It's curious how there is such optimism among the Seahawks fan base (myself included) and such skepticism among the sports media. I get the skepticism though. Totally new offensive scheme and coaching staff. New QB's. New WR's. New o-line pieces that may or may not make much of a difference in year 1. So, yeah, I get the 'show me' view. If I was more objective that's probably what I'd be saying. But Mike MacDonald has me convinced, so I'm just going to ride with him, for better or worse.
I understand it. We arguably downgraded at the most important position, and the new QB has a downgrade in weapons. But what I think the media is missing is how good our defense has the potential to be. If you can hold teams to 14-17 points, you should win a lot of games.
I do feel like the draft picks are setting us up for 2026 and beyond more than this season. We went for raw/high upside rather than safe/high floor in my opinion. I don't expect greatness out of the gate for any of our rookies, but I could see several becoming special after a year or two of getting heathy and spending time with pro coaching staffs.
I feel like the reason for the disparity is that we fans have heard JS and MM mention on multiple occasions how much more unified in purpose and vision the new staff is after seeing how last-minute almost thrown together the offensive staff was last year due to the time constraints. We know that Grubb and staff were let go because they were NOT unified in vision last year, and we know that KK, Benton, and their guys have vast NFL experience, unlike last year's group. I don't think any of us have any unrealistic expectations that it will come together overnight, but we can definitely see how it could very easily be just as good or slightly better than last year as a baseline. With the expected improvement in staff, leadership, and scheme; how the players execute it will determine how much better it is than last year.
Seems like maybe the pundits just see turnover as a negative, in general. Maybe they see any change as a net negative at first, without considering how the previous staff blended (or didn't) in. Maybe fans are excited that the trainwreck could be behind us and expect a net positive from the jump. It'll be interesting to see which way it turns out!
It’s hard to say who is elite because so many of the players are young and still developing. Going strictly off last year, I’d say Williams and Witherspoon. But others have elite potential—JSN and Hall, to name two. I’m still a season away from writing off Walker and Woolen as non-elite.
Basically, if season ticket holders are reselling more of their tickets than they are using, they may loose their ability to remain season ticket holders the following season. They want fans buying these tickets rather than individuals or small businesses looking to turn a profit. I'm not sure it's fair, but I think I like it.
I share season tix with my son. I get 2, he gets 2, we go together to 2, and usually sell 2. The sold tix help fund our package as we usually sell higher value tix to know Hawks fans. I hope the new policy doesn’t affect my future ticket purchases. It’s a 12 hour day for me to go, but I love the atmosphere. I agree that you see the game better on tv, so I record it to watch at least highlights later, but there is nothing like the feeling in a rocking football stadium.
I see all these replies of people that live in other states with Seahawk season tickets that make a trek to come to games, and it makes me feel bad, because I can see Lumen Field out of my living room window, but I prefer to watch football on TV. Always have. I just think it plays better on TV. Replays during dead game time, I can replay and pause, its not raining in my tv room, and parking is free.
But, I had Sonics season tickets for 15 years and went to about 75% of the games every year until 2008 (RIP). I have attended over 600 NBA games, and I have been to about 5 Seahawks games, and one was in San Diego. And I like the Seahawks as much as I ever liked the Sonics, and have been a Seahawks fan since the beginning. Hell, I moved to Seattle because of the Seahawks. And before anyone questions my fandom, know I have watched EVERY Seahawks game ever. And this time of year, I watch an old game on Sundays just to still have football.
I just prefer to watch football on tv. I like to see the matchups, replay formations, and not have anyone talking to me or blocking my view. I feel the NFL was made for television, unlike hockey or soccer, which are way better live. Just my opinion. I am sure there are thoughts.
Nothing wrong with that! I actually prefer TV to live, for the football. I like the live experience, though, for the atmosphere. With prices being what they are, attending isn't something I would do regularly, anyway.
Then buy my other ticket when I post it because family can’t come. They screwed fans by forcing us to use the monopoly Ticketmaster. I go to every home game. A 12-14 hour long day for me to drive and get to game then drive home. I kept my nosebleed tickets to help others but now family not going and even when I try to sell, they don’t get purchased. My sideline 45 yard line seat, I’m there and have been since Seahawks Stadium opened. I’ve lost massive amounts on my pair of 300 with giving them away or selling at half price often. But my single, other than work once in Hong Kong or one of my cancer treatment side effects, have not stopped me from making my trek. 1996 when Allen bought the team. Kingdome. Husky Stadium every home game in the rain and now Seahawks Stadium. I’m there. Just my pair of really good seats, often not used.
Quest is on my bucket list since I live so far away. Gonna do an Alaskan cruise after a game one day, and I'll know which ewsletter comment section to come to when I need tix!
I have been to 5 or 6 away games over the years, but I dream of being in that crowd one day. I am very glad they are trying to do something to keep the tix in the hands of home fans 1st. I like that they will allow you a chance to provide an explanation of your ticket sales if you get checked on.
I do really hope they “talk” to me first. I’ve kept those pair for express purpose of giving to family or friends or kids or car show raffles etc. I buy 3 every year, used to be 4 when Allen first took over $10 per seat per game or $40 for a game/$400 for season. Pay that for one game now. lol). I used to live in Juneau (when we got the season tickets) so while not doing a cruise, saw many a ship in port every summer. Definitely get on your list. Side note cruise season ends September (most lower 48 seem to not like 40 degree temps on their cruises!). But do it. The inside passage is amazing. And of course the Seahawks Stadium is awesome. Side note #2, go into Stadium from north side, back end of Hawks Nest. View coming in from that side is spectacular, especially for a night game.
But did you get to see Elway cry like a baby to the Official because of the deafening noise? May have lost that battle but I loved watching him whine. Made that destruction of SB of his team so much sweeter.
I admire your stalwart commitment to supporting the Seahawks. I hope you’re rewarded with a great season this year. I go to only one game a year and the preseason fan appreciation squad scrimmage at Lumen.
Ping me if you want to go to a game that counts. :-). Massive work schedule and living so far away prevents me from doing that event but I did go when before when it was in Cheney.
Just FYI to you and anyone interested. Unlike most, if they are fans, real fans, I don’t sell to make money. I usually just try to cover the expense. And for kids who maybe never been but love the Hawks, I’ve even given them away. I still remember my first game. Monday Night Football. Howard Cosell. Kingdome. The Jets. Dad got us tickets. Got us out of grade school. 200 level. Overhang of 300 over my head. Memory imprint still brings me mass joy. That and our losing team still gets the win because even though Jets were good, they couldn’t beat Zorn and Largent!!!!
Anthony Bradford has the same impressive athletic profile as the guys JS and the new offensive staff seems to be favoring. He has already proven capable of beating out every guard on the roster except Zabel and Cabeldue for playing time. Why not afford him the same expectation to improve with new coaches in a new scheme as Haynes or Laumea? Why is Haynes more likely to take a huge step forward than Bradford to take a modest step forward; because he was drafted one round earlier in a different draft class?
I hope Zabel is really good right away, but it makes sense to me that Bradford should be our most consistent IOL player next season. No one should be surprised or disappointed if he's the week one starter at RG.
I'd be quite happy to be wrong on Bradford. If he wins the RG spot and plays well, that'd be just fine with me. I just don't see it. Haynes I think was in the wrong scheme and poorly coached last year. If I was handicapping I'd go with Haynes or one of the other guards. But I'm often wrong. I don't really care who wins the battle if they play well.
I actually could see Olu as the most consistent but totally agree with all you wrote here. Just makes no sense to just jettison guys after one or two years. No logic. JS mentioned that we didn’t give Bradford chance to play his style last year, thus his high penalties. And you can’t have a good line when you do not have your solid, set, starting 5.
YES YES YES, regarding Will Fries. Imagine locking in to paying Fries 17.6 million a year for 5 years. For a Guard that had 5 very good games and then broke his leg. Is a 5 games stretch indicative of what he will do in the next 5 years? That $88 million over 5 years pays 75% of a Charles Cross extension for 5 years. You think it’s hard to find a high quality IOL, it’s several times as difficult to find a high quality tackle.

11-6 is the floor for this season.

Regarding ticket sales and home field advantage, I saw this report and link on Field Gulls: https://x.com/BryceCoutts_HZR/status/1921016636598780334

This is going to be an unpopular opinion.

Go on a Quest to Lumen Field, Shaymus !
... or a Time Quest back to the Kingdome.
Root Loud for Us.

I meant Lumen field now... 🤦♂️
And in all these years I’ve been to one regular season ‘Hawks game. In Denver, mid-80s. We lost, comfortably!
Still one more than me. Of course, I live 4000 miles away. I really need to make the trip sometime.
But did you get to see Elway cry like a baby to the Official because of the deafening noise? May have lost that battle but I loved watching him whine. Made that destruction of SB of his team so much sweeter.

Sure thing. If you know you have a ticket to sell, I would be willing to pay you a fair price so you don’t take a loss.

Jets haven’t been good since Namath. ;) Be well!
I agree with Anonymous!

I cheer for the laundry and don't care what name or number is on the jersey. Go 'Hawks!
I’d love it if Bradford emerged at RG. Give me a 330-pound behemoth every time, as long as he can play.

Using that Logic, we got a great deal on Darnold.
I think the OL will bet better. Probably middle of the league. We have new coaches and a #1 pick
I'd take middle of the pack.
Middle of the league would be a HUGE upgrade.
