I loved Pete and what he stood for, but I'm excited for someone more strict. I truly think that the Cardinals win to end the season was part of why Pete was fired. You had Woolen sticking his hands down his pants in a crude gesture and Bush deserved ejection. And somehow, that was our only game without a penalty. But as we were being eliminated from the playoffs, Jody watched those two act like clowns, and I doubt the locker room cigars helped much either. I'm of the opinion that Pete needed assistant coaches who would be hard asses for him. And established players who would do it. Yeah, Bobby got up in Bush's face and told him to knock it off, but we used to have a whole defense of players like that. The player-friendly culture works when you have enforcers. It seemed to fall apart when they started leaving. And it was a lot more than just talent that moved on or was aged/injured out of the game. That leadership was vital.

I am in lock step With Seaside Joel, regarding Geno Smith, and Drew Lock. to get to the Super Bowl you must have an outstanding quarterback. Good enough is simply not good enough .

Is Drew lock in the upper echelon, I don’t know, he has certainly given indications that he may be. there is only one way to find out, and that is to play him. If he is, that’s great we may have something., if not, then we know that he will be just another quarterback, who did not live up to his potential. You gather yourself, pick yourself up and move on, just like all of us have done at one time or another..

I am most concerned about off-ball LB. We don't currently have any and Spotrac has Brooks at 13.5m APY and Queen at 18m. I guess we could draft the 2 fastests guys in the 3rd round but we also don't have any IOL.

SO... for the #1 priority business at hand...

WHAT nickname are we gonna give him??

Mike Mac

McMike

The low-hanging fruit of: M², M&Ms

Emmy

Regardless, McDonald has me "Lovin' It" right now. I hope he smashes it like a clam-shell burger grill and signs Grimace to a DL contract. Hmmmm.... maybe we can dub him Big Mac. Maybe I'm just hungry.

Rapidly on the train of, if we want a Rd 1 tackle (or any rd1 non-qb) we should be shopping a trade down. See if we can get that 2nd back or an additional one next year.

On Geno, i know some roster bonus is due on the 16th, but let's say we run him out for 2024 what are the exit strategies in 2025? Could it be worth dealing with his cap this year to clear other areas, then switch QB for 2025 and bank the space off Geno one year early?

It feels like oxygen just got pumped back into the VMAC. No idea how this will all turn out, but this will be such an interesting offseason now, it's going to be a lot of fun following the team along for the journey. A few thoughts;

- JS must have been REALLY impacted by what he saw when the Ravens defense made the Seahawks offense look like a high school team. Even Pete praised what they were doing on defense after the game, mentioning the great scheme, and how well they executed it. John was probably wondering why Pete and Clint couldn't get our team to execute at the same level.

- I have little remaining doubt that John and Pete did not see the team the same way over the past couple of seasons. We may never know, but I don't think John backed up Pete in the owners meeting at the end of the season.

- It will be interesting to see whether the coaching staff ends up being centered on people Mike Mac brings in, or with people that he and John agree on from all over the league. I do agree with the point that one 'seasoned' coach would be a good idea, so Mike has someone with experience to lean on as he finds his way in the new role. Not Pete Carroll (love you Pete, but no).

Cool stuff, I am definitely ready for it.

I think the first round is a prime position for an OT. And I watched a lot of safeties and Linebackers who may be available with our native 3rds the last weeks.

Here is a list to go check them:

S Cole Bishop

S Calen Bullock

S James Williams

LB Payton Wilson

LB Edgerrin Cooper

LB Tommy Eichenberg

LB Omar Speights

You're getting me excited. So good for you. I loved/hated the Ravens defense against us, but when I saw how they handled all those other teams like SF, I came to admire them, and I have to take credit for the idea of having a defense that is unreadable. I thought of that before Macdonald was alive. It's exciting to see the idea implemented so well in Baltimore, and wow, it sure is exciting to think our defense could take a significant step forward in that direction.

We need at least one or two new LB's. We need Mike Morris to take a step forward and be healthy. We need to sign Leonard Williams. And what if Mike Jackson takes another step up? There is too much work to do to expect it to all get sorted out in one offseason, but we can dream, and it sure should look different.

Other than the OL and maybe TE, we can neglect the offense. Take a late round flier on a QB to compete and backup. A two year $15 million offer to Lock seems perfect. Or maybe go with the guy from Cinncy who played for the Huskies? Weak armed, but seems to see the field well. Saw some film of Joe Montana and they are both weak armed. Proving decision making and vision are the more important skills.

The most important thing MM is going to do is picking his coaching staff. Once those names start dropping I think everyone will have a better idea on how this is going to go next year

On Geno - we will know soon enough- his salary is guaranteed (Roster bonus is not) the Friday following the Super Bowl. So the big cap savings requires the Seahawks to cut him in the next 15 days. The best veteran replacement is Russel Wilson, who I honestly think would retire rather than come back to Seattle. Seahawks have the 16th pick and yes the top three teams need a qb. Unless the Patriots are rolling with Mac Jones, who makes Geno look like Patrick Mahomes by comparison. The most interesting QB available by trade is Fields probably a third round pick, I don’t think Geno is getting cut but If I am Geno I am hoping it happens. Geno has 21, million in new money. To break even he just needs to sign for 21 million guaranteed and he should be able to do that very easily because it involves minimal cap hit this year 21 million signing bonus with voidable third year and vet minimum and 20 million next year: Cap hit this year 8 million, cap hit next year 28 million And if here are teams that are going to pay it. The Steelers need a bride QB. The Raiders need a bridge QB, the Falcons and Broncos may need a Bridge QB. Genos competition is Russel Wilson. Russel can go to the Raiders. Geno can go to the Steelers. I hope that happens for him. I also hope Lockett who is mortal lock to be cut, signs with Chiefs. He deserves that.

If JS, who has seen him extensively and has an opportunity to move on now, and or new coach, who gamplanned the shit out of him, don't immediately move on from him, then we know with 100% certainty that he IS a value at his number and that they'll keep him as a bridge QB until they find someone better. I don't think any 2 other non-biased people could have any better information on Geno.

I still have no feel for how the guy will do. First time head coaches are always a crapshoot. I just hope he surrounds himself with good coordinators and position coaches and the right staff. Worth a watch, this “quiet introvert” running defensive drills.

I have been calling for a D since about 97 or so with a super fast FS ( we had one)- Sherm Type at One corner and a decent corner on the other side. Kam type at normal SS then a guy like DW (that they have now) at the fifth free wheeling roamer /safety /corner( Got to be very smart and good tackler that works with your Mike at calling plays or at least relaying them and is the guy that is everywhere! )! So In Mac's D a 3/4 -a Big Ugly in the middle and the starters J Reed on one side and the Big cat on the other at DT's! So you need basically two Middle type linebackers that can run in the middle and Boye and Uchenso (sp) at the OSLB /rush ends! This with a Guy that is the man at DW 's position and gets it would Kick BUTT! Give it some thought? Put it on paper in 98 and had many of my friends say I was nuts - but it would be what I would run - Other than I would probably run a 4/3 instead of a 3/4!!!

I really like the hire. The thing that I value most is how his players speak about him. Young or old it doesn’t matter, what matters is having guys buy in and setting a high bar that the players are willing to sacrifice to reach. It’s about growth and challenging oneself.

Obviously talent matters, which I believe we have. From there it’s about optimizing that talent through motivation and scheme. I believe our new coach can do that.

I like that we went with a candidate who has a reputation of working hard, has been promoted based on merit and leads by example. I’m not saying PC didn’t do that, but I do think age eventually catches up to us all.

I am also supportive of moving on from Geno and giving Lock a shot to start. I have no issues if the leadership decides to move on from large veteran contracts as long as we preserve leadership in the locker room and give guys room to grow. That’s exactly the kind of thinking that led to the Seahawks winning a Super Bowl.

Go hawks!!!!!!
