Seahawks prepare for game without Walker, Dickson
Seattle elevates punter, running back off of practice squad for Week 14
The Seahawks elevated newly-signed punter Ty Zenter for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals, indicating Seattle’s preparation to play without Michael Dickson, who is listed as Questionable. The team also elevated running back George Holani, a sign that Kenneth Walker, also Questionable, could be held out as well.
Cornerback Tre Brown was added to the report as Questionable.
ESPN’s Brady Henderson noted that Holani was seen working with the kickoff return unit in practice this week, so the undrafted free agent could be used in that capacity as well. If Walker isn’t ready to go, Zach Charbonnet would make his third start of the season and Kenny McIntosh would be the presumed backup.
Jaelon Darden, claimed off of waivers this week, as well as McIntosh, Holani, Cody White, or possibly even Jaxon Smith-Njigba could be under consideration for sharing return duties against Arizona.
Since 2020, the NFL has kind of rapidly been udpating its practice squad and gameday roster rules every year to allow teams to prepare for the worst without needing to release players on the 53-man roster in order to account for injuries, illnesses, and family matters.
It’s worth mentioning that these Saturday updates for practice squad elevations, now vitally important, didn’t even exist a few years ago. The Seahawks are able to sign a punter on Wednesday and start him the following Sunday without having to release anybody and that’s probably done more to change the NFL’s backend roster churn more than anything else that’s happened in recent memory.
Zentner could punt 8 times on Sunday (hopefully he doesn’t punt one time) and never be heard from in Seattle again. The Seahawks are able to make these moves step by step, and day by day.
There may not be a Vision Board today, so if you want to comment your picks for players of the game, predictions, and/or concerns, please do it here:
Seaside Joe 2107
Byron Murphy II and Jarran Reed get sacks. Cards concentrating on Leonard Williams affords opportunities.
Time for a Witherspoon pick 6.
Geno 3 passing TDS.
May the 12s be with you and Go Seahawks!
IF the Seahawks are going to beat the Cards it is going to take a much better effort (and results) from the offensive side of the ball. The D has been scoring points but that can’t be counted on. I expect the Cards to put up more than 6 tomorrow and I think Geno and Co will need at least 24 for a victory. That hasn’t happened in a while. Could this be the game where the Seahawks get all three phases in sync? Let’s hope so!
