SEA MORE COMMENTS:

- The first thing that comes to mind with the 2,000 milestone is Conan O'Brien's old bit "In the year 2,000...In the year 2,000..." Whereas the first 1,000 felt like a very long time, it feels like the last 1,000 days have gone by in an absolute snap.

- I have no intentions to discredit Michael Barrett's potential, although I think the resume and the context of his journey to Seattle being a long-time college player and a seventh round pick sort of does that on its own. Macdonald's statements after practice today on Barrett sounded more like "Yeah, we made a team decision and I hope he can do enough to make the team some day." I would really emphasize the part about Barrett not being a starter for Macdonald in 2021, they might not even have that close of a relationship. He was around those players for less than a year and there were a lot of guys to get to know, so anyone who wasn't starting didn't get much face time with Macdonald, right?

Essentially, if Barrett makes the roster, that's like doomsday for all the linebackers who didn't make it.

Getting to know Mr. Barrett:

As a follower of MICH football I really enjoyed watching him play. Notice how many of his highlights are on special teams as a returner… sure tackler and good blitzer. I am not saying he will make the 53 but he is a player familiar with MM’s scheme and would “fit in” with what he wants to do.

Yessirree. There's even a spot with him at college running back. (an early butt-push 1st down?) I suspect JS has something to do with this pick, as he's a ringer for Levi Bell from last year. I'm thinking right now, only JS believes determined muscle-bound men under 6 ft have a place in the NFL. He's certainly got the 'versatility' Coach Mack is looking for: kick returns, RB, linebacker and even QB... Maybe Special Teams and certainly practise squad. Hang in there, Barrett.

I have a hunch actually MM sees him as another hybrid LB/Safety type who can cover, blitz, and tackle. In the meantime, Jay Harbough is very familiar with him as a special teams contributor and there is where he will likely start out.

2,000 posts is impressive, no matter how much you downplay it! What is more impressive is the daily discipline to do it. I admire anyone that does something every day. While I don't think I could sustain the writing every day, you're an inspiration to me to get something out at least once a week. Onwards!

Maybe this is a move for M. Jackson's career more than one for the Hawks. And something is better than nothing. I agree that Michael Barrett was someone the Panthers viewed as not making their 53, but that doesn't mean he is never going to develop into a useful player.

This might put M. Jackson on a team that has more use for him than we do. So far as I can tell, Jackson has given his best and made improvements in his game. He performed above expectations for one year as a starter. Thanks for the memories, Michael.

I'm all for doing right by a guy, but I don't want to be in the business of making other teams better. Especially ones in the NFC.

I think a team needs to balance the value and goodwill of helping players advance their careers versus taking a hard nosed attitude without regards to players' careers is heavily weighted in favor of doing right by the players. We're talking about players fighting just to make a 53 man team. If that player develops into a star, he remains in the good graces of the Hawks and would consider coming back, for slightly less even, because he knows the Hawks care about their players. On the other hand, it is much more likely the guy is even in the league in three years, and will never cross our path, and even if he did, chances are he would be just a guy. But the whole team knows the situation with Jackson, and he might be a starter on another team. It sends a message that pays dividends forever.

I agree completely! This wouldn’t be the first time the Seahawks have made a similar move with a longer view in mind.

We've seen a couple players return for 1 day so they could retire as a Hawk. No doubt there are big advantages, but I have no idea what that might be.

Thanks, y'all. You reminded me of one of the things I am proud of my team for. I wouldn't be a die hard fan of an organization that treated it's players like shit, and I am particularly proud of the culture we have. Sometimes I like to explore my own thoughts and feelings by posing questions or open-ended statements to get other opinions, and this time y'all pointed me back to one aspect of why 12s are who we are.

That's my take too, Stephen. JS will most certainly do everything he can to do right by the guy, to include bringing him in on any final selections. He's a Hawk who played second fiddle without a complaint.

Commenting just to see my name. Lol

After DJ James' super-rough preseason outing, I would be surprised if hebwas one of the two. I AM suprised that Mike Jackson was traded rather than one of those names left. Maybe I am just blinded by the PFF grades (not) from last year, or by how famous his name is, and I haven't considered how cheap those other guys are. I will defer to MikeMac, his skills, expertise, and daily evaluations, though.

I am also not any less nervous about our LB corps, now. If this lingers on into the regular season, don't we have to ask WTH happened when we were giving physicals to potential FA additions that we planned on having START for us? It appears to have happened twice... our doctors or decision makers are getting way too close to being below the Mendoza line on this one, 0-2 is not pretty. Who is holding whom accountable for this, if it happens?!? Also exacerbating my nervosa and irritation are the reports from other camps of LBs drafted late who are impressing. I would give my right arm (my good one) for an honestly objective report from camp on one of our LBs that was not lukewarm, at best.

I didn't understand why we drafted cornerbacks vs linebackers later in the draft when one was a position of plenty and one of need. Coming back to bite them.

Expand full comment
Stephen Pitell's avatar

Maybe because we have so many great safeties who can play LB if needs be, as MM expects everyone to play all positions even remotely close to their positions.

Edit: Seriously, we could play 3 or 4 safeties at the same time. One of them said they were on the coach to put them all in. Play a 4-0-7

Good point. This rings especially true since JS said he drafts BPA early, then focuses more on need later in drafts, all while looking for the right people.

I firmly believe that we will see the Hawks pick up at least 2 LBs. and a QB3 to replace Walker after cuts are made. Every year good players are available! Thinking one of the Broncos QBs .

2,000...Wow. I don't know who put that chip (boulder) on your shoulder, but I am glad they did. I certainly enjoy reaping the benefits of your hard work, thank you Kenneth. I like that Barrett is smaller and more athletic, he is almost built like a stocky safety. Barrett also looks like he could be a good special teams pick up. I'm hoping he can help provide some better coverage in pass situations. We seem to look a little off with LB's in pass coverage. Maybe LB starters will look better than backups?? I was really pulling for DJ James but he looks lost and overwhelmed to me. Ty O looks like he might actually make the squad. Jackson looked older and slower than in recent years, glad we got something for him, wish him well - he was mostly good during his time here.

2,000? Is that all.

Fun 2000 fact - the highest number expressible using only two unmodified characters in Roman numerals (MM). This is also the Seahawks coach’s initials - go figure.

And this (apparently) - The 2000 Angel Number signifies harmony, balance, and the beginning of a spiritual journey that calls for your trust in the Universe's plan. It suggests that your inner wisdom and intuition are strong guides, inviting you to maintain faith in the unseen path that is unfolding before you.

SJ, your inner wisdom and intuition have been strong guides for you and have lead you to create such a magnificent thing. Maybe reaching 2000 is the start of even bigger and better things to come (if Angel Numbers are an actual thing).

Either way (& seriously) congratulations old boy!
