Seahawks Stock Report: Who Goes Up, Who Goes Down after Preseason Opener?
Which Seahawks players went up, and who went down?
It’s easier to assess the change in a player’s value when you set a clear bar and that’s what Seaside Joe readers did when they helped me rank all 91 Seahawks players on the roster last month. We did that so we could firmly establish expectations, and then give those 91 players a chance to break them.
Hopefully by proving that they were better than we thought. Of course, when someone goes up, that means someone else goes down.
After three weeks of training camp and a preseason game, who’s stock on the Seattle Seahawks roster has changed the most? Based on Saturday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys and camp reports, I’ve re-assessed the biggest and most notable shifts in the rankings in August.
Players not on the roster when we did the rankings: CB Terrion Arnold, FB Brock Lampke, TE Nick Vannett, RB T.J. Harden, RB Justin Jones, CB Jordan Washington, LB Aaron Smith
Stock Up
WR/PR Rashad Rochelle
Previous: 91
Now: 75-80
Rochelle was the last player added to the roster before we ranked all 91 players, so it was really more of a “last in, last ranked” Seaside Joe company policy than an indictment of his resume. What could Rochelle do to announce himself to fans?
We found out on Saturday what he could do:
Rochelle’s shiftiness in a mess was exciting to witness in real time, but his speed didn't look “breakaway” after he got run down by Jonathan Mingo.
Invited to participate in Notre Dame’s pro day (he went to Indiana State), Rochelle ran a 4.48, which feels accurate given his punt return. It’s fast for a human, not fast for a returner who weighs 185 lbs.
But Rochelle has picked himself up off the bottom of the rankings and is now definitely in consideration for the practice squad. I’m giving him a bump of roughly 10-15 spots as there are clearly worse players on the roster.
WR Montorie Foster, Jr.
