FYI for those making noise about OLine “bad” etc interesting post, this from FTN, fantasy evaluators, but Seattle OLine at #12 best percentage in “blown blocks/pressures”. Eagles best at 15.3% Hawks 19.1% with Texans worse at 25.4%. Found that interesting.
With respect to DK, and assuming his agent is going to ask for $30M+, I’d love to see JS make a move for Tee Higgins, who would likely be more in the $20M range. Then trade DK for a draft pick (assuming it would be a 3rd round) that we could use to address another need.
Schneider tends to take care of his "family" and is not all business n numbers. DK is a BAMF on the field, durable, and clean off the field. I expect he gets $30+M but hope the terms allow an out when JSN's big contract comes due.
"Going 0-2 wouldn’t end their season, but it would signal to everyone that Seattle isn’t ready to compete with even the second tier NFC teams."
Hmmm, maybe. If they lose big yes. If they lose a highly competitive game, then they are ready to compete, and are by definition 'competing' with those teams. I think they're ready to compete, I'm just not sure they are ready to win. Please excuse the semantic argument. :)
For those saying that Arizona is 'a bad football team' and therefore Seattle's victories over them don't count for as much, remember this. They were 6-4 prior to our first meeting and had won 4 straight games. They had almost beaten the Bills in week one, and had wins over the Rams and 9'ers. Nobody was saying they sucked then. Then we handle them twice, but in between they almost beat a 2 loss team in Minnesota. So, they don't suck. They aren't a juggernaut, but they don't suck. I have 'yeah, but' arguments. Wins are hard in the NFL, enjoy every one of them.
I'm delighted our 2 4th round picks are playing so well. The 3rd round pick of Haynes was widely applauded, but our 2 4th round picks were largely panned, and look how things have turned out. Haynes now looks over drafted, and we have 4th rounders making huge contributions. They don't look so over-drafted anymore.
Watching Oakland come out of the Wild Card berth and win a Super Bowl is still a vivid memory among myself and my friends. That Team of big men are friends for life, as 20 years later, the NFL had an entire SB afternoon show with Madden and 'his guys' sitting around a table joking and talking about Football. Funny as hell. It takes decades to develop a huge fan base, the value of which we are seeing in Detroit right now. When the Raiders moved to LA, the Niners got a huge boost. The stadium filled with rabid fans and Frisco began some serious ass kicking with Bill Walsh and Joe Montana. We are feeling/seeing this here, now. Most Cool. It should be noted that the Allen Family grew up in the Frisco/Bay Area/Northern California area in those days.
I remember that Raiders run. That was back in the day when we had 3 over-the-air TV channels (I grew up in rural Nova Scotia) so saw no NFL football until playoff time. I became a Seahawk fan when they made their playoff run in 1983. By then, we had cable TV and could actually see regular season games.
You can always tell a Scotsman- just not much. :) My Mom's side settled Edmonton in the mid 1800's. Started a Hudson's Bay trading post just outside Fort Edmonton. Wild ride. My Cousin married a New Brunswick Lass. I'd love to visit both.
According to what I've heard is the O-line coach was drawing O-line scheme changes in the dirt on the sidelines in the first quarter. Those changes supposedly is what really opened things up for Charbs- Also a couple of ex players now radio pundits say the schemes they used really wouldn't suit K-9 but do Charbs. Now that I don't know but using both to me and see who has the hot hand makes allot of sense. I hate that I basically have to root for the niners, But that would be a great boost for Seattle if they beat the Rams Thursday night. The niners have a tough road, the Rams easier, but if they lose to the niners and we split with the Pack and the Vikings the Hawks should be OK. GO HAWKS!
I don't think I can watch that game ... haha. I'll take a look at the score when it is over.
Mike Dugar said K9 sitting on the bench might be the best thing that could happen to him. I think/hope so. Hopefully he comes back with a new vision of how to run and use blocks. I see an even better K9 finishing out the year when he gets back. And also, never a bad thing to give your RB a week or two off late in the season.
I’d prefer to give K9 more touches, but would love to see more 2 back sets. Both are capable runners and receivers so that would seem to maximize opposing defense’s confusion. I know we run the occasional jet sweep with a WR to get a rush from a pass formation, but none of our WR are as good at rushing as either of our 2 main RB are at receiving. I also recall a play that Bobo scored on that looks like a sweep, but actually cuts to the interior line after the defense starts flowing towards the sweep. Not sure Grubb has that play in his book.
I love a strong run up the middle, but it requires great blocking, unless you trick the defense in some way.
I think that was a designed Sweep that Bobo suddenly saw a huge hole open up and he took it. Deviating from the design will get you in the Dog House with coaches, which might be why we don't see him getting the ball much?
Maybe, but I know Shanahan has a similar play and KC uses a shovel pass up the middle for the same effect.
I didn’t play much organized football so may not know what I’m talking about, but a bruising run seems to dominate an opponent more than a long pass. The run often takes a coordinated mauling that affects the whole defense whereas a long pass frequently involves one receiver just beating one defender. I know that’s oversimplified as QB needs time provided by good pass protection, but just flat out pushing the whole other team around has to affect the psyche on both sides. Not that I’m against our team having quick strike capability, which we do, but I’d love to see some old school smash mouth football.
50/50? Sure. But it's situational and I'm not the guy to make that call.
I think the Seahawks' offense will do OK against the Packers, but "OK" might not be good enough. Our D will hold the Pack to less than 24 points, so it's all about the offense. I'm picking the Seahawks in my Pig-Skin Pickums contest, but I might be just a homer.
At some point we'll know our defense will contribute points, like turnovers on their 20 yard line, if not a pick 6. Not long ago, I saw that as an easy 3 points, but now I'm counting up.
All the old pro's have commented on the positive effects that Sataoa's thunderous victory holler has on the Team. Good for us/bad for them. If it didn't work, the Maori's would have never used it. Apparently it is heard rarely anymore. MM commented on how nice it is to have the same 5 guys on the OLine. Roberts and Schlereth both observed what was initially needed was one set scheme that the guys learn to execute really well and Grubb can expand a dozen plays from that one set, not to mention masking intent. We saw them do this in the Card's game, confusing their defense for the first time this year. Let's realize that having 320 pounds of trained muscle coming at you full speed, roaring like Banshee, is kinda unnerving. And painful. My bet is it goes contagious very fast. I smell Super Bowl. Let K9 fully recover. The longer we keep his skills with this new line off films, the better. This current team has a ton of latent Blue Chip skills, as we are seeing Big Cat Leo finding. My bet is MacD came here knowing this. Sometimes, all it takes is the power of Belief. He did it with the Ravens; he's doing it here. It's a Jocko Willink thing.
YEA, love the scream of winning and excitement ,it is contagious. Roberts and Schlereth are great to listen to seeing how they actually know what they're talking about.
After beating a bad Cardinal team, if they beat the Packers the Hawks are legit.
Split the plays 50/ 50 between Walker and Charbs and use some 2 back sets to give the opponents DC one more thing to prepare for. It never hurts to put a new problem on the opponents plate!
Both our latest road games had us facing professional Ballers playing with intense furious passions. At Home. Overcoming that is no joke. We have seen the lousiest teams come out and spoil all the ambitions of dominating teams. Again, we now face a team with 10 days+ rest for the third time since Week 9. We can do the Difficult. The Impossible simply takes a bit longer.
I have been watching a lot of Detroit this season and the Gibbs/Montgomery duo is the best RB tandem in the NFL but could K9/Charbs challenge for the title? Charbs could be the same kind of downhill mauler that Montgomery is for the Lions with K9 being the Gibbs comp with his speed and ankle-breaking ability.
That's what I see, too, Doug. Unlike the Lions, we are 4-deep in proven bruising RBs. KMac made a good showing on Sunday, with Holani getting some early touches. I hope to hear the Guys adopting Sataoa's thunder, making themselves fearsome. Again, we are seeing our Bench Guys getting experience.
Think this is a broken record game... Can you stop the run? If the answer is yes ... I like our chances.
From an odds perspective, this game is equivalent to last week (3-point underdogs). And the Hawks were 6 point or so underdogs when they beat the Niners on the road.
GB is a good team, but Jordan Love? .... eh... we will see. Excited for this one.
I really like our matchup with Minny though. Minny loves to blitz and there are few better than dealing with blitzes than Geno Smith. Will be interesting to see if they break their norms or if they try him. I hope they try him because he will have a huge day if they do (and DK), IMO.

If you’re ever in the area, just let me know.
Seriously, I'm making a note of this, Chris. The Eastern Coast of Canada is one of the few places I would very much like to experience.

Exactly.
This is year 3 of the rebuild. There is no reason to wait around. Time to attack and get after it.
I always get a little chuckle when people say wait til next year. Why?
John Schneider was asked in the offseason if this team can win a Super Bowl with the talent they have, he said "I do"
JS is as smart as they come. No reason to wait, head down, keep stacking.
YEA, love the scream of winning and excitement ,it is contagious. Roberts and Schlereth are great to listen to seeing how they actually know what they're talking about.
You're a very optimistic person, and I hope you're right.

Sunday Night showdown in Seattle.
Going to be a great one.

Go Hawks
If DK is healthy. He doesn't look quite right at the moment. Hopefully he heals up and is full-go against both GB and Minny.
