know his name 100%) has a better future in the NFL than Malik Willis. I’m forcing a bit, but I wouldn’t doubt it.
Ken, you hit the nail on the head with the epithet "lazy". There is no reason for anyone to think Willis would be a fit for the Seahawks if you took the time to be familiar with the team.
Instead, look to the land of misfit QBs otherwise known as the "Niners".
I fell in love with SSJ, officially, when I read the, albeit months later, retort to the tweet about Willis falling to us in the draft and our GM reaching for someone else. You wrote back, Willis fell to y'all in the 3rd and your GM got fired. It was such poetic justice! I was a subscriber already, but that solidified my loyalty.... you knew you had written an honest article and wouldn't stand for hyped up Bull-oney.
Regarding your style of writing and your perceived target audience, I absolutely love that you are one of the only writers I have found who actually considers what we know of how and who Pete and John want to draft. It's what led you to 'Spoon this year. It is what you must do if you intend to write about reality honestly. Why would you ignore important information like that when covering the stories? I don't know either, but everybody else seems to miss the obvious source of Pete and John themselves, and what they have directly said publicly. It's as if the writers rotely dismiss what they say as coach-speak without even considering for one second they might be at the very least giving us context clues. We all know Pete gave the job to Geno because he took care of the ball better than Drew. We all know Pete absolutely detests turnovers because they lose games more directly than any other thing. How in the HELL would that mesh with Willis??
You approached each draft story with the same unbiased approach. You ignored the sensationalism posted everywhere, and bored down to the heart of the matter while other writers buried their collective head in the sand to just spit out crap trying to collect as many flies as possible. I appreciate your pursuit of the truth and your confidence in your conclusions because of your honest evaluation of the key important details about the players and our JSPC.
Right! Willis was strictly a figment of the Talking Heads fervent imaginations. In the he one good team he played against, he looked totally over matched.
I couldn't believe he went as high as the 3rd round. But then I could'nt beleive the 49ers sold the farm for Trey Lance.
Sometimes it seems it's better to have the Talking Heads shilling for you.than showing real NFL potential.
Compared to last year, the Seahawks are now absolutely flush at RB, which means Igwebuike has marginal utility now beyond special teams. I wish him well though because he was the best thing to happen to the Seahawks return game since Lockett was a rookie.

SJ, your Substack is journalism and you are the journalist. I believe you when you say you only care about your readers, paid or not.
Lock >>>>Willis.

KEEP THAT SHIT UP!
I concur.

“I do not intend to show off my skills as an amateur scout because I know I truly lack any of great value” (Seaside Joe)- fake news.
Godwin Igwebuike, please.
Thank You.
I second that! First guy in HOW long that actually gets the job done!
I think the issue with Igwebuike is that teams don’t want to use a roster spot on a player who is exclusively a kick returner.
I bet he finds a home a few weeks into the season after rosters get a bit more settled and teams feel better or worse about their return game.
