This is the 1600th day in a row I've sent a Seahawks newsletter!
Seahawks throwbacks unveiled: Seaside Joe 1600
The Seahawks website starts with a “throwback” screen (and an opportunity to promote Microsoft) when you first get there today:
Then a sense memory that would be unpleasant it if weren’t perfect for the moment and Seahawks-related.
The website has gone full Geocities…
And finally, we have uniforms liftoff. (Which could be another way of saying “undressed”…like you get home from a hard day of work, “Uniform…liftoff!”)
I made a guess the other day that the players involved with the reveal would have to include Geno Smith, Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf, Bobby Wagner, and social media manager Quandre Diggs. I was five-for-six, having not considered Charles Cross as a candidate.
Oh look, there’s Kenneth Walker III also…
Which feels like a good time to remind people that when Walker was drafted and many people on Seahawks twitter expressed displeasure with using a second round pick on a running back that I said, “They’ll regret this because whether you agree with the pick or not, Walker is going to become a fan favorite and a face of the team.”
Now you’ve got all these tweets piled up from the past saying you hated that time Seattle drafted one of the most-liked players on the team.
Not seen yet: There’s a nice hidden Kingdome inside of the jersey…
And I’m sure many of you are curious about the helmet.
I didn’t post literally every picture in the reveal, so go through the website experience yourself to check it out. I’ve never been much of a uniform guy, let alone a helmet guy, so for those of you with keen interest who have opinions on today’s reveal, let Seaside Joe know in the comments:
Seahawks report to training camp in: 6 days
Seahawks play first preseason game in: 22 days
How to defend Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf
Oh, and I wanted to write something else today, but then this throwbacks news was dropped and decided to pivot everything into the 1600 day anniversary, so I’ll be back later today with ANOTHER Seaside Joe post on some recent Seahawks videos I’ve watched including an NFL safety talking about how he’d defend Lockett and Metcalf. So be sure you’re subscribed to not miss that one!
How much has changed in 1,600 days?
It’s a perfect fit for “throwback day”, as July 19, 2023 represents my 1,600 day anniversary since sending out the first Seaside Joe newsletter on March 3, 2019. Not a day has passed since then without me sending out at least one free newsletter about the Seahawks. Over the past two years, that number has often been two or three newsletters in a day.
Think of how much has changed since the last time a day passed since Seaside Joe didn’t send a Seahawks newsletter…Not only was Russell Wilson the quarterback, we were still 18 months away from “Let Russ Cook” being a phrase/movement; Frank Clark was on the Seahawks; the Chiefs hadn’t won a Super Bowl with Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson hadn’t won MVP; Seattle’s most recent game was a 24-22 wild card loss to the Cowboys; the team hadn’t traded for Jadeveon Clowney yet; Kyler Murray, Nick Bosa, Daniel Jones, Devin Bush, Noah Fant, DK Metcalf, Marquise Blair, and Cody Barton hadn’t been drafted yet…
Seaside Joe went out every day during a pandemic (and didn’t miss a day when I was bedridden with illness for two weeks); has gone out for five Fourth of Julys, four Christmases/Eves, four New Year’s Eves/Days, four Thanksgivings, and four Seaside Joe birthdays; I’ve gone from single to engaged since this started; I’ve gone from dogless to Clark since this started; I’ve gotten a new job since this started; and America even went from having a Hollywood to NOT having a Hollywood since this started.
The first Seaside Joe newsletter went out just before the premiere of movies like Captain Marvel and Us, they’ve released not one but two Shazam! movies that I didn’t see, as well as two more John Wick sequels that I’ve seen 25% of; and while it is difficult to get a bunch of different people to recognize any one musical moment these days, even in 2019, I am confident that everyone knows “Old Town Road”, which had yet to go viral at the start of Seaside Joe, and artists like Lizzo and Billie Eilish had yet to become famous.
Finally, TV shows Game of Thrones and The Big Bang Theory were still airing, whereas TV shows Succession, The Witcher, What We Do in the Shadows, and The Mandalorian had yet to begin.
For those of you who have been reading since Day 1, the five people who subscribed on Day 1,599, and everyone in between…THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. I almost quit countless times during the first 1,000 days but the one constant that kept me coming back was the fact that at least a few people kept reading, so I very literally wouldn’t be doing this without you. Now since cracking past 1,000, I haven’t thought about quitting once and I think the NFL would have to stop business before I will.
If you’re not a free subscriber, consider adding your email below and that will help us move up the rankings at Substack and get more visibility as “that Seahawks newsletter that doesn’t quit, damn what’s up with those Seahawks fans they’re crazy!!!” Even if you put us in your spam, I understand.
If you’re a free subscriber and you like it that way, no problem. But if you feel like you’ve just been waiting for the right moment to upgrade, it’s $5 per month or $55 per year for Regular Joes and you’ll get over 100 bonus articles in the next year. Click this button to upgrade or enter your email below. The math on 500 complete Seahawks articles for $55 breaks down conventiently into about ten cents per edition. That’s a way better value than Seattle Times, PI, The Athletic, or anyone’s Patreon account.
We are six days from camp—If you’re going to training camp, even for a day, please report back to us what you see! You can tell me directly or post it in the comments, we’d love to hear from you!
And sharing us with other Seahawks fans or shouting out “I saw (XYZ) on Seaside Joe” on other message boards, comment threads, websites is always appreciated. It’s not long until we can’t be ignored anymore.
Congratulations on 1600!
Did you know Kenneth and I have similar penis lengths?! Don't ask me how I know (I cut his hair in his sleep, that's why he thinks it doesn't grow...shhh). I don't write anywhere near the quantity or quality of Kenneth so now we know, scientifically, the penis length doesn't correlate with intelligence OR writing stamina!
Thanks Kendo!
