Seahawks sold to Sun Microsystems founder
Vinod Khosla is the new majority owner of the Seattle Seahawks
A sale agreement has been reached between the Seattle Seahawks and billionaire Vinod Khosla for $9.6 billion. The sale price falls just below the U.S. record for a sports team of $10 billion, which is what the Los Angeles Lakers sold for in 2025.
Khosla, who will need to sell off his current stake in the San Francisco 49ers, is the new “Allen family” lead of your favorite football team.
Khosla, 71, co-founded Sun Microsystems in 1982, which at least keeps the Seahawks within the Silicon Valley tech family, for what that’s worth. He is worth an estimated $14 billion.
Beyond a Wikipedia scan, I couldn’t even begin to tell you what Sun Microsystems is, so if any of you have any insights into Khosla or this sale, please share it in the comments:
What’s next?
It’s hard to imagine Khosla would want to change anything about the Seahawks, at least right away. Coming off of a Super Bowl championship led by the Executive of the Year and one of the best under-40 head coaches in NFL history, Seattle wouldn’t appear to be in dire need of changes to anyone who thinks about this logically.
But nobody can predict to what degree Khosla and his investment group would like to be involved in the day-to-day operation of the Seahawks.
Is this simply an investment, like Paul Allen, and then Jody Allen, ran the Seahawks? Or is it an opportunity to play God, like Jerry Jones does with the Cowboys?
Only time will tell, but it could be anything under the Sun Microsystems.

Gives me a pit in my stomach, to be honest.
Lifelong connection to the Niners, even though financial connection started with a 3.1% stake three years ago. Attended Niner games for 25 years with his son. Son claims to be fascinated with all sports. Seems like son will be the most active owner and JS's report. The group is not as wealthy as I had hoped.
