As I'm sure we all are, I'm really hoping KW3 isn't going to miss time. He's a difference maker in whether we have much of a shot these last 5 games. I don't see this as a team that will make noise in the playoffs; they needed everything they could muster to beat a Rams team of largely scrubs and backups. But it's still been a remarkable season considering where we were projected and it would be fantastic to make the post season after trading Russ and cutting Bobby. I'm incredibly optimistic about next season.

Speaking of Bobby, I'm not one to bitch about refs but I don't see how that was an interception. Even without it he had a monster game though and hats off to him. Unlike many fans, I was decidedly NOT rooting for Bobby in this game nor happy that he showed out. When the Rams play us, I hope he has the worst games of his career, just as I wish for any member of the Rams (and the Broncos for 5 more games). I'll root for the Texans, Panthers, Bears and Lions for their next 5 games with the exception of Panthers@Seahawks. Wouldn't it be insane if we actually got the #1 overall pick from the Russell Wilson trade? So many were predicting it would be in the 30s before the season. And the 2nd rounder would practically be another first. I keep hoping that the Broncos decide to hang it up and pull their stars for the rest of the season, but I doubt Russ wants that. But there isn't anything to play for and injuries this late in the season often mean players aren't ready to come back week 1 the following year. But I bet the high draft pick is a little extra motivation in these scenarios usually.

Sorry for rambling. Go 'Hawks!

Ankle Issues...

Rashaad Penney ankle (IR), Kenneth Walker III ankle, Travis Homer ankle, DJ Dallas ankle, Jones Jr new to team...who else? How about Dareke Young - used as a 'tweener' in college...

Rushing stats: 88 attempts - 658 yards - 8 TDs - 57 long - 7.5 average...not all jet sweeps either as he was used out of the backfield...come to think of it, I was pushing for him to be a FB as he has a big body and a passion for blocking. Not bad as someone to try on if we are short bodies for the RB gig...lets hope his ankles hold up!

Wolford passing: 14 for 26 for 178, 0 TDs, 2 Ints, 6.8 yard avg.

Rams rushing: 33 carries for 171 yards, 5.2 yard avg, 2 TDs.

I'm not an Xs and Os scheme guy, but surely the Hawks defense didn't go into this game thinking we gotta shutdown the Wolford to Atwell connection if we want a shot at winning. After the last two games if the coaching staff didn't anticipate the Rams trying to run it down their throats, then they don't deserve their paychecks. I don't pretend to know how they fix this issue, but I doubt it's as simple as switching back to a 4-3 front (but maybe it is). The point is against the bucks you blame it on planning for Brady, and against the Raiders you blame it on planning for Adams, but now I think you have to blame it on the coaches and players for not executing the game plan well enough. Excuses are like lies, in that the best are based on truth, and the excuses for the previous two losses are falling apart after this win. The panthers aren't good, but if they have a strength on offense it's running the ball. I'm worried.

But we still won, so yay!!!

I wasn't able to get into the chat. Didn't see an option for it on my Android substack app. Would have liked to join.

Seemed to me like the Rams played with much more intensity than the Hawks. They didn't have a lot of talent but they compensated with effort. Wagner led that effort, leaving a ton of sweat and blood on the field.

Would love to know why Walker and Geno were in conflict on the sideline. Hoping it's not serious though we'll likely never find out.

We'll likely never know what the scuffle on the sideline between Geno and K9 was about but I have an idea. A few plays previous, the Rams ran a delayed blitz off of the offense's right side. K9 was leaking into the flat and almost ran into the blitzer. In fact, K9 stepped around the oncoming Ram who then sacked Geno. I think Geno said, "What the Lock were you thinking? Get in that guy's way. Wake up rookie!" It was a bush league play by K9.

Hard to know. What we saw on the sideline was primarily Walker jawing at Geno and pointing his finger. He seemed to be complaining to a coach and then it spilled over. Geno seemed like he was responding but in a much calmer way. So it didn't seem like Geno was upset with Walker. Seemed the other way around. At least to me.

I wondered if K9 didn't return in the 2nd half partly because Pete told K9, "Geno is our quaterback and a vet, you're a rookie. Why don't you stay here in the locker room and think about that."

I don't have that sense at all. He was on the sideline getting treatment for his foot. The trainer bandaged the foot and he got his cleat back on. Then they showed him trying to stand on it and he appeared to be in pain. Looks to me like an injury. Typically, during the game it's all about winning. It's not like they were ahead by three touchdowns. After the game, stuff can get sorted out.

We won, so good game.

I don't know how that was an interception. Seems like his knee was down before Wags took the ball. More bad officiating.

Washington and NY could not score any points in OT. Strangely bad?

Coastal Carolina is going bowling!

I could not get the chat to work. I will try it again next week.

I think the ball was moving before he hit the ground. As best I could see, though it's hard to tell/ Also, it was called that way on the field and there wasn't enough evidence to overturn on replay. It's such a bang-bang sort of thing. Can't fault the refs for calling it that way, even if it's not clear whether he got it right. Can't fault the guys in the booth. They were following the rules.

Again, another accurate, blunt commentary on the seahawks. The D. So damn bad I was tempted to walk away from the game. THIS is the improvement from last week's disaster on D. What in the hell did these guys practice all week!! They started where they left off last week. This is NOT PROGRES. Like my comment last week, at this pro level, players should KNOW how to tackle. pressure on the QB, what the hell is that with this D. Out D is an embarrassment, period.

Geno, ok, he did well enough to get us W. BUT, man, the guy seems to have no pocket awareness. At least RW could sense someone bearing down on him (well most times) Geno has no clue. He just gets sacked.

Horrible day in my opinion for Brooks. Caught inside, no edge setting, chasing guys who had blown by him.

Man, our RB position is/could be a mess. Between injured RBs and less than stellar run game blocking, we need some attention, focus and health improvement.

Ramsay. What a cheep shot, yappy asshole that is past his prime.

Officiating. At least it was Horrible both ways but the Bobby INT was total BS.

Bobby was hell on wheels tonight.

I think Geno has good pocket awareness but he's never going to be a magician like Wilson used to be or Mahomes is now. He was pressured a ton the last three weeks. It's like the offensive line has hit a wall and the RBs forgot how to block.

I agree - he has good awareness and doesn’t flinch in the face of it. Because of that, he is a huge improvement on the skittishness that Russ exhibited towards the end here (and continues to show in Denver). He stands tall and hangs in there to make a play when Russ would already be turtling - it’s part of the difference between having the QB with the highest completion percentage in the NFL, or stuck with the one with the lowest.

Yes these front seven players aren't superstars. But when they make the worst offenses in the league look like all stars, there has to be something wrong with the coaching and scheme as well.

Brooks was a late first rounder. Barton a second. Mafe a second. Poona and Woods played well in other systems. Hell even though he's old Bruce Irvin was a mid-first. Something is horribly wrong for it to be this bad, especially since Pete values the run defense AND THEY KNOW THE TEAMS ARE GOING TO TRY TO RUN.

I'm not a coach, not a film guy, but I don't think you can say if we added a game-wrecker this would all be fixed.

Poona has only played for the Seahawks and college doesn't matter.

Al Woods is currently playing the best football of his career. From 2010 to now he's been on eight different teams with his longest tenure being two years.

Yes Poona only played for the hawks--but was very good in the prior scheme, and has kind of disappeared in this one. Woods playing well now also highlights my point--this isn’t something that an infusion of talent alone will fix.

Just want to comment on the 4th down conversion Seattle gave up. Was I the only one who was saying “watch the Woolford bootleg!”?? Unbelievably bad contain on that side and wasn’t even that. It’s like no one even hypothesized it.

zezinhom400's avatar

So by my count at least 8 of us saw that boot coming, yet Hurtt and Brooks didn't? Or, someone really missed a contain but I don't think so bc there was only one guy -- and late -- over there. Just a bad defensive call then?

Actually, just watched it again several. Irvin and Bryant were both on the outside and either could have contained; and Brooks also could have contained. But Irvin penetrated and overran (think he did the right thing there); Bryant bit on the fake and also moved upfield (needed more patience for sure), which allowed the TE to reach him when he tried to get back; and Brooks took two steps upfield and then lost the angle on pursuit although is the one who ended up getting the "tackle". He definitely needed more patience before turning upfield.

But any of the three could be held culpable, and in any case the communication was poor bc all three gave up the contain. But for my money, I think Brooks or Bryant on that one. Prob Brooks since he makes the defensive calls out there.

You know who that play made me miss? KJ Wright, even though he was usually to the other side. He always spotted out that shit.

Last week I was critical of DK for not being 'the guy' that he is capable of being, but today he showed he can do it. Lockett performed the way we have come to expect, so a good day for the WRs and Marquise Goodwin played well also.

I have always liked Deejay and was happy he was drafted by the Seahawks. He is a tough dude and showed that today, big time. He doesn't have KW3's speed or moves but he does all right. Whether it is Homer or Deejay I want to see more 2-back sets with KW3 to keep the D guessing pass/run. All three are capable pass receivers as well as runners.

Run D... I was really disappointed to see the Rams running on our D after the last two weeks. It makes me think this is not a scheme problem as much as it is personnel--we simply need some DL upgrades.

It could be somewhere in the middle— technique and execution are at least part of the problem too.

When you factor the challenge of the kicks, Myers is the second best kicker this year, behind only the GOAT Justin Tucker.

I knew Homer would be missed, and he was indeed. This is an easy game with Homer in. Geno may have even came out clean. We also probably force a fumble in one of the punts the rams fielded. But the impact to special teams was lower than I expected.

Tre Brown was put at the right time. This game should have been easy. It’s the perfect place for him to commit quasi-redshirt rookie mistakes.

I like Brooks and, to a lesser degree, Barton. Barton does great things, then awful things. Brooks used to be so reliable bringing guys down, he stepped back a little this year, but I don’t think he’s a liability.

I didn't see the whole game, but I thought the LBs played pretty well. Honestly it seems like the main issues for the run defense is inconsistent line play and poor safety play. The offensive lineman get to the second level too often and on the really big runs the safeties don't keep a lid on it. I could be wrong for sure, but it feels that way to me

I am in NO position to say that the Seahawks LBs played poorly and I will leave that up to the experts.
