I agree with the majority here. Keep the high draft choices. If a bargain like Diggs is available then consider it, but don’t give up premium draft capital for high priced rental players.

-The draft is a crap shoot with only 31% of first round picks offered a second contract by the team that drafted them. First round picks comprise 50% of the All Pros so you have about a 15% chance of drafting a true impact player with a first round pick. If you can get Roquan Smith or DaRon Payne and sign them to an extension that isn't stupid money, it's a good move. My rules for trading a first round pick are 1) must have all-pro potential, 2) no rentals, 3) no senior citizens, 4) no walking medical cases, 5) they have to fit the scheme, and 6) they're personality should fit. Of course, it always depends on the ask.

-Question: Let's take the inside linebacker position. Your team is in contention. Would your rather field 1) an all-pro and a league average vet, 2) two above average vets, or 3) an all-pro and a day-2 rookie?

I'm definitely in the preserve draft capital camp. Would be really unhappy with a trade unless it's for another player or a day three pick for a ton of value. The Rams and 49ers have mortgaged their futures. Let's teach them a real lesson in how to build a team.

Midseason trades got us Diggs and Duane Brown. So there’s a chance something gets done.

Parallax's avatar

That's true. When we traded for Brown, we were in "win now" mode and our franchise QB was getting destroyed, so it made sense even thought it cost quite a bit. A second and third if I remember. Diggs was a bargain; I think he cost us a fifth.

Given where we are now, I'd prefer to see us use our draft capital wisely. I'm not advocating selling off our best pieces. Just husbanding what we have. If we do make a move to acquire someone, it should be a bargain (like Diggs). Not a dear price (or even a fair price) like Brown. If someone wanted to pay us a dear price for a guy we might be able to live without, I'd be down with that.

Obviously I'm not the guy making the decisions. I'm just one of countless fans, each with an opinion. So what I'm saying is if Schneider did something I considered stupid, I would not be happy. It seems that there are a number of fans who feel very similarly. Hopefully Pete and John are thinking along similar lines.

Basketball coach Larry Brown said that there was one purpose for a trade: Improve your team. Focus on that, not what the other guy is doing. Otherwise, you’ll wind up being too clever by half (i.e., the Schneider Curse) and give up too much for too little.

Stay the course, Bradley Chubb would be awesome but he is a free agent next year. Any contract would be top 5 edge meaning very expensive for the oft injured bruiser. I think Dallas will be good support for KWIII, because our offensive line is better and can block well enough for Dallas.

Because both the Niners and Rams have gone for the win now, which they should" Seattle is in a position to build a long lasting team.you do need to draft well, and when not picking 25 or worse P/J can get it done

Couldn't agree more. Save those draft picks and see how our needs shake out during the off season. You don't pay off debt just to free yourself up to go back into debt again. Build through the draft with young, cheap hidden gems. I could see some draft day maneuvering taking place but the last time we had two 1st round picks we ended up with Okung and ETIII and that seemed to work out ok.

No on Chubb. No question he is talented. However, once you make the trade, you also have to pay the man. That is going to be a lot of cap space. One of the best things the Seahawks going for them is their draft capital. That gives a lot of flexibility. You make that trade, the flexibility is gone. I would rather save the picks and go after a free agent during the offseason instead.

Seconded. If Chubb weren't so often injured, then maybe a case could be made. But for this team, it's not a good fit.

Keep the picks. Another draft like the last one and Seattle will be Super Bowl calibre team.

Keep our draft picks... PLEASE! The Hawks have set themselves up for something very special. Especially when considering the picks that the Ram and 49ers have. Gonna be sooo exciting!! Thanks for all the info.

I GUARANTEE it that the Hawks tried their darnedest to persuade the Broncos to include Bradley Chubb when Denver was desperate for their franchise QB - obviously, they would not part ways with their star pass-rusher and built a big enough stock-pile for JS/PC to go for it.

I Seriously doubt they will do so now. Chubb will remain in orange. There could be other targets but really, I think Pete is Confident with his team and we all know how much Schneider Loves draft capital. No mid-season trades unless we steal a player for the Steeler's 5th rounder or package one of our extra CBs.

Keep our draft picks. We could do a player for player swap with CB Jones to some desperate team outside our division, but no thanks on spending draft capital on expensive players.

Some draft analysts say this is a pretty terrible year for everything but QB's for the first round. And that only Wil Anderson will be worth what he is paid. Do you see lots of first round talent this year? I haven't heard about guys like Sauce or the entire Georgia defensive front 7 that were worth high first round picks last year. Are you seeing good value coming in the top of the first round?

That’s the Staton Angst. But it’s too soon to make judgements like that because we don’t know yet who will emerge.

the beauty of the draft analysis for our Seahawks is they do not necessarily subscribe to the media's collective analysis. The pundits had numerous QBs going Before Seattle's #9 pick. None of the 'experts' had anything like an accurate prediction. Chances are, we should heed the lesson and ignore them this year...Like you, I am for Not trading away any picks.

The 2022 draft seems to have 4-5 really good QB's, Will Anderson, and then there is a big fall off. At the next level are a lot of players that Seattle doesn't need (TE's, RB's, and interior linemen). I'd like to see the 'Hawks trade for Bradley Chubb, then do whatever they have to do to get Anderson. Then it would be a WR early in the second round, and O&D linemen after that. Go Jags!!

We KNOW John Schneider tried to get Bradley Chubb in the March 8th Russell Wilson trade The Broncos would have likely been able to keep Noah Fant, Shelby Harris plus one each of their 1st and a 2nd round picks IF the Hawks got their way and received Chubb in the Wilson trade. The man in orange will continue to set the edge in Denver, regardless of how attractive any offers they receive from teams in need.

For a guy who has been often injured and close to a big pay day? I say no way. Not if it had meant giving up a first rounder.

It is still really early to say who the top picks might be in the 23 draft. Even the QBs... look at the injuries last week.

It's just not what the Seahawks do. I don't think they block.

They have players inn their board they want regardless of other teams.

How often do you hear, 'we wanted to draft him'?

Lock and Fant both come to mind.

Pete's a funny guy. He's happy for guys to get they opportunity. He's probably not even bummed McCaferty went to SF. He's just that way.
