I'm looking at the Top 100 and Jalen Hurts comes in at #19.
Seriously, if we were to learn that Geno had been traded for Hurts, would we immediately be saying "Wow, Super Bowl here we come!!"
This man plays behind the best OL in the league, has top 5 WRs and Saquon Barkley as a worry for the opposing DC's. And a defense that makes sure he's playing with the lead most of the time.
I just don't see it. But hey, maybe you guys do, naybe I'm missing something?
Relatedly, appears Seattle is hosting G Dalton Risner for a visit. If it were to materialize, the assumption in the following article is Bradford goes to 2nd string which would put even more pressure on Haynes
But, given the honestly big jump Bradford has made on several levels (attitude, work ethic, conditioning, and practice/preseason performance), isn’t the other possibility that Risner slots in at LG and Zabel becomes our next Pro Bowl center? He has every tool for success at Center in a Kubiak offense
Knight is not going on PUP... He would have to currently be in PUP, which could have only happened start of trading camp. Knight has to be on the initial 53. They can then move him to IR and add some one who either cleared waivers or veteran enough to not go through waivers (MVS or Lock) might be candidates there.
Ivey has been playing DL not Edge. He's more in competition with Morris. Watching his tape, he's strong and long and slow. His game is disruptive, but he may not finish enough. He's a unique player.
I don’t get why Trice Knight’s status is so guarded? I get players get injuries and need rest, but ILB is a very key position. Do we need to make a trade or see that other teams do with their 53 player challenge first. Seems a little unclear about his status for this season. He a a great player when’s he healthy. Thoughts???
I think if Chenna is available for week 1, Ivy will likely not make the team. Bobo will not be cut, and I think Young has done enough. MVS getting cut would not be surprising. Walker, Charbs, Ouzts, and Holani I think will be the backs, but hopefully we get some of the others back on the practice squad. Brady Russell I look at like Bobo. Heart and Soul guy, and he doubles as a TE and FB, and likely ends up a captain on ST's. Keep Brady.
For the o-line, I think Jerrell, Richman, and Cabeldue will stick. Haynes and Laumea maybe not. Richman looked good at guard, less good at RT.....at least in pass sets. If they like him inside, then somebody gets displaced. Olu I'm not sure about either. Could be insurance for Sundell at center, but if they like some of their guards there, maybe he doesn't make it either.
If some options at iLB present themselves during cutdowns, I think they'll explore them. I'm not sold on O'Connell or Thomas.
Tough time of year for GM's, Coaches, and Players. Lots of fretting about the guys we let go, but not that many guys get picked up after cuts and added to the active roster, so hopefully we get the key guys back on the practice squad.
"You can’t just claim. You have to claim and cut somebody."
True enough. In which basis, is there a position among these where the dispensible guy on another team might be a viable option? It doesn't feel like any of these positions are _that weak_.
Hankins will go on IR or injury settlement and cut.
Walker reminds me an awful lot of Penney 2.0
; always dinged up. The most important attribute for a player is availability. I would be open to trade offers for Walker and Haynes.
Bobo is dependable and great on special teams. MVS trade him or cut him. He cannot play on special teams and he has a significant injury history, more or less a niche player ; we have younger players with better ability
Jake Bobo is our Clutch Player. He also appears to be a big part of the glue that holds the men together. Witness his last TD catch and observe the happy passion among the men knocking him around and his sheer joy being on the receiving end of their abuses. Elevating spirits can not be easily ignored. It's an intangible. Plus he is a butt-kicker on Special Teams. My other concern is keeping really big men to fill the holes which will come in the trench positions. Witness the trouble we had when Stone Forsythe had to be brought in. Obviously a last resort. It forced us into the quick passing plays. The Run was dead. MM's demands for physical play will be needing these guys as injuries mount. No If, And or Buts. That reality will impose itself.
And not to mention Seattle bringing in Hendrickson. Per pundits it’s going to happen. Bengals looking for a good draft pick (no longer only first) and an upcoming defensive player. ;-))))
Side note. Can’t remember who (Danno???) that wanted Shamar. Read this “His work ethic, burst and attitude led to either a pressure, sack, batted pass or tackle for loss in nearly every practice.” Signed and now crushing it.
After reading all the comments so far, I want to give a shout out to J. Wright instead of Marinez. Marinez looked way better against K.C. but he still didn't look as good as Wright, who played exceptional in the first preseason game. They could probably both get by waivers, so I'd probably cut them both to make room for a guy like Ivey who probably won't get by waivers, but eventually get one of Marinez or Wright back on the 53. Wright and Marinez are nearly identical, body wise.
Well worded. As an out of state Hawks fan who did grow up in Seattle my daily reads and watches for my Hawks have been yourself and Hawk Blogger daily. Bloggers post today he just flat out cut MVS, Haynes and Hankins. Keeping 9 OL with Olu as backup center and had both OL draft picks now over Haynes. Kept Young over MVS as WR 5 and had Ivey as a lock based off all the practices and his daily interviews with coaches/players. Tradeables were Haynes/Martinez and MVS. So both of you as journalists prove daily why you don't just follow narratives so reading today's post proves once again why your daily is my daily. Thank you for always siding with realism over mainstream hyperbole.
As a fan I wanted Haynes to work. Now I'm hoping between him and Martinez we can just swap for some good LB depth and CB depth over Pritchett.
I think some of these cuts will be the result of who they might sign after other teams cuts and who they think will make it to the practice team without being claimed. I believe we would certainly lose Ivey, Pilli and Morris. With the frequency of injuries among RBs, both Haloni and Martinez stay. Haynes or Olu will be gone along with ST coach Harbaugh Jr. if he doesn't solve the return problems PDQ!
Its preseason with 4th and 5th stringers playing ST right now. It's the last position to ever worry about in preseason games. I doubt 1 combination has been the same in 2 games. Literally 2 easy missed tackles are the difference between one of the top or bottom squads in the NFL right now and those 2 misses were by guys that won't make the team
I think it's pretty much set at five: Woolen, Spoon, Jobe, Pritchett, and Griffin. The only question is if someone else stood out, but no one comes to mind. None of the other guys are returning kicks or anything that I'm aware of.
Special teams coverage was looser than I'm used to seeing from the Hawks...better clean it up during the regular season or JH could be updating the ol resume.
Upon further review...Mike Morris looked better than he did last season. But if you watch the plays where he had success, the play was driven into him and he didn't have to necessarily create his opportunities. He took advantage of those opportunities, but they were not totally because of his own efforts.

The longer the vague press conference responses drag on, the more nervous I get.
MacDonald said he was intending on being vague on injuries.
Yes, he's fun that way.

No way Bobo gets cut.

Not a fan of this idea. Mafe could have a year 4 Hendrickson turn in him and isn't nearly as old and may not be as expensive.
I know I’m not either which is why the smirk at the end. So many “pundits” etc putting crap like that out there.

Thanx, Jake. I've been hard on Harbaugh and will let up now I have a deeper appreciation for fielding STs.
How about the Corner Back group? I'm thinking of Griffin in particular.
And it was basic 'stay in your gap' stuff. A couple of them had me shaking my head.
