I watched some tape on Emanuel Wilson and liked what I saw. He even had a little resemblance to Walker. He could be better than expected. He has some quick burst and can bounce it outside.

He has some good cuts and can break tackles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06LTtkrGrVI

Did you see the Lamar Jackson "restructure"? $49m signing bonus (!), $1.3m 2026 salary (!!), and $84.7m cap hit in 2027(!!!) And a bunch of void years. And now Hendrickson fits under the cap.

At some point soon, someone at the league is going to have to step in here -- who the hell is going to pay anyone $85m in any year, it's a mockery (same as the Crosby trade/no-trade). They'll just restructure him again, add more void years, and keep kicking the can down the road. What they call "cap management" is getting ridiculous.

Ray's avatar

There is a new TV contract coming up in a couple of years and the expectation is that NFL profits will sour, and the Salary Cap will jump enough to swallow all the cans that have been kicked forward.

Shaymus McFamous's avatar

If the league keeps allowing them to borrow against future probable profits, then eventually the cap is irrelevant. They would have to just absolve all the debt or increase the cap and outlaw the contracts.

PLEASE give Emanuel Wilson jersey #3!!!!!!!

I picture JS walking into the Seahawks facility, saying to himself, “I found Chris Carson in the 7th round. That’s right - I did that. So what if he fumbled a lot and couldn’t stay healthy.”

The real answer here is that there wasn’t much chance we were going to find our #1 RB in free agency. If we wanted to pay the UFA premium we would have kept K-9. One theory would be that JS thinks the difference between rookie-contract backs and 2nd-contract backs isn’t worth the price. Why not get a young, fast, motivated guy, and ride his 3-4 year sprint, and then get another? When you can find and develop a Holani as a UDFA, maybe a little higher draft pick can cut thru a hole just fine after AB trucks a guy?

He is getting better, there's no doubt about that.

If Love slides out of top ten we should trade up and go get him maybe...if the price isn't too steep. Two ones and a kicker of some sort oughta do it...

What if we could get another Demarcus Lawrence for Mafe’s spot? Locker room presence, committed to his craft, edge setter/run stopper, still disruptive in the passing game?

Cameron Jordan is still out there. Has missed two games in 15 yrs, one of which was for COVID.

Do we take him on a Lawrence-type contract if he’s still available on April 27th (after which he’d no longer cost a comp pick)

I still like Calais Campbell if he’s around. That guy never seems to run out of tread on those tires.

KHammarling's avatar

Does Calais have a ring? Would be a hell of way to end his career if not

Shaymus McFamous's avatar

In our 3-4 scheme, even though Campbell and Jordan are DEs by position listing, they would be playing inside. Neither would be considered an edge rusher to take Mafe's place. They are both bigger older guys who are not as good dropping off the line as they once were. We need an OLB/Edge with speed and versatility to get to the QB or drop into the flat.

I love the idea of both of those guys on this roster, but JS would still need to get the Mafe replacement

Chuck Turtleman's avatar

I'll admit that half the reason I want Calais isn't because of positional fit or that he'd command a small salary at this point; but rather because I've grown tired of watching him sack Seahawks QBs seemingly every year he's been in the league.

Typical Seahawk offseason. Staying out of the headlines, and just quietly going about their business. Rams and 9'ers seen as 'winning' the offseason, which they are welcome to do. We 'lost' the offseason last year and that worked out pretty good.

Given how JS is protecting his cap space, you gotta think they are either working on, or preparing for JSN and Spoon extensions. I think he should extend JSN prior to the Rams extending Puka, or it might cost them even more.

Bob Bryan's avatar

Also wondering about the extension plan, if any, for Hall and Charb. Imperfect players - is there a price now that’s worth it?

Chris H's avatar

Charbs they’ll likely wait on the knee, so that might have to wait. Hall they could work on.

Beezo's avatar

The agents of those respective players could be playing the same game on the backend.

Chris H's avatar

Indeed, and I'm sure they are.

Ahh, not the reason for coming here, but it's that something special that is Way Cool.

JS has us nicely positioned for 2026. Still some mid-level FA’s available, room to maneuver in the draft, opportunities to pick up cap casualties and/or some trades around training camp. Having said that, Rams lost nothing, added 2 excellent CB’s - Ram’s secondary weakness was critical in both losses to Hawks last year. We lost 3 quality starters and quality depth, so right now, advantage Rams. But JS has many more tricks up his sleeve so the chess match will continue till (and probably after) opening kickoff in September! How fun is all of this?!?!

Rusty's avatar

Always and forever. McVey’s whining about Hawks victories this season further reinforces it.

zezinhom400's avatar

It's funny to know that we've gotten into your head McVay, but it's double-funny when you confirm it!!

Beezo's avatar

They may have kept everyone, but there will be the perpetual unknown of when will Stafford start to decline.

Bill H's avatar

That is very true…with his back issues before the season last year, I convinced myself that he would not make it through the season…with aging athletes the decline often happens slowly, then suddenly….one of these days it will be suddenly for Stafford.

Danno's avatar

Dereke Young gone, he will not be a Seahawk next year.

zezinhom400's avatar

Say what?? When did that happen?

Danno's avatar

I heard about 30 minutes ago

JohnnyLondon's avatar

Good luck in Vegas, Dareke.

Danno's avatar

Indeed. He’ll likely get more time playing receiver in LV. So you can’t blame him.

Charley Filipek's avatar

Good Fortune ! Mr. Dereke Young, ball out 'n enjoy your game.

Danno's avatar

One thing still missing is a vet CB and an edge addition. Although it looks very promising for D-law coming back for one more year and we still have Chenna at edge.

rpmschevy's avatar

Sort of interesting is that just a couple years ago we were all looking at Ucheena being let go. May not be a double digit sack guy but makes a lot of good and solid plays.

Danno's avatar

Yes, he’s a little pricy for the production, but given the current proven depth at the edge position and the age of D-Law, He a solid body to have while we see what they do in the draft and whether the extend D Hall. Once these last few signed players contracts get revealed, we will have a better understanding of our cap space, but I think it will be mid $30s still available. The next free agent wave will come after cap casualties from other teams become available and the draft takes place.

Grant Alden's avatar

Agreed. As I typed on the day's earlier column, those two additions will free JS to truly pick BPA in the draft. I hope he finagles his way to a few more choices. There are a handful of guys at the end of the draft that I think would be fun, at least as special teamers.

At some point I'll probably expand on this, but...BPA means we can go after one of those special players that makes MM's eyes light up, one of the fast, versatile defensive guys who can present the same kind of issues Emmanwari does. They won't all hit, of course. Thieneman and McNiel-Warren won't last to 32, but Jake Golday or the Rodriguez kid (who also might not last to 32, after his testing) could be real interesting LB/Safety hybrids.

Danno's avatar

If they do trade back, it makes the most sense to trade back from 32. We moved from 54 to 35 last year and had to give them pick 82. I think we can get a pick in the 70s if we move back to the upper 40s. Say 48 78 and then we have 64 96 plus our 6th round pick
