I have not read all the comments so I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this. But one of my immediate thoughts to the trade was that this could also be a move to help the running game. Seattle has struggled to run the ball consistently partly due to the crazy amount of stacked boxes they have been facing. I think opposing teams will think twice about stacking the box so often when they have to account for the likes of JSN, Horton, and now Shaheed.

The addition of Shaheed gives our hit man, 'Sammy Dime Thrower', yet another recieving weapon that includes 2 RB's and TE's with soft hands and hard hits after the catch. Did I forget 'Catch and Crush Outzs'? With an improved O-line keeping Sam clean and a bit of run game tweak our Offense is poised to match our Defense in the top 5 category. So sayeth the Bob.

"So sayeth the Bob". I like it. All my family grew up using their middle names because first names were considered 'to Formal'. My middle name was Robert and I went by Bob until I made Captain on the Fire Dept. and had to use my first name on re[orts. So sayeth the Bob.

I like Shaheed. He wears speed and stardom well. I just hope he doesn’t take targets and yards away from JSN. JSN could make some history this year.

The weakness of the pre-Shaheed group of WRs is that, JSN excepted, is that none of them can get open independent of scheme. From what I'm hearing, Shaheed addresses this because he is a solid route-runner with great speed.

Plus, let's face it: The Hawks aren't getting much out of Cooper Kupp. It's fine that he can block and it's all well-and-good that he's a great guy. Neither of which mitigate the fact that thirteen of his 24 receptions have come in two games and that safeties don't have to respect him as a deep threat. It's not hard to envision a scenario where Shaheed is the #2 WR and Kupp drops behind Horton to #4.

Ray's avatar

I know it's not exactly true, but it's almost as though Kupp were competing with the TE's for reps.

Shaymus McFamous's avatar

Maybe not for reps, but competing for targets for sure.

I think that if you are going to trade for a receiver, getting someone who just played in Kubiak's offense last year is about as good as you can get. I'm not bothered by it at all. If a couple back benchers lose some reps because we got another starter, sounds good to me. Only improves the team.

Joe: Can you do a statistical comparison of Rashid Shaheed and Jakobi Meyers? The trade value was about the same. Our guy is younger but shorter, other than that, I don't know much about either of them. Thanks

EDIT: Also, did any of the Edge Rushers get traded?

DVOA chart shows Seahawks and Rams even/tied.

Yup, the top two teams...dead even.

I wish he was bigger and stronger, and tough, but he is fast and can catch the ball(?). We have a team of great hands receivers, I hope that hasn't changed.

This will take reps from Horton and Young and White. Both Young and White run with power. It's kind of hard to tell Young (83) and White (82) apart from each other they have the same type of body and weight distribution, and they've both demonstrated improved skills in the last two years. In the last game, White shook off a would be tackler and then leisurely strolled into the end zone for a TD.

I like the way they are trying to make both sides of the ball aggressive ballers who invite physicality, and because we have plenty of receivers who are not getting as many reps as I would like to begin with.

I'm just not sure this was a good use of draft resources, but John is smarter than me, and so I will bow to his judgement.

I believe that I read, on a newsfeed on Google, that he was 6'3". Is that wrong information?

Shaymus McFamous's avatar

Shaheed is listed at 6' 0", 180

Issac B's avatar

I'm not worried at all about a proven starter taking reps from practice squad guys. It improves the team.

IdahoFred's avatar

He catches about 64% of his targets. JSN is at 70%.

Stephen LeGrand's avatar

It's a little Percy Harvin-esque.

Chris H's avatar

Without the migraines......and the headaches :)

Looks like Shaheed could play 18 games this year with no bye, same as Leo did during his trade year.

IdahoFred's avatar

One thing about this trade, it will take the pressure off our hurt receivers to come back too soon. They have more time to get healthy and get us through the playoffs.

Eduardo's avatar

Great pick up. On the compensation side, not a compensatory pick expert, but this might only cost the Hawks either the 4th or the 5th rounder if Shaheed leaves, right? If a half season rental, he should get decent money in free agency this offseason which should return a 4th or 5th depending on his contract compensation. This years draft class isn't anything to write home about either.

Charlie Gage's avatar

He sure made Rattler look good. I'm liking this trade. Go 'Hawks!!!

Danno's avatar

Indeed! Go Hawks!!

Good Share, Danno. There's Dawg in this player. Can't Touch This !

Danno's avatar

Indeed Bobby Brown ;)

Don Ellis's avatar

Thanks for the reel, Danno. After giving it a watch, I think Shaheed is going to enjoy working with a more precise quarterback.

Danno's avatar

I think he has 499 yards this year already? I’m trusting someone else here. That would give him another 500 if he keeps up that pace.

Chris H's avatar

499 on a bad team with a mediocre (at best) QB. What could he do with one of the best QB's in the league?

Danno's avatar

I’m hoping he’s a 1000 yard receiver for us!

IdahoFred's avatar

To go with our 2000 yard receiver.

Scott M's avatar

I like that instead of getting a patch, we go for an upgrade with Young out...

Grant's avatar

I have to think that MM/KK feel like Horton isn't ready to play a larger role yet and Kupp isn't giving them everything they wanted from a #2 WR. At that price, I'm assuming that plan A is to resign him at the end of the season. Perhaps this is a move that allows JSN to take more snaps from the slot and we see less Kupp on passing downs. The price seems steep for just adding depth to the roster, so I feel like this is a reflection of the staff not being entirely satisfied with our current starting WR options.

Chris H's avatar

Maybe. They may also just like the player, and with Kupp injured, don't want to put too much pressure on Horton. Let him develop at his own speed. I assume he's an excellent locker room guy as well, as MacDonald won't let anyone near the building that isn't.
