2nd and 3rd round again set up well for BPA cluster to choose from for IOL and LB/ Edge/ and potential for TE/safety value Myers/Myers (hard to pass on either). Clusters repeats around 50. Hopefully a very good draft becomes back to back great drafts tonight.
Such a Deep draft for RB position this year. I truly think we can get a bonafide 1b RB in Kenny McIntosh (UGA) in the 4th-round. Zach Evans (Old Miss) is For Real. There are a number of others worthy of late 3rd to 4th round availability this year.
With cap issues, no need to pay a veteran who have those miles on them when fresh RBs typically perform quite well as soon as game one. Cap is needed for vets like Al Woods or Puna Ford as rookie D-linemen - even first rounders - usually are not difference makers first year.
Alright Kenside Seajoe, who do you think they grab with their next pick? Is there danger of them missing out on Tippman if they don't grab him with 37? Will there be any really good OL left at their next pick? Do they go DL at 37?! I must know your thoughts, I paid you $5, damnit!!
I like Tippmann but I would love to know how Steve Hutchinson evaluated him (and Schmitz and Wypler). Take the guy Hutch says is best.
There are a couple guards available today that could also push to start over Haynes as rookies. Can Seattle repeat last year’s amazing accomplishment of two solid rookie tackles with two more solid interior linemen?!
I will repeat my prior posts by saying that the OL is where the greatest draft need is - Geno NEEDS better protection. I think there is a good status quo this year at TE, especially if Parkinson can become a true red zone monster (why he hasn’t already become that I don’t know.) Fant only needs to step up a small notch and Dissly is just fine being the great blocker and surehanded receiver that he is. I think that leaves DL & LB as the remaining draft priorities. Neither position typically has rookie sensations who are consistent; the great ones need at least 1 year of experience. I think SJoe & others here are right about RB2 or 3 coming from free agency. I also think DeeJay has shown great potential and might well surprise us pleasantly this year. Plus, nobody in the NFL has a more winning grin. 😝. I still wish Dee Eskridge the best - he's got a ton of speed and athleticism, and PC hinted that his offseason training was strong (maybe transformative, w/increased durability?) Punt or kick return depth would be nice from him. Hoping that Dareke can find his groove, and that Alton Robinson can live up to his potential.
Delay does seem like a great guy. He has been a quality kick and punt returner. He is not a threat to take it to the house, when he returned kickoffs he almost always got it past the 25 yard line. Most often he would reach the 30 or better. When he started to feel comfortable returning punts he had some very nice gains. I don't want to put the hex on him, let's just say he has safe hands
I know the CW is to draft an IOL with #52. But I say that if they want an IOL, press the advantage they with #36 and use that on the best one available rather wait and get whoever might left over.
BTW, Ray Roberts says that Lewis does not use his legs effectively when blocking, which I took to mean a tendency to lunge. That strikes me as a deficiency that Lewis would have fixed at this point in his career unless there is an inherent issue with balance. If that’s the case, Lewis is what he is…
Chris Simms on Pro Football Talk was saying this morning that there was "no one" who saw the Witherspoon pick coming. I knew differently; I was not shocked because I read Seaside Joe. And I was super excited instead of shocked because I had already seen his film linked on Seaside Joe. Nailed not only the pick but how this player fits Pete's philosophy and that Pete would probably love this player. I can say that you nailed that piece too because Pete is smitten.
Yeah, I watched that too. What he was talking about this morning was nobody matching Witherspoon to the Hawks at 5. Most of the mocks that I saw had one of Carter/Wilson/Richardson going to them at 5 and Witherspoon going 6 to Detroit or 7 to LV. In fact, I'd bet that Detroit was going to take him at 6 but traded down after he was taken at 5.
Mayer and Tippman would be a coup! The defense wouldn't have to worry as much about getting gassed because they offense would be on the field soooo long...if they wanted...or super short if needing quick strikes.
James Conners would probably come at the right price point, being he is nearer the end of his career than the middle. At least I think the Seahawks would use that during negotiations. He is a beast ! I maybe higher on him than the rest. I do feel comfortable in saying there are few if any who try harder than him. He runs hard between the tackles, and could start if K9 were injured. We know Seattle are not opposed to bringing back former players and I feel Mciasic would be a great fit to round out the runningback room, and fill the role of mostly a pass catching back. On that point I'm not sure why Shane Waldron doesn't pass to the backs that much. This suprises me when you think about the success Todd Gurley had in almost the same offense. Kenneth Walker lll looked good against the Bucs catching passes in the second half of that game. He compiled 55 receiving yards in that half, when the run wasn't working. He moves really well after the catch and could be a real danger to opposing corners and safeties. Perhaps because it was his first year they didn't want to burn him out. We would still need one or two more on the practice squad. I still like the idea of drafting the twin Brown brothers on day three. A bruising back and a hard hitting safety. Seattle has also budgeted to pay their rookies. I know the salary cap is somewhat name only, and the vets I mentioned above could have a big impact.
I'd like a good receiving back who is also a good blocker who could come in on 3rd and manageable. It'd also be nice to have a good FB that is a good lead blocker and receiver for situations like that, basically someone that makes it hard for teams to key in on what we're going to do.
I know fullbacks are dead but I'd like to see Pete find a way to make them relevant again since I don't think teams necessarily prepare for them anymore.
I completely agree, we need a pounder. This is why if we went the free agency route, I would like Conners. I like your prospect, I will add Chad Brown, and the UCLA back who's name escapes me. He might require a 3rd round pick. That bothers me only because I like Mauch a Tackle/ gaurd and Ika Siaki playing in a nose tackle or shade position or two players of that ilk. Siaki is a run stopper, him with AL Wood and who we have already would likely make it easier for B Wags and Bush to make tackles keeping the gain to 3 yards and cloud of dust. I have enjoyed this draft because I think most of us can see the Hawks getting better
I’m a fan of the Utes, and while JSN totally lit us up at the Rose Bowl, note that all plays against No. 2 Bernard were against a RB filling in at CB due to injuries and draft sit-outs. Bernard had never played corner prior to that came. Still excited for him to be a Hawk though!
I too noticed number 2 around tye ball and not making the tackle in a number of highlights. He did have many other good games in 2022. Pete and John were partially sold when he ran the 40 on his Pro day. That P/J that he is a great competitor. No matter what is time was 4.4 something you know he could do better when completely healthy and confident. When you watch most of his games people aren't catching him. I believe he has Doug Baldwin traits mentally and physically. Let's go Hawks
Nice reminder that JSPC knew what they were doing drafting KW3 last year when everyone blasted them for it. I sure am glad I found you, Seaside Joe! Your voice is a sound rational one that we 12s need. Thanks for being you!
I thought our cap situation is too tight to be paying those RBs you mentioned. How would they fit? I really expect them to add Bruce Irvin after the draft, and we need to get both our interior lines some help let's not forget Dre' Jones is now here. Maybe we resign Al Woods and play Dre' as a 3-4 DE with Reed on the other side. If so, we could go with an OL at #37 (Tippman, Mauch, or JMS would be my
Guess since one of them should be there at #37), then add a DL and EDGE to compete with/ back up Woods next or at #83. Then BPA the rest of the way with targets at ILB and RB (Roschon Johnson, please?) I believe them when they say Lock is better than most of the guys in the draft and don't expect them to draft a QB. So far, A+, in my eyes, and I know JSPC has (have?) a plan for more than just this weekend to add to the roster. It is an exciting time to be a 12, y'all!
At the summer stage of the offseason, RBs shouldn't cost more than $1-$3 million. Seahawks should be able to open some cap space for Bruce and maybe one interior DL, if not two. Not that it will be easy, but I expect their cap to keep opening up.

I'm kind of glad I didn't make a final prediction on pick 20. I definitely wanted to lean on it being a WR but I think ultimately I would have picked an edge rusher. Now nobody can blame me for being wrong on half of my predictions haha.

Simms had Witherspoon ranked as the number one corner. He also says Witherspoon is his favorite player in the draft.

I’m enjoying all the “experts” who were blindsided.
if we add Michael Mayer/Torrence/Schmitz/Tippmann/Washington, it would be top 3 offense :-) I just swear I would be so happy if we land Michael Mayer
Mayer and Tippman would be a coup! The defense wouldn't have to worry as much about getting gassed because they offense would be on the field soooo long...if they wanted...or super short if needing quick strikes.

Last year, I was upset when Walker was replaced on passing downs with Homer,
I suppose you could say: better pass protector. I would say a threat out of backfield, negates a rusher who has to account for threat.
We do need a RB2, to keep Walker fresh, although many backs get better as the carries pile on.
I would prefer a bigger back as opposed to a recieving back. I believe Walker has a good set of hands. Would not mind Hunter Luepke, FB from N.Dakota

JSN reminds me a lot of Golden Tate in the way he moves with better route running ability. I don't think that's a bad thing.

I guess since they are RBs, we won't be spending a lot on them. Same for the vets mentioned.
KenJoe, could you even sleep a wink ? ! Whooza !
from Field Gulls: Winners and Losers from Round 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft:
"Admittedly, their (Seahawks) selection at No. 5 surprised a lot of people.
"Not Seaside Joe."
"He NAILED the Devon Witherspoon pick."
Chris Simms on Pro Football Talk was saying this morning that there was "no one" who saw the Witherspoon pick coming. I knew differently; I was not shocked because I read Seaside Joe. However, since you didn't pick, you weren't wrong. Thus...you have a QBR of 158.3. Sort of like the Tom Brady of Seahawks blogs???
Seaside Jay may have to tie a cord to KenJoe when he goes outside so he doesn't float away.
Hahaha. You are right about that probably.
