With respect to no D Bell, Igbinoghene, or Cody White, we’re only allowed to have a maximum of 6 vested veterans on the practice squad. There probably wasn’t room for all three. Maybe there wasn’t room for any. How many vested vets are on the practice squad?
I remember back around 10 years ago or so the initial 53 roster and a player whom I can’t recall was on it. He was so elated that he made it. But in the span of a week he was let go and that was it for him. Never saw him again with the team. I realized nothing is set at making the roster right after training camp. It’s a fluid churn at the bottom of the roster those first several days and on throughout the season.
They kept Jared Ivey on the roster all of last season but he had very little snaps on defense and special teams. They didn’t want to lose him then but with more players added this year he had to become exposed to waivers. It was a calculated risk that resulted in being claimed by Atlanta. It’s hard to get too attached to players like Ivey at the very bottom of the roster. For these players just hanging on and always subjected to roster churn by being signed and then released on a whim, they are just looking for any opportunity to be on any NFL team. I’m sure they would love to be with the Hawks but it’s got to be all about what’s best for them first. We feel for these players constantly on the edge. They live in a hotel room with their bags packed and ready to depart on a moments notice. It’s highly nomadic and undoubtedly stressful. But, for these guys that are young and can potentially make a six figure salary or more based upon their athletic abilities and bodies, this is a hustle they go through. Just being on any practice squad grants someone over $10K a week or whatever. That’s more money made than any blue collar job offers. It’s a small window while young. Real life beckons after the window closes. I have a friend that has a son who was trying to make an NBA roster. He played overseas and was just trying to get on a team. Even the 12th man on the bench is making a league minimum that pays way more than a GM of a luxury hotel’s yearly salary. The son got too old and never got to fulfill his quest. Ivey will be okay. As long as he can stick somewhere he’ll be able to keep his NFL occupation alive and maybe string something long term. Look what Nick Bellore did.
We do have 4 vested vets on the PS, so we only have room for 2 of those 3. Could be added later. They may be looking to sign with a team to get a spot on the 53. If that doesn’t pan out for them. They could make it to our PS.
Seriously, would you rather be the Seahawks without Ivey or the Falcons with Ivey? If JS could see the future, he might have done something different, but I don't think the season hinges on this move.

On another note, the practice squad looks strong so far. With different needs, I could see any of these players making the 53. Once filled out, it will be interesting to see where the depth is, by position. Hopefully, the 70 will have good balance and include players who can be plugged in, if and as needed.
Post updated. Only published a few minutes before the entire practice squad announced. I wonder if AJ Finley or Rodey Thomas will be week 1 callups.

What do you think of safety D’Anthony Bell, cornerback Noah Igbinoghene, and wide receiver Cody White not making the practice squad?

Cutting players is kind of like selling a used car. If nobody wants to buy it, you have to ask yourself if it's really worth what you thought it was.

I would agree that maybe that is a little surprising. He saw action in 14 games last year before he was claimed by Pittsburgh.
