I don't like Geno. Not as a player and not what I know about him as a person. I don't view him as a leader. He tweets annoying dramatic statements and deletes them. Did anyone pay attention to his statements towards the arresting officers during his DUI arrest? It was Malik McDowell level cringy; saying they had "little d.... syndrome" and "I'll f--k every one of y'all up. You don't want to see me out of these cuffs." And he didn't get his jaw broken in NY over nothing -he agreed to attend the assaulting player's (IK Enemkpali's) football camp and didn't show or pay the airfare. More here, if anyone is interested: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2545457-geno-smiths-fight-with-ik-enemkpali-reportedly-over-600-discrepancy. Rather than Geno getting revenge on his former team, I would feel a sense of cosmic justice if Ryan Fitzpatrick took his job again.
I have no feelings about Drew Lock other than his abilities on the field, which seem backup level. Drew seems a nice enough guy and he's come across as very likeable in interviews so far. He had a tough run in Denver and a coach that didn't believe in him. It would be a nice story for him to overcome that and carve a career out for himself, but I'm skeptical that he has the talent.
I've said as many times as is probably allowed in this comment section that I hope our QB1 for 2022 isn't on the roster yet. Baker and Jimmy G have limitations and neither will likely come as cheap as they should respective to their talent. I don't see the Eagles letting go of "the 'Stache" and I doubt "the beard" coming out of retirement. We're in a pickle. Pete Carroll isn't tanking for a high draft pick, and I don't get the comments suggesting we should. It's not in his DNA. I have to think we're signing somebody, but the options aren't great. I'll still take the field over the QB that Cleveland beat us to. Signing DeShaun would have ended my fandom until he was off the team and I respect the organization far less for even trying to sign a sexual predator as the face of the franchise.
Can't say I've had any awareness on Geno as a tweeter or as a person. I honestly don't think anyone looks good on Twitter, it's almost all cringe to me.
Great post, Chuck. Well said about Smith. I just don't have an ounce of respect for what I've seen off the field. On field, sure, there's 'some' to work with, but if he's the starter, I'll watch with less interest, and might not endure losing with him choosing to just do other.
I don't know how serious Seattle was in the Watson CreepStakes. I would have not watched him play football for the Hawks.
I've liked Pete's take on Lock. He basically said we did draft a QB this year as we wanted Lock the year he came out, he's better than anyone in this draft class, and now we have him with 3 years experience as Denver's expense. IF he's the guy from that rookie season that was doing good things, we'll build the rest of the team with that in place and be just fine. It wasn't the wandering Pete looking for positive comments to keep everyone pumped up, it had resolve and substance from him.
I'm also excited for Rashaad to have a nice year. Penny seems like a good kid that has kind of found himself a bit, and maybe is ready to step into that level of maturity that sticks. He's the same age as Drew, and maybe they form a backfield that surprises? We can hope.
I would actually choose Smith over Lock to start based on his age and experience. He was masterful in that game against the Jags. And I know 'it's the Jags,' but go look at how their defense was playing against other good teams during that stretch. I think they held the Bills to 6 points or something the game before. The Bill are a pretty good football team.
I can't get with Smith because of the off field stuff. That DUI and 'don't judge me till the facts,' stuff is nonsense. Getting punched by a teammate for non payment (in NY) isn't how you build a locker room. As a fan, I have that right to root for who I like. I want Lock to get the spot and succeed.
However, Smith's throws in that game were every bit as pretty as throws Russ makes. And he had Collins and Homer running behind him. Can you imagine Penny on his game, and Walker being a stud, playing behind those kinds of throws?
And IF the defense was seriously pressuring the QB on the other side of the ball?
That could be a good team.
AND, Kenneth, I'd still be for packaging up picks to move UP in the draft if there was a QB worthy.
I don't want to get so far ahead of myself as to talk about the Seahawks trading up in a draft when we don't know the order, who will still be a good prospect, etc. etc. We'll see how the picture looks in February.
The Hawks complete a back half that marks them as an improving team that is still often overmatched.
NYJ: The Jets could well be playing for second place in the AFC East. But a cross-country road trip into the December rains of Seattle is a little much for a young club on the rise. Seattle seizes the opportunity to play their best game of the season. (1-0/6-10)
LAR: Whether or not the Rams need this one doesn’t matter as long as they have our number. Which they do. The Hawks put up a fight, though. (1-1/6-11)
So, I have us at six wins but that includes two that I’m skeptical of. Unless Lock *really* comes on, we’re a 3-6 win team. Which doesn’t mean that I’m writing off the season: If we come out of 2022 confident in our tackles and RBs, with a speedy and aggressive defense, and with DK extended, 2023 will shape up as a breakthrough season.
It's been over 50 years since Broadway Joe and the Jets won the Superbowl. Every bad streak has to end eventually. I don't know that this is the year. Maybe that year won't come in our lifetimes. But one has to be impressed by the talent that's accumulated on that roster.
As for Gino being the better story, not in my book. For me, the perfect story would be if Lock morphed into an elite QB and outplayed Russell Wilson through 17 games. How's that for a story? Were that to happen, screw a top five pick. Lock Lock up and let's roll.
Realistically, we're at best a 7 win team. The under-over in my book is 5. I'd not be surprised if we won 2 or 3. And I'm fine with that. I could get very excited about the 2023 draft.
I gotchya. It certainly legitimized the AFC which, I suppose, in turn, legitimized the merger. As for the march to dominance, was Superbowl III of particular importance? I see lots of tiny steps over time combined with intelligent stewardship combined with social changes that slowly changed the nature of American society. Over time, a more militant sport was better suited to the times than the old pastoral sport that had been number one for generations (and which mismanaged itself through strikes and lockouts, super contentious labor relations and lack of competitive balance).
The competitive balance of the NFL goes a long way toward explaining its dominance but I must say I miss the days of the dynasty. Not that Seattle ever had one, though we're the last team to come within a whisker of two straight Superbowl championships.
Were it not for Mark Sanchez, the Jets could've shocked the world again. Zach Wilson appears to be the most talented QB they've had in my entire life, but we'll see what happens this year. How much of his issues last year were typical growing pains? Between him and the other rookies, you'd think one of them at least pans out.
The best QB the Jets have had in my lifetime is clearly Joe Namath but his knees destroyed his career early. Ken O'Brien is next in my view. Pennington and Testaverde won some games but it came late in their careers so they never seemed like someone to build around. Esiason was a big name who did nothing in New York.
It was the Testaverde game against the Hawks when he feel short of the goal line that brought in replay. Might have even caused us to miss the playoffs
Now that's a piece of trivia. Frustrating from a Seahawks fan perspective but it's the way the cookie crumbles. How often are games won or lost because of blown calls? Takes a lot of luck to go all the way.
Looking for Seahawks games with numbers of memerable plays with rookies getting a lot of experience and the potential to put it all together for next year. Hoping for a season with no major injuries and will not be bummed out by losses. Certainly don't want to be in the middle of the pack draft-wise.
First, I need to eat crow and say I'm really impressed with the Jets and what Selah's doing there. That being said, I'm afraid the only "good" story coming out of Geno starting is how badly the Seahawks need a QB #1. Hoping to be proved wrong on this but I cringe every time Geno takes a snap.
I agree with you ken, I give the edge to Geno Smith winning the starting QB spot. Geno has been waiting along time for his turn to be the first string QB. Hopefully he can pick-up right where he left off from the last game he played.
I don't like Geno. Not as a player and not what I know about him as a person. I don't view him as a leader. He tweets annoying dramatic statements and deletes them. Getting off of social media has been great for my blood pressure.

“We’ll win. I guarantee it.” And then Joe changed pro football forever.
How do you see him changing pro football forever? Do you mean by making it okay for players to behave flamboyantly?
The Jets win legitimized the merger and began pro football’s long march to dominance of American sports.
I gotchya. It certainly legitimized the AFC which, I suppose, in turn, legitimized the merger. As for the march to dominance, was Superbowl III of particular importance? Emerson Boozer, Johnny Sample, Ed Maynard. Good times in J.E.T.S land.
I have us at 3-6 wins and I’m with you on the over-under.
