DREAM Draft - 1) GA DT, Jordan Davis 2) UI C, Tyler Linderbaum 2) WSU OT, Abraham Lucas *2) UM Edge, David Ojabo (trade 2023 Denver's #1 for this year's #2 to draft - pay next year for 1st round talent that cannot be used until next year - easily worthy) - 3) MSU LB, Troy Andersen - Five Difference-making STUDS. Each are Super athletic with Pro Bowl ceilings...follow up with a typical JS/PC day three...Yep, this group will make our draft Special! - Am I wrong?
Every draft I turn out to be wrong on as many players as I'm right on, so put no stock what I'm about to say. With that disclaimer, I'd be elated to come away from the #9 pick with Stingley, Jameson Williams, or Jordan Davis. I know OL, and particularly T is the biggest area of need, but I think the big 3 will be gone by 9, and I would much rather have the #1 or 2 guy at a less needed position than the 4th-5th graded tackle. Overall I'd prefer we draft defense, with the exception of Jameson if he's still there. I'm just smitten on that guy as a prospect. I've watched so much of him I'll have his college highlights in my "recommended for you" section of YouTube for a long time.
DOMINANT run defense. I call that production. He forces an Offensive Coordinator to adjust his entire damn game plan around him. He occupies 2-3 blockers per play. But could it be because he's surrounded by NFL players? Could be!
I do know Georgia was so good on defense that I guy like JD never got to show all the things he can do. I am a little worry he tires easy because he is packing a lot of weight. His 4.77/ 40 and other testing was astounding. Not quite sure how you are using positional value ? Traditionally a nose tackle or inside lineman doesn't go in the top 10 where a corner does. Could you explain if you have time
Pete's rules for defense: 1) Stop the run. 2) Pressure the QB. 3) Repeat.
I have come to the exact same conclusion. There is no one who is more a fit for Pete's philosophy than Jordan Davis. Pete's Draft Rules: 1) Improve our team. No one in this draft other than possibly Evan Neal or Thibodaux will improve our team more than Jordan Davis. I doubt even Neal or Thibodaux are considered more important to improving our team than Jordan Davis.
yeah, I would have to agree now... Jordan Davis over Evan Neal. It's neck and neck for me with Thibodeaux. Similar values as football players, but maybe Jordan Davis has a higher ceiling honestly.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out with not only the draft but the UFDA signings and FA's. I have seen Seattle mocked with Davis. I have also heard that this is not a great year of DL guys with Davis being one of the exceptions. I noticed that Staton has a trade down in round one to 15 and adding 3 more picks. Here's his final mock The full Seahawks seven-rounder
#15 — Trevor Penning (T, Northern Iowa)
#40 — Tyler Linderbaum (C, Iowa)
#41 — Channing Tindall (LB, Georgia)
#72 — Dameon Pierce (RB, Florida)
#101 — Michael Clemons (DE, Texas A&M)
#109 — Logan Bruss (G, Wisconsin)
#124 — Thayer Munford (T, Ohio State)
#145 — Percy Butler (S, Louisiana)
#153 — Romeo Doubs (WR, Nevada)
#162 — Carson Strong (QB, Nevada)
#229 — Jaylen Watson (CB, Washington State)
And a quick comment by him, " I like this group, frankly. It’s not flashy. It’s a building-block class with a lot of focus on the trenches. I’m fine with that."
DT Devonte Wyatt is my #one pick for the DL. Wyatt (the bull) appears to be quicker at powering thru narrow gaps. For several yrs now I've been pounding the table that the Seahawks have lacked the caliber DT talent needed to collapse the middle pocket and stuff the run to make the Seahawks a SB contender again. If the DL can't collapse the middle of the OL pocket, it allows the QB to step forward (after dropping back to setup) to avoid the edge rushers, in order to find someone open down field to throw too.
If the DL can quickly collapse the middle of the pocket, it would force the QB to scramble to the left or right (more often) into the hands of the edge pass rushers. Puna Ford would be perfect as a rotational player, to keep the DL fresh. But I believe he needs REAL caliber help to keep consistent pressure on the QB, making the CB job that much easier. Devonte Wyatt would help take care of that problem!! Thanks Ken for the walk down memory lane. I've always believed that Defense wins games, and Pete knows that for a fact from his winning record at USC. Sorry for the rambling..
I've gone back and forth between the two, but in my final analysis, Wyatt is more suited to a 4-3 than a 3-4 unless he is used as one of the outside DT in a 3-4, but we don't actually have a true NT to dominate with a 3-4. Jordan Davis is THAT guy.
I still like Sauce but he is probably gone. If Davis is there you are building the team from the middle. If he can be affective in the pass he would be just what the Dr ordered. Georgia played a very disciplined defense and players didn't stray from their roles. Perhaps he can be a Thorne in the QBs side. We know how valuable that is from the inside. We know this by the best interior player of my time Aaron Donad. You know Davis will be in the backfield stopping the run. Good choice if Sauce is not there. Sorry I am hung up on him but Davis is a freak monster
Plus, even though he won the NCAA DPOY, Davis is Not at his peak! The Man will learn to release faster in addition to his spectacular pocket crashing. Put that dude at Left End on passing downs to have him penetrate along side a lightning quick Edge outside of him. No right-handed QB will want to pass to their strong-side at all. I like David Ojabo as a 3rd #2 this year (traded for next year's Denver #1) - next year we will have Ojabo, Taylor and Davis making a jail-break for the QB!
My worry with Ojabo is he has played very little football and needs on field reps. There is no doubt he is an athletic freak. He is strong mentally and physically
I'm good with this! I know the O-line needs help big time, but I'm a D guy and if you can't stop your opponent you're not winning anything! Just don't forget to fill in the other holes. We've got the capital, just spend it wisely.

My only issue with Davis is that he wasn't that productive at Georgia. Historically, Pete/John have looked for college production.
I love the potential, but the lack of college production screams "bust" to me

Since 2011, there have been 17 DTs drafted in the top-15 picks, compared to eight CBs drafted in the top-15 picks.
Gee I was really off on that. I thought edge was a top ten and the rest of the D line were 15 or more. Thanks for the info

DA-VIS, DA-VIS, DA-VIS! Personally, I'm all in on Davis! Woo Hoo!

Let the games begin

Devonte Wyatt may be as good or better! So hard to say.
My mistake, mental error. I've been sick for awhile and my mind is still lost in a fog bank.
No I agree with you-Devonte Wyatt stands out on tape without Davis even on the field. He's awesome.
I still like Sauce but he is probably gone. If Davis is there you are building the team from the middle. If he can be affective in the pass he would be just what the Dr ordered. JD and Sauce are neck-and-neck. This may be controversial, but I think Davis has actually has better positional value.
I don't know if you are right, but I would love it if you were. Thanks, Kenneth!
Thanks Martin!

I agree, build the D!
