Why I'll never root for Seahawks to get a higher draft pick
"Fire Pete Carroll" and "Lose to Win" are back on the agenda for some, but not for Seaside Joe: Seaside Joe 1748
I love good draft picks as much as anyone else. But I hate losing way more than I love good draft picks.
The Seattle Seahawks haven’t won a game in over a month and now have a losing 6-7 record, prompting some fans to have a classic team sports debate: Does a higher draft pick trump winning a game that likely wouldn’t result in a championship?
I’ve heard “Suck for Luck”, but now it’s just “Suck to Suck”. Which sucks.
There are 3 topics I want to address today, a Friday that has quickly transformed from a normal week into rumors of imminent change with regards to Pete Carroll, and desires by some fans to lose games rather than make a playoff push:
The benefits to winning “meaningless” games that nobody talks about when they debate “tanking” for a higher draft pick
Why the Seahawks DO have legitimate playoff hopes left this season
And the one thing that should be obvious these rumors about Pete Carroll’s potential departure from Seattle that everyone else has seemingly ignored or glossed over this week
Plus, what perturbs me the most in a results-based business: Would you feel exactly the same about the Seahawks— whether that is ending a person’s coaching career for the benefit of getting a hypothetical better prospect or searching for answers as to why the team is “broken”—if the Seahawks had just gotten 2% luckier and stood at 8-5 instead of 6-7?
There’s a LOT to cover today, let’s jump into it by talking about why it’s a bad idea to start rooting against the Seahawks over the next four games:
