Man, All-y is a true believer -- in the sense that he gave you thoughtful answers and the reasoning behind them, for essentially nothing as I understand it. Maybe he's a SSJ admirer? Regardless, thx for sending those great questions, we def got the answers we were hoping for!

BTW on NFL.com's draft profile page, both Dodson and Baker's highest scores were for Athleticism at >70% vs the database.

And Jenkins and Wallace's highest scores were also for Athleticism at >80% vs the database

Amending my comment from the previous draft thread, after watching some but not all of the videos above (and, again, proving I know nothing about football), is it reasonable to think of Cooper DeJean as a fit for this scheme? Most mocks have him going to Green Bay at 25. Schneider comes from GB, and so might not mind stealing their player (if DeJean is their player), and that might be a player we could plausibly trade down to get. I realize there's an injury history we're in no position to judge. But the podcaster/experts I follow seem to think he's a tweener who could be CB or S. So that's valuable in this scheme, right?

It's always interesting to hear defensive coaches, when they become head coaches, talk about what they want to be on offense. That's usually a 'tell' with what they know is hard to defend, from trying to stop it on defense. He wants to be a tough, physical team that can run the ball......not that we've never heard a coach say those words before. But it's self evident that 2nd and 8 is easier than 2nd and 5. Your options on defense become smaller the shorter the down and distance (Captain Obvious, I know).

I'm not expecting miracles in year 1. Even if we become a middle of the pack defense that will represent significant improvement. If we are harder to predict pre-snap, are assignment correct more often than not, and can be more fundamentally sound with our tackling, that will be vastly more enjoyable to watch, even if the outcomes aren't exactly what we want right away.

Awesome that All-22 was willing to do this and great info provided. And thanks SSJ for having the idea to do this. Reason #5,739 why reading SSJ is THE smart thing for Seahawks fans.

The ability to adjust as a coach is perhaps one of the most underrated qualities in sportsball. I am worried about our ability to stop the run, but hopefully DUR-DEE can make that a point of emphasis this year while MacD make the big boy calls.

Either way, the prospect to actually make an adjustment and not hold onto a prayer in the fourth quarter will be a welcomed change as a Seahawks fan.

Thanks for using my question and for the info and links to understand better. I believe Mac is an adjuster and will use and figure out mostly what will work for this upcoming team via personnel. As bad as we have been on D the last few years I just don't see how the Hawks cannot be better than they've been. I see a rise to at least middle of the pack and if they get the o-line to play at least a bit better, even with a reasonably tough schedule I think they can be at least a Ten win team!

Quick question unrelated to this article, I see everyone talking about Dee Eskridge is now relevant due to the new kickoff rules. In my opinion, K9 is the guy built for this rule. In K9 I see a returner who not only has speed, but change of direction quickness and the ability to create a missed tackle or two. The kick return coverage team must cover sideline to sideline, spreading them out. This makes it perfect for a guy who can break though that first line of coverage. Maybe I have to go back to Eskridge's college tape, but I haven't seen much in the way of change of direction quickness and breaking ankles of tacklers skills. Speed is the only thing I've seen from him, yet I haven't seen his straight line speed translate at all into a real threat.

In game adjustments were not a strong point during Pete's tenure. Sometimes even half time adjustments were either rare or ineffective. I hope we will better under Mac. Confusing the QB is a great pass defense and lt leads to turn overs. We were way to predictable in the past, offensively and defensively.

I like the new attacking D much better than the old bend but don't break model that resulted in terrible time of possession percent ages.

Looking forward to the new season!

I'll opine that JReed can be solid at run stuffing. Wondering whether Cam Young and Hankins are going to help much. I feel confident in Big Cat and D'MJ, and wondering if Mike Morris is going to show real promise.

Those were great answers. I like how All 22 doesn't really sugar coat it. Mike Mac is going to have to step up the run defense to play in the NFC West against the likes of the Rams and Niners. Will be an interesting chess match. Also, maybe part of the reason the investment in D-line. Need to stop the run to get to those passing downs.

Great stuff.
