I'd avoid Crosby due to cost and age. He's an A+ player when young and healthy, but who knows as he ages and comes off an injury. The Hawks have several B+ to A players on DL and I prefer that to one A+ surrounded by C+ to B players. Hall is probably the 4-6 best DL on the team and had a strong case for SB MVP. Quality depth on a team is probably underrated, but was a key to the Hawks season success with their masterful use of the "ready squad."
I would be curious about what the effect of having a star edge rusher would be. Given the MO of the team and especially this d-line is unselfishness, and not worrying about who gets the sacks or stats, how does a 'star' fit into that? It would have to be the right player, and that player might have to buy into the fact that next season might not look like seasons past. You have to be unselfish. You have to be ok opening things up for others. You have to care only about winning. You can't be thinking about your next contract, and what numbers you need to put up to optimize your earnings. You can't pout if you're not getting your typical stat line.
Is Max that guy? Maybe. I've heard nothing but good about him.
I think SJ is correct about Jimmy Graham,no Maxx for me, nothing against the guy but our team chemistry is too strong to risk ruining it by bringing in some "EDGE STAR" and overpaying him. If the team doesn't want either Mafe or Hall I feel MM knows how to get the most out of ALL the players and they rush as a TEAM. In Baltimore Clowney had a career year I believe and Van Noy was playing way above his career averages. We just won the Super Bowl and our D routinely rattled Non-Stafford QB's why does everybody think we need more pass rush and it needs to come from one position....the most obvious place When the opposing OC knows who or where the pressure is coming from, it is easier to scheme for it. Coach Mac knows what he is doing. IMHO trust the process draft well and sign guys like DeMarcus Lawrence instead.
Thank you i was trying to figure out w Crosby example of why we dont sign him and Graham is prime comparison. Thing about Sheed is that we have Horton on rookie scale contract. So, if Sheed still has his speed and can get us great starting field position from ST and make 50 yard type plays like he did, then we have Horton making the quality receiving plays, then their average salary is good news. If Sheed gets Kupp $$$, great for him, elsewhere.
Enjoy your vacation Ken! I'm scraping the moss off my back, storing my rain gear 'til spring and headed for someplace Palm trees grow next week myself. In my 'cyber reality' (oxymoron?), I'll be right here, enjoying the (so called) "off season", your great articles and the Seaside Joe community.
It's your basic Goldie Locks delimma, If the OC is great, he's gone...and if he sucks, gone. If we want consistency with an OC we can keep...we need some solid mediocrity. Like my garage band...we strive for almost 'adequate '. The great musicians leave for the vaunted tavern tip jar circuit...the 'really bad' ones relegated to the not quite 'ready squad'. Garage bands manned by old wheez'n geezers need depth too.
I see this new OC situation as a Good Thing. We won't be struggling next year with opponents planning against Kubiak's "tendencies". All the shortcomings of a Year 1 Offense can be ironed out in Year 2, especially if we stay In-House using the same system. With a properly prepared coaching tree, I can see how the expected turn-over at OC from year-to-year can be designed to become a strength and a huge motivation for talented young coaches entering the "Seahawk System". Or the "Schneider/MacDonald system"? Or 'S and M'? Give it to Big Cat and see what he can come up with... Here's to looking at YOU, Kupp!
1. I don't think Shaheed will be back because he will command too much money in FA. There isn't a ton of younger FA talent at WR, so there will probably be competition for his services. Plus the team already has Shaheed lite in Tory Horton, so I don't think they'll be signing Shaheed.
2. I think there's a good opportunity to trade out of the first round and pick up additional draft capital. There will be teams making offers for #32 and unless there's somebody JS/MM have to have, then trade down a few slots and pick up another pick or two. And that could happen multiple times in this draft with all of Seattle's first three picks as well as picks they pick up along the way.
If Shaheed leaves after a 1/2 season and SB win then he was worth every bit of the draft capital expended to get him. Without his TD returns in several games the Hawks don't win the SB this year.
This is snark-free, because tone doesn't type, but...I'm curious what trade you see possible here. It only makes sense, best I understand, for a premium position. So...that's QB, WR, CB, EDGE? Anything I'm missing there? Oh, yeah. OT. The third QB on the board, Chambliss, just won another year of eligibility in court, so he's not a possibility. Ty Simpson probably won't last that long, even if he should (he's 33 on the PFF board as I type). If it's CB or Edge, we're probably taking the player unless he's a bad fit. If it's WR I'm pretty sure we're taking that player, plus or minus Shaheed. If it's OT...right now there's a gap between 30 and 53, so that's hard to see, but the board will change and PFF isn't everything. Anyway, short version of longer thought. I think there's a world in which the Hawks would love to trade down, but I'm not sure who they trade with.
One possibility is a trade up for a team that wants pick 32 (let’s say they are holding 38 hypothetically) bc it allows for a 5 year rookie deal on a guy they want. We get say their decent 2nd and a 4th. Just spitballing.
Wayyyyy off topic, but since the sale process has started, who are the frontrunners for buying the team? I haven't seen anything talking abut potential buyers or buying groups.
I'm still hoping for the Billionaire Ex-Wives club of Melinda French and Mackenzie Scott, with Jody as minority owner and CEO. I doubt if they have any interest, but I trust that group way more than the tech bros like Bezos, Ellison, Zuckerberg, etc.
I am surprised SSJ suggested we might get Crosby by only offering this years' first rounder and maybe an added 3rd rounder. If we can get Crosby for that, I believe we should go for it. However, I believe some other team(s) will offer way more than that. So I think there is a very small chance we end up with Crosby. Anything less than our next two first round picks, and I would pull that trigger.
The 2026 draft shapes up as historically bad. All other things being equal, I’d trade all of our picks for a year of prime Crosby. But all other things are not equal. You can’t bring in a new guy who would make more than every other player on a Super Bowl winner. It’s a recipe for discord.
The whole Jimmy Graham problem had nothing to do with the trade, or Jimmy Graham. The Seahawks had no idea how to use him. They didn't know what he was. Jimmy did a few things extremely well, and he was rarely asked to do those things. They gave him 3 other things to do that he wasn't that good at. Bevell had no idea. Wasted years in Seattle. I felt bad for the guy.
Oh, y'all. [Hangs his head in shame.] I've been spending time in an NFLSE Dischord (the shame, the shame) with other Hawks fans. Not too many of us. My conclusion after all that back & forth is that we're simply best player available (BPA) in this draft.
I'm not yet convinced we need a pass-rushing edge in this defense. I'm not sure that skill set is also capable of setting the edge, and setting the edge seems more important to this defensive scheme.
If BPA leads us to another WR or LB or IOL or IDL, or whatever (CB), so be it. There's nothing wrong with growing stronger at a strong position. I mean, we won the Super Bowl without...
If Shaheed goes, and we lost a 4 and 5 to rent him, I'm OK with that. I'm also OK with keeping him on a short, lucrative contract, provided he goes to hang out with Sam so they can get used to each other in the off-season.
Not sure how many Tanks there are out there. I will trust our front office to identify them, to pay them fairly, and to be certain they fit the culture they've worked so hard (and it will be harder, next season) to build. Also not sure how much more veteran leadership we need.
Surely all Veterans have taken notice of MM's generous patience with injury, thereby extending a few years to their career? Is Bobby still on the bubble?
Great point, SSJ! Although I love the thought of Mad Maxx on the Dark Side, splashy adds rarely improved teams more than using those resources elsewhere.
Shaheed may be similar and I also love the optics of him as a Seahawk. A heathy Horton could make even more impact than Shaheed. Horton seemed to fit into our passing style better and Sam still struggles with connecting with Shaheed's routes.
I would still like to see a solid vet ring chaser join the team at a good price in the same way D-Law came in last year.
The Raiders passed up their best chance to trade Maxx at is max value last season. If I'm JS/MM, I'd be more inclined to see what we can do with our current guys (Tank and Hall aren't going anywhere, at least) and get in the draft. Let someone else roll the dice on Crosby returning from injury, or wait until next season is underway to see if he's worth anything. He'll probably be a trade deadline topic once again next year. We know the cost will be high, but his value to us will only become more clear with time.
That said, if he only costs us the 32nd pick, we've got the cap space to make it work and our realistic goal is the Super Bowl. Now is the time to play your hand.
"If you need an edge rusher, this is a good draft to double up. The depth of the class is impressive. I've got 10 guys worthy of a spot in top 50 players. There's another layer of traitsy players beyond that group." - Daniel Jeremiah

That fits with what I recall.
Agree with this. Graham was more of a Shannon Sharp tight end than a Rob Gronkowski tight end.

Very interesting
What about RB? Not sure the depth is there either. Especially given Charbs’ injury. He may never come back as good as he has been.
Here's hoping he does, though. Heal Up Well, Charbs !
